F1 2010

You can change wing angle, engine power on the fly, also something to do with tires which I presume is choosing which ones you will put on on your next pit stop.

So no brake bias then? Thats a bit disappointing. Especially with no refuelling thats a pretty big miss. Do the engine and wing angle make a difference to anything or are they there just for show? Like for example, does reducing the revs extend the life of the engine, or decrease fuel consumption for example?

I've started expermenting with the aerodynamics and camber now. Hell of a difference increasing the downforce for tighter/twistier tracks.

Also, raced Valencia online last night for the first time. How awesome is that track?

You can adjust the front wing and dial your engine up and down using the D-Pad as you drive. This will be key to getting the most out of your car or saving your engine for a later day

Took from an interview, yeah, shame you can't change brake bias as f1 drivers do that a lot.

I'm buying it now as it's the release day of the Polish version, turns out I can grab it for around £30 near my place and I got some money lately so I'm on it. If I get bored I will probably be able to re-sell it for £20-£25 in a month or two because F1 is currently big here.

There's no way, no matter how good you are, that Torro Rossos and Lotuses should be finishing on the podium.

Nope, and that's my gripe. The Race lap times for the drivers appear to be wrong. I lost count how many times I was told Alonso was five seconds ahead just as I overtook him on a corner.

Also one of my lap times was posted as 1.38 and there's no chance in hell I got anywhere near that!

I'd like to see these games implement component wear. I'm talking reduced brake performance, chassis deformation 'GT4 had this :D', engine wear that kind of stuff.

I'd like them to simulate the fact that you can't run at 100%, 100% of the time. Short shifting to save fuel and slow down engine wear. Engine braking to reduce brake wear. I know this is a bit more hardcore sim, but it should be in games like this with the ability to turn on and off like tyre wear.

These are all things that should be in, yes. I'm pretty miffed that you can shift right down through the gears at 150mph and not blow the engine!

some of you must be really good, im in a lotus and there is no way in hell i could catch the top teams never mind getting on the podium

Remember it's all about grip and how that grip is used. You can (contrary to popular belief) brake and turn, or turn and power and the same time, but you are then splitting grip between the two, which it's better why it's one at a time. It sounds silly (and it is tricky to learn), but I've done my braking and 9 times out of 10 am back on the power even before I've turned in.

Awesome mate, full respect that is skills no doubt. Yeah you should definitely get online, you would be challenging the best with your times.

I play it the same way but am finishing pretty much where lotus should.

I qualified 17 in Aus and was well chuffed.

I was in 13 going into the pits which thought was pretty good, unfortunately I spun and lost a few places just before and then when I came out was 23!

Trulli was behind me though so at least I beat my team mate.

I'm nowhere near as good as some of the times posted online. What I am though is consistent, and good at taking the cars at corners. It's a bit of a false skill for me though, since I can't feel the back of the car the skill comes in 'guessing' if you've taken a corner slightly wrong and only one rear wheel is hitting a curb at the right angle or not.

I am quick at exits though, believe it or not racing cars round a track in real life has definitely improved my video game playing drastically! (Especially the likes of Forza).

Good for you mate! You'll make a hell of a lot of difference to your lap times when you get it right. Even though the FF is shit, I still run with oversteer rather than the normal understeer even in the dry. I just prefer the quicker direction change, although it does require a very steady right foot!

If I remember (and anyone is interested), later today I'll post a brief description of how I race Bahrain including markers and gears I use. Unless anyone has come across such info online?

how do you see what the R&D objective is? Starting Melbourne practice and I'm told i've to try to beat a target time, but I've no idea what the target time is.

Click on Engineer during practice. Just before and then accept it :D

As iSparky said some of you people must be really really good. With a Torro Rossi I've just won one race (on easy level) and come 3rd in the last one after a great couple of sessions but other than that it's been hard. And I'm not even playing on the legendary level.

How are people enjoying this on PS3? I have a 20 quid Argos voucher, considering putting that towards purchasing this.

I think it's excellent, both online and offline.

People cite loads of issues but the only one I've noticed is the pitting issue which means I just set my own pitt lap away from the default. I'm not playing it on legendary with all the assists off but for my intermediate level of driving I'm not experiencing any other problems.

Someone go around Suzuka or Fuji, whatever it is this year, and post your best lap time. I want to try an experiment.

Will do when I go on in an hour or so but I must warn you I suck at those kind of tracks

I just got the game...

Playing an F1 game after 10 years....Turned all assists off...feck ME...

Im spinning and all over the place, I cant complete 1 sector in practice at Barhain, let alone 1 lap?!LOL.....

Really frustrating...Just spinning and sliding all over the place....Will have to spend a while just being able to drive a lap

Play with break assists on then :D

is it possible to out break people with the brakes on?

i am onto monaco, have done P1 and i got 13th fastest on the options, unforgiving circuit but i am looking forward to racing

I felt a little bit like that, well not sliding all over the place. Got it down to 2:00 in a Lotus, also in the settings make sure you only have 3 laps worth of fuel - the car is atleast a second faster per lap of fuel that is lost.

okay weaste i am probably not as good as racing games as yourself and some others but the best i managed was a 1.33/1.34

How do you set the fuel?
Lol, but then where's the fun then in?!
Well if you want a challenge keep the breaks on but move it up to legendary level ;)

Yeah you can still outbreak people but it's obviously not that easy. I'm not too comfortable with breaks yet with the keyboard. Not too easy.

How do you set the fuel?

When you're about to go out, the monitor move to the right there is a setting for engine - there you could set it to lower laps of fuel and there are other settings you can tweak such as suspension, tweak your wing etc. But other than changing your fail, makesure you know what you're doing for the other stuff you u think of tweaking them or the car will be so unbalanced - so search on some forums etc.

This is my favourite aspect of this game though, because its refreshing to have a driving system that is challenging at first, but comes to you the more you practice, and isn't flawed in any great way

Second race of the season with Virgin and qualified 7th. Worked my way up to within 2 tenths of a second of Hamilton in 3rd on the last lap only to hit the back of him on the 3rd last corner and give myself a 10 second penalty which dropped me down to 8th. I've never played an f1 game before but I'm loving it. I'll higher the difficulty when I get the hang of it.

oh I agree 100%!

I wouldn't have it any other way..

I absolutely struggle to complete a sector right now, but I love how tough it is!

The driving model itself is only really that flawed if you use a wheel. Since it's a different game with a pad (or keys ), the fact that you can't feel the back of the car properly doesn't affect you anywhere near as much.
