F1 2010

The difference with Polyphony is that Sony gives them as much time as they want, it is open ended until Yamauchi says, ok, that's enough - but then with Prologue included, 5 will probably sell 15 million copies. Yamauchi can decide to put/take things in or out at the very last minute.

You misunderstood, I meant the over scheduling thing. Aren't the premium cars a result of them realising they over-spec'd?

Turn 10 are not in that position though, Microsoft push them to deadlines, as can be seen by how regularly they release their games, so they prioritize and get everything they can do right as right as they can in the strict time frame they have. They do a bloody good job. All software has flaws and bugs, but a train wreck is a different matter. It's not an NHS information system. Forza is not a mess, it delivers on what it is supposed to be.

No and despite the minor gripes, they've got the best console racer on their hands. GT5 will no doubt take that title for it's vast amount and the overall package, but it remains to be seen whether the actual driving is up to par (and my fingers are just as tightly crossed on that one than anybodies!)

Stop over anylising it and enjoy it, you feckers! ;)

If you bought a car and only got the shell, wouldn't you want to know why?

Not really possible.

True words.

Had a stunning session with the Torro Rosso at Montreal. On pole. Brilliant session all aroind :D

Think I've discovered something tonight that explains both the cars not pittnig and the wildly differing reports about people finding it too difficult/too easy.

I took the tyre wear off (already had fuel off) and not only did all the AI pit during the race but the difficulty dropped ridiculously. I managed to get pole in the Virgin almost first attempt.

To rectify this I upped the difficulty level a notch but was still out in the lead after the 1st 8 laps. It was only a cock up and a spin that dropped me down the field at all.

So....people doing well - Tyre wear on or off? Likewise - people doing not so well and having that annoying AI non pitting issue? On or Off?

I have difficulty max'd. I haven't yet encountered the pit bug, but then I always pit late.

Does this need a wheel to be really enjoyed or is it OK with just a controller?

Funnily enough it seems fine with a controller and keys. That's probably because you don't have car feedback at all with them, whereas with the wheel you only feel the front of the car, thus if you try to drive properly you can't, you have to arcade drive

It's getting off topic, but you are assuming that he never knew that all along, when he probably knew a very long time ago that there was no way to get 1000 cars of that polygon spec in the time he had and with the staffing he had. Is it a bad design decision to then include GT4 car models in there? Possibly! It doesn't break the game though.

Of course not. It's interesting they haven't released a demo (unless you count prologue, but the driving has apparently drastically changed hasn't it?). Borked A.I and no car feel then? :D

its not perfect but its a start, i am delighted with my purchase. dont feel like i have wasted a penny at all. on catalunya now. have done practice session and struggled with the set up to get decent times in the dry. kept pushing the car and tweaking tyres and set up but i wasnt getting what i wanted, the clouds were coming over and the track was getting darker. went onto another hot lap and the rain started to come down. was stuck behind traffic and the track was getting damp quick. i had schumacher and hulkenberg behind me, massa, vettel and webber in front. anyway we all get to the s bend before the pit and the chaos begins! vettel slid coming out of it and webber clipped the back of him sending him spinning. massa got clear but i went too hard on the brakes sending schumacher into the back of me which sends me spinning right into vettel who was trying to recover. then hulkenberg without making contact with anyone slides off the track and into the barrier. chaos over? not exactly as we all start scrambling to get back into the pit lane, it was great fun:D

The demo? Well there was the TT at the end of last year, but that was just you on your own, and it has car feel. AI. we'll have to see. I don't have a clue if they will release a demo, but they seem to be showing it off enough. In the US apparently they have demo stations in almost every store, with an old build.

I don't see how you doubt it, as we've said before, physics models for all aspects of how cars behave are public domain, it's not complicated. You could probably run the whole thing on 1 SPU. :D

Don't get me wrong, there are great times to be had in F1 2010! It's just that even without the internet and knowledge, you can't help seeing the game as half done. Even the tweaks to the car set up aren't really as important as they should be, even though the engine is there that they make a difference.

It's disappointing, not because of what's not there, but because that the game is largely there underneath. It could be so much more right out of the box, but time constraints have obviously made them not only cut corners, but blatantly bodge.

Finished 3rd finally. Vettel and Webber went past me with frankly astonishing pace on the first corner and I never really caught up.

Dropped down to 7th after the pitstop but after getting past 1 and the others going in for pits themselves got myself up to 3rd. Had an amazing 5 lap battle with Vettel for the 3rd place.

I love this game :D

Finally teams are taking notice. HRT, Lotus, Force India, Sauber and acouple more are interested. Won't accept anything lesser than a Renault right now though which is just better than my car.

Ah. That bend gives me nightmares

I was racing that twat Alonso earlier, wheel to wheel for about 5 laps (obviously he had the straights, but I was murdering him round the corners). I then got stupid and lost traction on my O/S/R wheel and just caught the spin but unfortunately (yeah right) done Alonso in the gravel.

I actually was more pleased with that, than my podium

(BTW the A.I does react to gravel on the tyres, they just slow down a touch)

There was no gravel where I could shove Vettel into unfortunately ;)

But it was a really enjoyable duel. He was murdering me for pace. The pace of the Red Bulls is just unbelievable. Not quite sure how I managed to keep him at bay for so long

I've beat them on Legendary with a Lotus, so they can be taken. Although it helps that you can easily spin them if you know what you are doing :smirk:

Well I had a bit of a mid season dip in form where I realy struggled. Now I've had two good races in a row finishing 7th (or 6th) and 3rd.

Actually enjoying the cockpit view now. It's helped me considerably cut down lap times.

I told you it would. Once you get your corner markers on perfect tyres, the cockpit view makes it easier to judge and allow for wear, although at the expense of side on view.

Speaking of which, what's with the shit mirrors? The cars pop in and out just as much as the bloody scenery!

Don't get me wrong, like I've said, despite the bugs this is still the mutts nuts.

Online in particular is absolutely the most fun I've had on a game in ages. Get a mate or two in a lobby and jump into some of those 3 lap sprint races. Absolutely awesome entertainment.

Full feature set online, set assists, rules, championship, quali or just race. Online is as good as it gets.

Redlambs I don't doubt you but if you have everything off (assists wise and expert difficulty, full sim tire and fuel I'd love to see a video of you winning in a lotus, you must be an absolute demon.

I don't doubt him, I have done it in a Virgin (yes with no assists, manual gears, legend AI). I really wouldn't class the AI as quick enough bar the odd circuit, I finished 6th in the championship and have moved on to the Toro Rosso team where I suspect I will be in the title battle from Race 1.

Tires and fuel?

Didn't even know there was legend AI I have only seen expert and that's hard enough.

Tires and fuel yes. It is called Legend AI isn't it? I thought it was that and Expert mode which is all assists off.

So yeah, people romping home in the top 3 every race in career...stick on the tyre simulation, just for your next race. :smirk:

Ignoring the fact that i've already pointed out you can feel the difference in wear across the two front wheels, why are you so sure people have got wear off?

I haven't won yet, but a 2nd in my first proper race (bahrain, as difficult as the game gets, lotus, cockpit view, custom car setup, 20 laps) isn't shabby, but I still think it's more the ai being weak. No idea about getting a video, but one day i'll get a live account and join you lot for a few laps ;)

I'd like to see these games implement component wear. I'm talking reduced brake performance, chassis deformation 'GT4 had this :D', engine wear that kind of stuff.

I'd like them to simulate the fact that you can't run at 100%, 100% of the time. Short shifting to save fuel and slow down engine wear. Engine braking to reduce brake wear. I know this is a bit more hardcore sim, but it should be in games like this with the ability to turn on and off like tyre wear.

Didn't notice, but can somebody tell if this has the ability to make on the fly changes like bias and fuel mixture?

some of you must be really good, im in a lotus and there is no way in hell i could catch the top teams never mind getting on the podium

Info for anyone worried about their save file corrupting

After a practice session where you complete an R&D objective and unlock a new upgrade make sure you then load in to the following qualifying session before exiting the game.

And also, as our technical support FAQ now says:

We believe this only occurs if, after completing an R&D objective, you...
- Retire to the paddock via the Engineer (in the garage).
- Terminally damage your car and select retire to paddock.
- Get disqualified and select retire to paddock.

As long as you progress to the qualifying session before quitting the game this problem will not occur.

Awesome mate, full respect that is skills no doubt. Yeah you should definitely get online, you would be challenging the best with your times.

I play it the same way but am finishing pretty much where lotus should.

I qualified 17 in Aus and was well chuffed.

I was in 13 going into the pits which thought was pretty good, unfortunately I spun and lost a few places just before and then when I came out was 23!

Trulli was behind me though so at least I beat my team mate.

I can't understand how anyone can play the game on a controller and be fast. So fair play to those who are!!

I'm playing with a FF steering wheel and pedals and it makes the game much easier. Some of the tracks are deeply flawed though, you can slam the car into a corner a whole gear higher than the cars around you. Giving you much faster entry and exit speed. The slower tracks are much, much harder to drive round and get close to the top.

I'm stopping playing the game until a patch is released. Simply too much wrong with it at the momment to be worth investing time into learning all of the tracks etc.

You can change wing angle, engine power on the fly, also something to do with tires which I presume is choosing which ones you will put on on your next pit stop.
