Everton 2017/2018 thread

Then what happened?

No point being good for one seasom. You have to build from there, and Martinez didnt, hence why he was sacked.

You do realise your hero Moyes also had seasons where they did well and the following season they didn't build on it.

Remember when few years ago some people thought most of their first XI are better players than ours? Good old caf.

Not that they was but this is now a completely different squad and some of them players have gone onto better things as expected. Lukaku and Stones looking great at the manc clubs. Barkley rejecting a move to the champions. Deleufou back at barca plus we had peak Baines and Coleman then. McCarthy was looking good at that point aswell before the injuries ruined him. We had a very talented squad back then but sadly was not able to build on it due to Martinez being out of his depth.

Better strikers I guess with Lukaku while we had Rooney and Persie past it.

The rest we clearly had stronger although fullback area they got strong. Coleman is a big miss for them this season.

I think RM should have been given more time TBH.

Got to aim high now. Ancelotti or Tuchel or someone around that level. I rate Dyche but think Everton need a big, proven name at this point.

Imo, they're in a relegation battle.
The most unbalanced team I've ever seen.
Zero pace...January can't come quick enough for them.

Hope they hire Unsworth. Seems another Tim Sherwood type hyping himself up.

I am not sure kicking manager will save Everton as Koeman is a good coach. They might get some energy boost from it, but the problem with Everton is they are so slow from the start that I am not sure how much a boost will help them.

Don't see the quality in the squad either to lift them. Sigurdsson could do things I guess if they focus the team around him and put a lot of faith in set pieces.

Everton need to bring in some pace in January. They are an alarmingly slow team all over the pitch. Most top sides have pace on either side and through the middle of required, even the smaller teams set up that way. They’ll go down if they don’t fix it in Jan.

They are even slower than us the first season under LVG. That take some big skill!

Koeman was shite. He chased that freekick merchant Sigurdsson and bought Klaassen as well. Schneiderlin was his buy too. He's part of the reason why this Everton team is in this state. Don't think Giroud is the type of striker that would suit this team either.

Problem is, without proper personnel, no-one can help them.

Their forum is a joy to read.

Guess the player:
Woeful player, I want to see people defending that. He been playing like that for weeks yet people are all giddy as he's ******, thats exactly what Unsworth is doing as another EFC fan.
The fat useless sloth should be stinking out the lower leagues
Should be in the coach Home by 5pm, no way he comes out in this second half. Lost the ball more times that a Sunday league player and has completely disregarded his support for the attack by going hunting for the ball.....then losing it the bald tit
Pathetic half. Bin him off before we go down.
Has absolutely no discipline or maturity to his game whatsoever. Just running round everywhere like an excited 10 year old trying to show off.

Going down at this rate, unless they start winning a few games soon. £45M on Sigurdsson seemed like a good idea at the time but they just look a bit of a mess just now. Had to laugh when I saw in today's BBC gossip column they are planning a bid for Sanchez in January....
Should have had a penalty though today, Fuchs on Lennon just after they went 2-0 down. They are staring down the barrel just now though. In freefall.

Nail on head. Goodness only knows what they were thinking when they allowed Koeman to add so many sideways-passing midfielders to his team over the summer. Looking at Leicester's first goal today, Everton can only dream to counter attack like that. They'll continue to get rolled over until Jan at the very least. Wouldn't be surprised if they got relegated this season- unless they got Dyche in.

This one r.e. Rooney made me laugh:

The problem for Rooney is nobody else is on his wavelength. Nobody making runs at all (barring Lennon's) which forces him to hold onto it too long and lose it.

Wasn't really a problem at United cause he had movement - and managers who demanded it.

Err, nah. That's just Rooney now.

Difficult to see who is going to currently want to take the job, the squad is a mess. They could be looking at Moyes or Harry Redknapp.

Jagielka and Williams both look overweight and slow, incredible that professionals are allowed to skip the daily routines they are given. Surely they monitored? Ah well, no wonder why they’re losing all the time

They've not played that badly today but clearly lack a CF who will play on the last shoulder.

Also how Rooney can get a game ahead of anyone is amazing. The guy was garbage with the exception of one pass that the CF didnt control

First page:
So what do y'all think about Everton?
Signings so far:
- Jordan Pickford
- Davy Klaassen
- Sandro Ramirez
- Michael Keane

I think they are lacking firepower but those 4 are excellent transfers for them IMO.

They are buying well. I think 5th place is possible.

Has more brains than Barkley, who got decent playing time despite not impressing Koeman particularly.

If Everton can get Sandro Ramirez, I can see them playing nice attacking football. Don't know much about Henry Onyekuru though.

Agree. Midfield three of Schneiderlin, Gueye/Davies and Klaassen looks well-balanced and of a good level. They'll need a forward with good link-up play to get the best out of it.

Klaassen was absolutely crucial for us this year.
Has a good engine, good positioning, good shot, can speed up play with a 1 touch pass, can score goals, great drive and leadership.
I have no doubt he will do well for Everton. I wouldn't be surprised if he stays there and will be captain in the third year or so.

All depends on if they can get a decent replacement for Lukaku up top. Klassen is already an improvement on Barkley.

It has been a great start to the window for us. Probably the best one in my lifetime anyway.
Hopefully we can get Sandro confirmed as he looks like he could be one of the bargains of the summer. I also expect Barkley to stay now and i for one will be very happy if he does even though he has led us on .

Ultimately though it all depends on the Lukaku situation. He either stays or we need to replace him well for it to be a good window.

:wenger:

Biggest waste of money since the Bale-sale splurge. Can see them easily going the way of Sunderland if they're not careful. Usually I'd say they would be safe by virtue of the fact that there are 3 teams worse than them. But at this moment in time, I couldn't even say that. Hammers have been unlucky recently and Palace are trying to put up some sort of fight. Even Huddersfield and Brighton are giving it a go, though I reckon at least one of them will run out of legs as the season progresses. I'd be very worried if I was a Toffee right now.

They really are in trouble.

Just to think some of them thought they had a chance of the League 10 weeks ago.

I feel sorry for them ... but then I realise it's Everton. They most probably blame the Red Shite for it.

Hilarious how people got caught up in their spending spree. All their signings were overpriced and nowhere near top quality.

Anyone who watched Rooney over the past three years would’ve known they were in big trouble if they expected him to fill Lukaku’s boots.

He seem to be terrible when it come to signing players no doubt. I think he is a good coach though. 2 different things. He did well at Southampton partly I think due to them having people dealing with the transfers and improving the squad.

I can't be massively surprised by the results, but the panic by sacking Koeman and creating a difficult enviroment will surely not help them either.
To turn this around now is a big mental challenge that I think few managers can do. Big Sam probably the best manager to do it though.

I hate the fat dung faced potato. He looks knackered after 10 minutes, and spends the entire match shouting at the ref and chasing after the ball then immediately losing it, the stupid tit.
