F1 2010

What settings?

2.07.093 3 seconds behind Webber, I'm playing on default at the moment, haven't played a driving game in god knows how long. Going to play a few races before I switch assists off. Qualified 10th so will stick with that.

2.05.792 forgot there was a Qualifying 2 and 3 lol 2 seconds behind Webber the bastard, slow down.

2.08.659 now 16th on the grid in my first race, I'll take that. Damn Vetell is fast.
It's frustrating watching Vettel. Sometimes I think he's got some super mega turbo boosts on his car seeing the way he flies by
No, not most people, a couple of people who are being told it is because of driving over curbs, hitting other cars etc.

If it was a bug we would all get them.

Fact is I played a full room last night 7 races and the only punctures suffered were in crashes, makes perfect sense to me.
Exactly. I've had no issues with tyre punctures. Infact I've never even suffered a puncture

Finished 1st race 6th from a grid position of 10th, got a fair few warnings for causing collisions  but was pretty good, had an awesome battle with Hamilton for 5 laps who finished 7th in the end, he took me on a corner but I zipped in front of him on the penultimate corner and took 6th.

First impressions are pretty good! I like how I'm not a quarter of the way through the season after an hour either. Time wise I think it plays out very well.

How many hours do you spend daily on racing? I fear I might as well just forget about uni if I go get this.

I've only spent a few so far (comparatively), but then again I'm playing it on long weekends and have only just finally got around to qualifying 10th for the first race.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to spend too long on it anyway!

So there's no way you finish the whole championship, including qualifying and racing on one weekend?!

Mind you, it gives me a headache after a few hours starring at the screen anyway.

There are so many good games out there that I havent even played yet, and it's only getting worse. More and more games, more time consuming, how will this end.!

if you are playing the long race weekend setting then no, not a hope in hell

Such a shame the game is so bugged. If it's really true that it's basically a time-trial game then it sounds like something I'd spend £15 on when it's out as platinum :(

Does anyone know how to make the PS3 controller work on the PC? Can't find the options anywhere...

Car setup guide

For those of you unsure how to set the cars up (beyond the generic ones of course), the guys at race department have set up a great forum:

F1 2010 Setups

Although be warned, some of those settings are top end. At least try the gear ratios and brake settings though.

Good review. I think 6 out of 10 for something that ticks so many boxes is a tad harsh and think is more down to his obvious weariness with codemasters.

I imagine he was like me sat on opflash dragon rising forums being sold an illusion and sees this as repeat.

The biggest gripe for me is the FF though which he does not mention. Most games longevity is online and there this game shines as much as any other driving game.

12 cars on track lag free with these standard of graphics and sound is an amazing achievement. I hope he is wrong about the patches for times and FF though.

solid 8 out of 10 for me.

4th in china:D

started to have light rain 5 laps from the end and then 2 laps to go it gets heavier, i was in 8th and then hamilton, button, massa and rosberg all decided to jump into the pits to go for intermediates, i decide feck it i can try getting through 2 laps on primes, first lap managed to get through it but the next lap it was much wetter and just about managed to keep the car on, could have easily lost it on a few corners and i had massa breathing down my neck. was so intense and so rewarding to cross the line, i know this game has problems but feck it i still love it anyway and getting that 4th was amazing considering i was nearly taken out by petrov and sutil at the first corner, wankers on either side of me nearly took me out:mad:

6/10 and the backlash on this game sounds a tad harsh. I'm not a racing fan and all, but surely this level of quality is not F1 2010 beta like many are making it out to be? Maybe in-between beta and gold to be fair. To me, they've got the whole atmosphere and driving really well done for what it's worth.

I suspect that they were rushed with the release date because of GT5.

I never want to see Monte Carlo again. Was coming 9th when I decided to pit and forgot all about the pitstop bug which pushed me down to 20th. Restarted the race and was doing well again coming 8th when I decided to wait until the 13th lap to pit. Somehow I ended up 21st as everyone passed me so wtf? Is there a bug where some of the cars just don't pit or something?

see, I think that looks shit Weaste :p

The colours are too vibrant, makes it look vagually cartoony. Although the spec on the track does look better i'll grant them that.

Well this bug's not affected me yet I think. I waited to pit right until the second last lap at Monte Carlo and dropped from 8th to 13th

The more I play this, the more I think 6/10 is a tad generous. Absolutely nothing is finished at all in this bloody game! From the user interface, to the information, from the driving controls, to the A.I.

This is definitely rushed, won't be fixed by patches and quite frankly is bodge job. Even the driving (which physics-wise isn't so bad) is full off design decision problems.

I doubt I'll be paying for the next one ;)

Yup. I'm not overly bothered by all the bugs and faked qualifying times. I'm loving this game. It's great fun and a great driving experience.
There's real tension while racing, for me atleast :D

Well I din't pay for this one :nervous:

If they get the contract to do it. ;)

It seems to be selling gangbusters in its first week though, but word of mouth now could kill it. Let EA have it and let Criterion have a go. Doubt that Criterion would want to get tied into such a thing though.

Well they had it and decided to drop it some seasons in so it's better off if they don't get it.

Arghhhh!!

Somehow fluked pole at Monaco with no assists and start the race as normal, leading the race and decide to pit then come out in 23rd! I pitted from the front of the race yet back markers were coming out of the pits before me!

So frustrating!

There are much better games out there for driving tension. This is piss poor! On Legendary I qualified 10th for Bahrain in a Lotus, and finished the race second. No assists. That's just not right!

The only challenge is the crap wheel feedback.

Well I never condone piracy. However, I see it as Codeidiots owing me money now.

It's not that it's a bad effort at all, just needed another year in production. Everything it does has a good base, but it's obviously extremely rushed at the end. I mean, you can feel the wear difference between the front two tyres, but what good is that if you can't feel the back of the fecking car!

I particularly liked the part where I got frustrated and rammed Trulli (team mate) from the start of the race (first corner at Bahrain). He went up in the air and all wheels came off. Later that lap I went past the pits and his little dot was magically there, and the next lap, and the next lap etc etc...

Funny then, that my team radio kept telling me I'm putting in slower laps than him and I was registered as 16/24 when smashing him should have made me 15/23. Also, my car was pretty wrecked, but I was still managing 2.04 laps. Yep, that's realistic

With many people crying about so many bugs, I'm yet to encounter anything major somehow

No argument there. Thing is though, I think this is more about time pressures than ability.

Never said otherwise, but then at the end of the day, you know this when you start the project, unless you have an open end to delivery. If this was business software, they'd be getting their arses sued by the end or intermediary client. You as a consumer though are simply stuffed, but that's how it works.

I simply don't understand why they tried to do so much knowing very well that the terms of the license meant that they had to release this year. Bernie wants his money off this on a yearly basis. Instead of fecking about with the weather and cars falling to bits, maybe they should have built a functioning game first?

Well I'm happily ignorant and it's helping me enjoy the game even more :D

Well I guess it is functioning. Just it's more of a demo.

Oh and the same could be said about the GT5 team also, but that's the game development industry as a whole.

Think I've discovered something tonight that explains both the cars not pittnig and the wildly differing reports about people finding it too difficult/too easy.

I took the tyre wear off (already had fuel off) and not only did all the AI pit during the race but the difficulty dropped ridiculously. I managed to get pole in the Virgin almost first attempt.

To rectify this I upped the difficulty level a notch but was still out in the lead after the 1st 8 laps. It was only a cock up and a spin that dropped me down the field at all.

So....people doing well - Tyre wear on or off? Likewise - people doing not so well and having that annoying AI non pitting issue? On or Off?

The difference with Polyphony is that Sony gives them as much time as they want, it is open ended until Yamauchi says, ok, that's enough - but then with Prologue included, 5 will probably sell 15 million copies. Yamauchi can decide to put/take things in or out at the very last minute.

Turn 10 are not in that position though, Microsoft push them to deadlines, as can be seen by how regularly they release their games, so they prioritize and get everything they can do right as right as they can in the strict time frame they have. They do a bloody good job. All software has flaws and bugs, but a train wreck is a different matter. It's not an NHS information system. Forza is not a mess, it delivers on what it is supposed to be.
