Evra to Juve?

Not really, since both of those sides were/are clusterfeck sides and all over the place, anyone would have struggle in their sides. He is a better LB than Buttner and Vermaelen any day. Would have been ideal for cover for us right now.
Nah fabio was never gonna make it.

I still have major doubts over Rafael too though

I still don't understand why that idiot Moyes sold Fabio.

Come on. He hardly impressed at QPR or Cardiff.

Him going downhill had nothing to do with Moyes. This is coming from a Moyes hater.

Noooo, no more bloody Fabio regrets. How many years were we going to give him to ever regularly start here? He was never going to oust his brother, and he's not left footed, so would never have made it.
He had some loan spells and didn't look too special, sh!t teams or not.

Let the Fabio stuff go now, please everyone.

Can't actually believe we'd bother letting Evra go for a handful of sweets. Him being a mentor to ease Shaw in for his first year looked an ideal scenario.
Well, to everyone bar Evra, who'd have to face going from playing 95% of the games to perhaps 20-30%

Remember when Fabio came on as sub in the league cup, and got sent off a few mins later?

That was all Moyesie's fault too. The guy was cursed from the start!

Well he is pretty much done as far as being a reliable left-back. We've been bitching about his crap performances for the last three years, incase some people have forgotten about that.

No doubt a good lad in the dressing room but really not a huge deal as far as losing talent goes.

The only thing I would be annoyed at is this not improving our chances of landing Vidal. I would hope and expect this gives us a better relationship with Juventus when bidding for him.

I don't want to be a muppet but I cannot see us selling Evra and leaving us with oneleft back and losing all that experience for 5 million..... we must be getting vidal from this.

So Evra almost gone but of course there's no serious talk in media about Anderson & Young's departures ?

We supposed to make this squad stronger than it is, not strip it from experience that's sometimes most needed to win with strong teams.

I will be sad to see him go but I think we have to be fair to Evra here also. We have just paid 30m on a new left back which says to Evra that if he stayed then he'd be a back-up. If Evra has a chance to be playing first team football in the CL for the remainder of his career, then I can see why he wants to go and why we have sold him. Let's not forget we let Evra run down his contract to the point where he'd have been talking to other clubs and then activated the extra year. He would have most probably sorted out his next team tbh and then maybe we got wind of this and activated that extra year to get some money out of the deal?

Anyway, great player and will always be remembered with the best at OT. Good luck to him in the future.

Because nobody wants those two bums most likely.

I don't think he is a better LB than Vermaelen, only time he ever looked good to me was when he had that run at RB. And I'm not sure he would be ideal cover either as he is very injury prone and isn't actually that good at defending. Also looks like he needs a run of games to get into any kind of form, which, while understandable, isn't what you want from a player that is gonna be in and out of the side a lot.

I don't think the two deals are related because that would be stupid on Juve's part. Maybe it's us as a club just respecting Evra's wishes after all he's done for us or we've figured we could sell him and replace him with Blind who could command lower wages but it still doesn't make sense because Evra's wage was just for a year so there are no massive savings there. We are losing a lot of experience, the bedrock that was supposed to be influential in grooming our relatively young backline. I can't help but think that losing Evra and Vidic was unnecessary since it's Rio that clearly looked past it.
I'm also sad that none from Evra and Vidic stuck around to earn a testimonial with us, it doesn't sit well with me because those lads have done us proud on too many occasions.

If it weren't for his offensive abilities, Evra would have been a liability these past few years. I know he's a great human being and a gentleman but I've really started to dislike him recently. The amount of times we've conceded from the left has really damaged our last season. I genuinely believe if we had signed someone like Coentrao we'd have finished 4th in the premier league.

whose going to buy them? you can't sell something if no one will pay for it

Evra has been a brilliant servant for the club. We've always let them go on a cheap so that they can sort out the salary on their final contract. Phil Neville, O Shea etc come to mind. I don't want him to go, but if he does go, I hope he goes on the cheap and gets a hefty salary.

Yes, Lord knows he needs it. It's hard out there for a multi-millionaire.

i still have a soft spot for fabio, as i remember how good he was in the lead up to the 2011 champions league final, and though he wasnt bad in the final itself(though he did get substituted) but genrally though only really him and rooney didn't look out classed in that game.
but the i suppose thier are countless players who have had a few good games that they havn't been able to live up to for the rest of thier career... look at anderson and the arsenal match for instance.

but still i was sad to see fabio go.

I was hoping Pat would stay forever, playing less and less games, until retiring into an ambassadorial role where Pat just travels the world wearing United clobber, speaking about himself in the 3rd person.

But no. The selfish goober wants to play football. Pff.

:(

This is one of the most bizarre sales in our recent history. I know Evra has been on the decline the last few seasons but you would think he would be the ideal player to tutor Shaw and also to share the left back position with him.
With Evra and Buttner going It leaves us with one inexperienced left back. I really hope we get de Vrij who could fill in at left back if needed.

Optimism, win

This might be a load of rubbish, we've only heard rumours from Italy. Think we should wait for it to break in England before we say our goodbyes

He has been a great and loyal servant to the club, in his pomp definately one of the worlds best left backs. But lets be honest , defensively he has been poor for a while now. The only arguments for why he should stay really are for his experience especially as Vidic and Eio have gone, but that is in the dressing room as Shaw will surely be first choice, the other argument is that we wotn have cover for Shaw, but if Evra wants to now leave and not be second choice I dont begrudge him that at all.

Sad to see him leave. Always thought he activated the clause to stay, not for the club to do so.

Fantastic servant, personality, character, well just everything about him. Would have loved him to stay 1 more year, as a perfect role model for Shaw.

Will be sad to see Paddy go. :(

But couldn't have asked more than what he's given the club. He obviously feels he can get more playing time and security and Juve and he deserves that opportunity.

If he goes we have only five senior defenders at the club. Reinforcements desperately needed.

I hope he leaves, even if he is a United legend and one of my favorite characters, it is time that we finally start trusting our new generation rather than overly relying on the old one. Rio/Vida/Evra gone means that Evans, Smalling and Jones gets a chance to become the world-class players they can be. Jones has got just a handful of games as a centre-back since he came and if he had played all those games as a CB he'd be further ahead in the development by now.

Smalling is 25 soon and Evans is 26, it is late to become a regular first eleven starter at that age and with Shaw here I hope we give him every second to develop. He has proven he can handle that playing 66 games in two years.

Under SAF/Moyes we let the older generation stay for too long which meant the games they got to play came at the expense of the youngsters getting game time and getting to show themselves.

Really hope not. We need his experience. Also, we need two left backs.

People think it's all about performance, it goes beyond that. Evra has a great role to play at the club in a time like this. It's not as simple as saying, he's past it, sell him. He still has good games in him and he's a leader off the pitch.

This is the one departure that has really disappointed me so far - assuming it goes through. His experience and leadership qualities are more important than ever after Vidic and Ferdinand leaving. The latter was someone we should certainly moved on, but one of Vidic and Evra should have stayed on, purely because we have such a youthful defence and very leaders in the squad.

And if Vermaelen is brought in as a player to cover LB then that's an instant and unnecessary downgrade. You'd imagine Shaw will play the large bulk of games, but Evra would still offer far more on the pitch deputising for him and also off the pitch than Vermaelen would. He has earned the right to do what he wants though and he is a United legend, just a shame he would signify that status with a testimonial.

Not looking forward to the official announcement. Will be very disheartening.

More and more reports from Italy. What Louie is thinking ? I thought Pat had a good World Cup and at some point impressed the new guy in charge.

Makes me think now if all these in vein of World Cup rumors about Blind aren't just a talk for the sake of talk... So far we sell more than sign but are we really selling the right players ?

Why are we selling all of our experienced defenders/legends in one go?

I know LVG likes young talent, but this is mental. I guess best of luck to Paddy, but definitely going to miss him. He's up there with my favourite players of all time - he's got united in his blood.

If we get Vidal out of this then I could accept it, but is that really all that likely?
