F1 2010

Catalunya is a simple track, you just need to remember the braking zones.

Most of the track is allright. It's just those one or 2 turns at the end which ended up ruining my race :(

That final corner in Australia is something else too  I drifted through it multiple times in practise just now, inches of the outside wall, I love it. Not that it helps my time but just keeping it on track is awesome. Melbourne has always been one of my favourite circuits.

Monte Carlo wasn't the best track for my first race using manual braking so I went back to auto. Qualified last by a long way, got up to 14th on the first lap and managed to hold everyone up behind me for 9 laps until my car gave up  I ended up being lapped by everyone at least once and some a few more with about 4 front wings before being DQd for cutting a corner when just wanting it to end :(

Well weaste, at least we know now why they didn't put a demo out.

How come?

Can't understand the criticism the game is superb.

The aim was to create a racer where keeping on the track was not to hard, given the downforce of f1 cars, provide good close racing with great graphcs, sound.

It has great sim attributes like setup, dynamic weather, pitstops, full race weekend and season of f1.

The tire simulation and track evolution is fantastic.

Loads of positives in this game for me.

Definitely exceeded my expectations.

My only gripe which I hope then improve is the ff of the wheel. The resistance is very good but the feedback for losing traction, hitting cars, walls, or curbs is poor.

Also if the bugs reported which I seem to have luckily avoided start happening of course they would need to be fixed.

I don't see many complaining about the driving.

Its the fact that the AI doesn't actually exist apart from what you can see...

If you're not following a car then the times are generic on every single car.

Weird. I don't seem to be getting that. The field stretches out after 8/10 laps. I do find it a bit difficult overtaking the slower cars if I get pushed to the back, but I am driving a Lotus so fair do's.

Once a patch is released to fix a few issues then i'll be more than happy.

You've just described my Catalunya race

Don't even want to think of Monte Carlo right now :nervous:

Well atleast my team mate is even worse than me :D

Lotus is the fastest out of the 3 offers we get right?

Starting career mode now, after practicing the bahrain GP and got the time down to 2:00 on all Manual :)

Oh dear. Encountered my first bugs with this last night whilst attempting the Malaysian GP.

Had the game pusing up on me during a practice round and thought it was gonna crash. Then during the race I came out the pits and all the cars were like ghosts and I could drive right through them.

Worse than this though I had to quit the race twice because I was disqualified for not switching tyres even though I'd come in earlier in the race both times. Not happy at all.

It's a shame really because they've nailed the racing aspect and it's just so fun to play. Ah well, hopefully they can patch some of the worse bugs.

I think the Torro Rosso is faster if the timings on my game are anything to go by.

I've luckily not encountered any bugs till now :nervous:

I hope you don't either. I went over to the codemasters forum after and read about much worse. I almost wish I hadn't now. It's taken the sheen off the game somewhat.

Come on Marchi, I'm beginning to like you but there's no need to follow Weaste's line of thinking about everything you know.

I've not even played it!

The only input I've made into this thread is to doubt it because of who has made it, I have played their games before, noted that the lighting looks odd, and commented on certain things regarding the AI from what other people are reporting.

I'd love an F1 game if it was decent, and on this one I'm holding off for the moment, because the reports are so varied.

Tongue in cheek my friend, tongue firmly in cheek

I'm not sure how and who I'd recommend this game to. For fans of proper racing games, I'd say no if you've got a PC that can run rFactor or iRacing, but yes otherwise. I'm not sure about you though, because you love GT games and since traditionally they are on par with the PGR series, you might like the racing in this F1 game.

The lighting issues are just stupid mistakes (again), however to be fair you are going far too fast and concentrating that it never becomes a thing you ever actually focus on.

It does do much more right than wrong, the cars and changes are varied enough to feel different and the physics are nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. The major downside, as I've mentioned plenty before, is the rather negligent Force Feedback. You just can't feel the back end of the car, which is bloody stupid for a game trying to simulate the speed of F1. The whole package, on the other hand, is very nicely done and a good start to what should be an enjoyable series of games.

So to sum up, I'd say it's worth a pop, but not at full price.

20th in australia, need to put that one behind me and move on, how do you sort the tyre strategy? i can select tyres for the start of race but when i came into pit they put another set of primes on instead of options so i had to pit again and then they put on options, how can i do it so that at the first pit stop they put on options instead of primes

I had a knightmare with Australia. Qualified 10th, set out on the race in the wet, drove 9 laps on Inters managed to drive upto 1st (everyone else pitted on lap 6-7). Came out of the pits in 5th, managed to overtake Hamilton to get 4th and then BANG. Goddamn puncture. By the time i'd come out of the pits I was down in 20th, got back upto 18th.

Wasn't happy.

Now on Malaysian GP, qualified 1st, 3.75 seconds ahead on a 1:35.175 lap.

The thing about AI is only in qualifying as I understand.

It's a time trial anyway so does not really matter.

Although the fact the cars appear just in front and just behind you to pressurise you on your quali lap is a tad harsh.

Don't forget I said this a couple of weeks ago when I asked why they weren't releasing a demo. I've been skeptical since they took over the license.

It was strange from the start that they didn't release one when they did it for Grid and both Dirts....

Did you manually select the other tyres from the in-car menu? If not they'll only change to the other type for your scheduled stop.

That must be what's happening with me. You think the tards would know that I only want one stop in an 11 lap race and change the tyres accordingly.

My bro reckons you can set the race strategy (including tyre change) by looking left in the garage before the race. Will have to try that.

Ended up finishing 15th in Malaysia. Was 4th at one point and then pitted and came out in 20th. Could've swore some cars didn't even pit but that may be just me being paranoid now.

No your right, at certain race lengths the AI cars do not pit and don't get a penalty. Another bug, I have had Senna score 8 points though not pitting, hardly realistic.

Well that's gash. Gonna have to race everything at 30% or above then to be safe.

Like I said, I hope they patch some of this stuff but they're track record suggests it wouldn't be wise to hold your breath.

I've just bought a Driving Force GT and in my over-zealousness have turned off all assists. I can rarely complete a lap or 2 without my Lotus car spinning out of control after cornering. What am I doing wrong?

Very tempted to just crack this on now - shit day of sport so far. United (a)pathetic and now Alonso looks like he's strolling this race - the racist bastard.

Counting on the Patriots to make the weekend almost bearable.

Apply the throttle smoother and short shift out of the slower corners, braking is also tougher with no ABS so apply the brake slightly earlier and softer.

You decide your pit strategy pre race in the garage.

You get an option to chose which lap you want to pit and what tyres you want to put when you do come in.

Well I went until the 2nd last lap without pitting and I got a warning message to pit in

Ergh, I'm onto Valencia, I really do not get on with this course.

Other teams are starting to notice me now, but I won't leave my beloved lotus.. Until Mclaren come in anyway..

Ok, so i've done 3 races now and i've noticed something really odd.

I find it VERY hard to take my wheel off in a crash. So i've just tried doing some simulations on a random grand prix race. (I have damage simulation on FULL). No matter what I try, I really struggle to take wheels off opponents and my own car. I can take off my front nose fine, I can mash up the car a wee bit, but anything else and it just bounces straight off them.

I also find the lack of Safety Car feature, or how cars magically disappear when they stop out on track, a real put off. Dropped a bollock on that Codies.

ah nice one, just had a look now and it is indeed there, thanks:)

That was a bit of a tongue in cheek dig at Weastie ;)

You at least play these games. It's when you are so sure that a game is going to be the most brilliant thing ever that you are willing to buy a 2nd console for, without even playing it, that's the level you need to stay clear from mate

Anyhow, have you played F1 enough to give an opinion yet? I'm interested, since you also play the decent PC games as to what you think with this one.

qualified 15th in malaysia but had a 5 place grid penalty from a collision in practice:(

I've just started taking Career mode seriously now. I've managed just under 2 in Bahrain (legend, no assists) and am quite consistent at that level. I got one good qualifying lap in though which got me into final qualifying, so my very first race I'm in 10th.

I'm happy with that, I'm going to race tomorrow (20 laps) and see how well I do.

Oh, and I drive with no racing line on at all (cockpit view), because I don't know about you guys but the bloody thing throws me right off!
