Everton 2017/2018 thread

They were awful by all accounts but Spurs are a very good side. Saying Everton won't finish in the top half seems slightly strange. I'd be surprised if they don't finish 7th again.

Koeman or whoever has fecked up this transfer window so bad. Imagine knowing Lukaku was leaving for 2 years and still not having a replacement ready to come in.

I didn't get why so many people felt they were going to go up a few notches this season. They've got a lot of samey players and have bought to maintain a 7th to 10th place standard, and have lost their star player.

They're devoid of a plan, never mind the obvious lack of pace. Calvert-Lewin and Davies need to play and could end up being more important to the team than most of the new signings. Pickford is the only one showing his worth, saving them from further embarrassment.

How could they replace Lukaku?
You sell Lukaku for 100 Million. You sign a striker for 50 Million and a creative midfielder/ winger for 50 million. The Klassan signing and then the pursuit of Sigurdsson look baffling. We have Rooney, Klassan and Gylfi who can really only play behind the striker and he signed all 3 in one window and then tries to force 2 of them into wide positions. I don't get what his plan is.

Rooney has to play. That was the story of his career so far, and it will be like that at Everton too.

What is even stranger is that Calvert-Lewin put in a great display as the centre forward against City and then hasn't been played in that position since.

True. And I agree with regards signing three similar players. The problem with getting a top striker is that who would go to Everton who is a decent value £50m player?

From the sounds of things, Everton were confident they'd get Giroud and so spent a good chunk of the summer working on that deal, only to be left disappointed. Then didn't give themselves enough time to find an alternative.

Whether Giroud would've replaced Lukaku's goals is another matter.

But you're right, knowing that they were losing 25 goals and not securing a like-for-like replacement is criminal. It could cost them dearly.

Similarly to Swansea - you can't lose that many goals and assists (Llorente/Sigurdsson) and not expect to struggle.

How is Sandro Ramirez rated among Everton fans? Few La Liga journalists rated him very highly and said he was very good bargain for Everton. Looks like he didn't score yet and not undisputed starter.

Looks a bit lightweight and erratic at the moment but it is only early days and the way we just lumped the ball up to him on Saturday was pathetic.

Same with Lukaku last season isn't it? Playing long ball but not enough supporting players in the attack.

In certain away games we would play like that yes but against most teams we supported him well. Davies would make great runs behind him and Barkley and Coleman would carry the ball very well down the right.

Cheers.

Koeman needs to go. Horrendously dull manager. Cant see things improving under him. He's got that typical arrogant attitude where "no! it's the kids who are wrong!" Need some fresh blood in that seat.

Horrible team, horrible manager, horrible fans, horrible ground.

Hope they get relegated.

I remember him managing Valencia and he was doing such a bad job and so many crazy decisions that it looked like he was doing it on purpose but perhaps that's his level. Not going to last much longer at Everton.

They've looked wank again. Bar that ten minute spell when the adrenaline was pumping, they've been slow and static.

Hope they don't sack him before the derby, otherwise they might win for a change. 2 months away yet so most likely he'll be gone by then.

Who'd take over though.

This'd be super funny:

He left Everton in a really good position. Was after he left they went down the shitter - similar to when Sir Alex left United.

Erm they finished 5th after he left. They were good during the first season for Martinez. But they been hit and miss since just like they were under Moyes.
