Ezequiel Garay

Almost £20 million with 1 year on his contract? Anything but sensible

Strange really. If this happens is as a pointless, strange and overpriced transfer as Song to Barca last season.

Never watched him play. Can someone please fill me in? Is he a strong slow player like Vidic or is he quicker and more mobile? Even if Vidic is leaving, which I fear he might, I don't see the need for him unless he truly is world class. We still have Rio and Jones, Evans and Smalling are all ready to take the step up, imo. Especially Smalling, if he finds his form again, can be a truly world class CB as he has all the attributes in his locker; terrific pace, great strength, good vision and normally decent distribution.

If Vidic does leave plus with Rio inevitably going to play less and less games I think it would be good to have another experienced head in there. Smalling and Jones are both still young, undoubted potential but it's always good to have experience there. I guess with Garay it might be a case if it does happen, of a player we've been tracking and feel we have to get now, as if he did join this season without anyone leaving we would be over stocked (although with our typical injuries may be not...). But I suppose Jones/Smalling will be/can be used at rb for game time and jones in the middle at times. But going forward I think it would make sense to get in another head at some point but it's not a priority either.

He has a good technique but he's slow as feck. A decent player but not world class and I'll doubt he'll ever be. Haven't seen him much recently, but have seen him in Spain playing before. Probably around Evans level, a bit worse. If Vidic leaves, then ok, but I don't get why Vidic should/will leave. 6 CB is overkill, dunno how we're going to make them happy. Almost forgot, he's versatile and if I am not mistaken he can play as a left back and as defensive midfielder.

why with these reports of vidic leaving? he is the captain, the team is Manchester United and we are still winning. his wife might not like the food and the weather but i doubt it is much better out there in serbia? just wait for another 3 or 4 years and mr and mrs.vidic can go and live in hawaii.

on a serious note i cannot think of a better CB who is better than vidic in the air. we need to keep him, i would not swap him with any defender in the world, not in the next 2 or 3 years. if we are going to sign a CB now then it must be for someone who is too good to miss out. if not then we should be happy with the 5 we got.

yes, yes it is....especially the food, it's no contest what-so-ever....

back on topic though, I see no reason why we're even discussing our captain leaving. Don't see it happening, if you remember he's been linked with a big team every summer the past 3 years, last summer it was Real. it's most likely just another bullshit story to make profit off of

This is so meaningless when talking about multi-millionaire footballers. The average family in most European countries may eat better food than their British counterparts, but a footballer living in Cheshire can eat anything he wants.

I know it's meaningless, that's why after the part you quoted I said "back on topic"...

I thought Thia* food was now the nation's "favourite"? God know how they come to these bolocks conclusions anyway, they're not better than all the shit polls you see in the tabloids... "3 in 10 men would most like to play golf with David Beckham" etc.

*I came back to edit my typo but thought I'd leave it in as an illustration of how much of an obsessed muppet I've become.

@epteixeira: 6 months ago Benfica President told my business associate: "All players but Garay are on the market. He's already sold to MU."

some Brazilian journalist who doesn't normally make stuff up apparently

Also saw that, wouldn't surprise me at all. I doubt Moyes would have come in and decided that a centre-half was a priority.

Even if Rio and Vidic depart within two years, we will have Garay, Evans, Smalling, and Jones as our CBs. That's overkill I think.

If we get Baines and Garay in this window, then we must have the famous warchest ready. Surely we aren't going to ignore midfield and even the wings for more defenders.

British food is the best. Chicken Tikka Masala? Yummm

I had no idea how spoiled we are in California -- and I did know we are all spoiled here -- until I ate meal after meal in the UK recently. But I have no complaints with the service.

If that's true then it means that Sir Alex saddled the club with a totally unnecessary signing at a time when he probably already knew he was going to retire.

Dunno, I somehow feel that's unlikely, he wouldn't do that. Though it might be an effort to make sure that Moyes doesn't sign a central midfielder...

At the moment we've got Rio, Vida, Evans, jones, smalling. Is that not overkill already? I don't think so. We fight on all fronts each year and squad depth is essential. Don't forget how our defenders like to drop like flies at any given moment. If one is going out then bringing one is no harm.

I've lived in London half my life and California the other half... and my god there is some shit in California. Yeah, there's a lot of good stuff too, but the same applies to London.

You're just eating in the wrong places mate.

Some of you should be football managers

These rumours seem persistent enough to make one think that there must be some truth to them. Would still make no sense.

Only thing I can think of, is us forward planning.

Easier to buy a top class centre back now and juggle the pack, then panic buy next year when Rio retires or Vidic moves on.

"My business associate". Sounds legit.

"Garay at United worries Vidic"

"The announcement of Garay's signing by MU is imminent and Brittish press relates that Vidic is extremely worried about it. He will talk to Moyes to know what the manager's plans are and might ask for a transfer if he thinks he won't play regularly."

This from Record, Portuguese football newspaper. I translated.

Sports journalism is so cheap. Their only reference is the "Brittish press" but after googling I didn't see any other source talking about this other than a shady website I never heard about. That said they're still adamant he's going there, and remind us of that every two days.

I hope this transfer is the same as Gaitan's transfer. A 'done deal' which never happened.
