Everton 2017/2018 thread

I think Keane and Pickford were good signings. Klaasen just hasn't settled but I have to assume he's better from what he did at Ajax (even though Dutch football is poor). Sig was over-priced for sure and getting him when Rooney and Klaasen were already there was crazy. I still think Everton will finish 7th though.
Not a chance in hell.

They are in real trouble and in for a real fight this season. I have watched them enough both in the league and in Europe this season.

Everton don't have goals anywhere in their squad at the moment. They need to be honest with themselves and bring in a defensive minded coach who can secure 40 points for them this season.

Another episode of 'Everton getting battered' failed to disappoint tonight then. I don't know where the arrogance comes from where they think Europa League is beneath them that they continue to rest players through the campaign as if they've somehow got a chance of winning the league or finishing in the top 4.

Yeah I doubt any Everton fan thinks that.

Most probably think they could get relegated. They're complete muck.

They have no goals. You can survive a leaking defense if you can actually score the odd goal, but without goals....

So what are these weaker teams that Everton can beat in the league to stay up? Even Palace look more capable of scoring than them. They need to appoint Big Sam, like him or not, he's a miracle worker in keeping teams up.

Even if they were playing their strongest side Lyon were going to wipe the floor with them.

There's basically nothing positive about that team they put out. Ashley Williams is this season's Wes Morgan. Schneiderlin is hopeless. Cuco Martina as a left back and Gylfi as a striker?

When things are going poorly the solution is not to play as many players out of position as you can. You need to be doing the basics right.

Why on earth did they not try to sign a striker apart from Giroud?

I remember them been praised for doing good transfer business early, spending the Lukaku money before they got it was really shrewd, etc, just proves the point (if it were needed), that too much player turnover is a bad idea, and not relacing your striker is just ridiculous.

Hope they pull it together a little, as it'd be sad to see them go down.

Their signings were poor considering their squad balance and what they lost.

Keane and Pickford are fine, Sandro too for the price but beyond that they have spent heavily in similar players or signed bunch of nobodies really.

They should try to somehow get Marco SIlva if they can from Watford. Or Failing which Big sam for the fight.

Will be ridiculous if they get relegated this season and the mad thing is it's very possible.

A lot of their fans had a good laugh at United under Moyes, so now I'll sit at home laughing at how utterly shit their entire club is. Yes I'm being petty and I don't care :)

An example of spending silly money with no actual plan.

Very much so. I look at little old Saints, and how we spent when we sold for relatively good money (when all combined). We didn't go out and spunk it all away on a few players. We kept to our model of the £10-12m player, that was our level. We got Pelle, Tadic, Mané, Wanyama, Long (!!) etc etc While Everton are richer than us, are they really in the £30-45m player bracket? Seems that they tried to run before they could walk, and maybe they should have scouted better and gone for the hungry £20m-£25m players (and not from the Eredivese!).

But one question I have is, WTF happens to some of the ex-Saints players when they leave us? Some continue to progress - Mané, Wanyama and maybe Lallana. But WTF has happened to Schneiderlin, Shaw, Lovren, Chambers, etc??

As it is, while I can well understand the angst of the Toffee supporter, I am afraid that I have zero sympathy. The Billy Big Balls acts when they hooked up with Mushy, stole Koeman and had the Lukaku money to spend left me with the feeling that they definitely lacked class. Still, they were the first club to have dugouts.

While Iam here.

Did anybody know that from their Main Stand you ' could ' see Liverpool's new stand. The diehards and County Road's finest didn't like . The club then built a structure outside the gap between the Bullens and Park End to block the view of our new stand.

Words fail me .

Lukaku money well spent then.

What's strange is that in bringing Steve Walsh, you assumed they would have gone down this route of trying to uncover hidden games like Southampton did with Mane for example or more to the point, like Walsh apparently did with Kante & Mahrez for example.

I'm curious as to just what the feck he's been doing at Everton, seriously who have they signed where they needed his input?

Pickford & Keane had just had great seasons in the PL
Rooney is self-explanatory
Klaassen was clearly more a Koeman signing I'm assuming being a fellow countryman, again well known at Ajax played against Utd in the Europa final etc
Sandro was ex-Barca youngster had just scored 14 goals in La Liga season before
Sigurdsson obviously well known been in the PL for years
Vlasic they signed 'cos he played against them in the Europa League

So who exactly did they have this guy scouting? Nobody they signed needed his input other than maybe Onyekuru, and even he was a 19 year old who top scored in the Belgian league for a team in the bottom half not that hard to work out he might have a bit of talent...

Seems to have been a total waste bringing him in and not utilizing him, or he's to blame for most of these signings...

How does Steve Walsh still have a job? You'd think his head would be buried in the classifieds by now. The fact that they have no decent striker is the DoF's fault surely?

Sandro Ramirez is no Lukaku for sure but he was a decent striker last season. So was Soldado before his move to Spurs so I guess we've seen that before too.

Agree, I'm loving this. Have a load of Everton fans on my Whatsapp group who never tire of sticking the boot in at United when the chance arises. Had a feeling their transfers were not up to much in the summer but didn't think they would be this terrible.

I've said before but the fact they never got a replacement for Lukaku is a display of unbelievable incompetence for club of their stature. They knew he was leaving from about March and yet for the next 5/6 months, all they could muster up on a shortlist was Giroud and they left that until deadline day. Total shambles.

I do wonder if they'll be better once if and when they get the likes of Barkley, Coleman and Bolasie back, but that potentially brings further problems. Is Barkley even going to be in the frame of mind to play? How long until Coleman gets injured again? Will Bolasie regain form after a long injury lay-off before it's too late?

I think of their signings Pickford and Keane were still decent and the right call and so was Sandro for the money, other than that they've bought overpriced players like Sigurdsson or taken massive risks on the likes of Klaassen, they've not though about their squad balance, they've not attempted to shape the team to a particular style, they have no depth and nobody who can score goals, meanwhile the likes of Williams, Jagielka and Baines have gone backwards and Schneiderlin has turned in to a pub player.

So yeah, unless they get somebody in who can crack the whip and install a bit of belief and determination, and has money to invest in January in somebody who can score goals, more FB depth and some pace out wide they're probably bang in trouble.

Agreed. You've got to consider where your level is when Depay scores against you. :D

I know he was pretty cheap but every time I've seen Everton this season he's looked awful.

I'd imagine they are wishing they'd spent the lukaku money on some decent players and didn't sign rooney, even though he's been better than he was here. Terrible signings. Bang of qpr when they got rich off them. A total scattergun approach and the worst imaginable way to bed so many new players in...

remember those summers where spurs would have money after they sold a big player and they'd buy at least 5 project players that never really came to much? Not exactly the same but expecting lots of players to come into an unsettled club and instantly start playing well? It almost never happens. These players are bought as players for the long run a lot of the time. I don't really see how Everton have actually improved the first team this year at all apart from Pickford, Keane and Gylfi S... not much when you consider the money spent.

Yeah sorry should have stipulated, clearly hasn't settled and doesn't look like it's gonna work out as he's been shit every time he's played from what I've seen too, I just mean at 22 years old, ex-Barca trained, scored 14 goals in La Liga the season before he was well worth the punt in today's market at £5.2m for depth purposes if nothing else, but obviously should never have been relied on as there was no guarantee he'd transition to the PL and bring those goals with him.

Tee Hee !

I've tried finding a picture of it but can't. I think it was scaffolding with a blue tarpaulin wrapped around. They may have splashed out and put EFC on it or something.

Ah yeah I get you.

Pretty much where I am right now. In a weird way, I was ok laughing at our club, but they seemed to revel in Fellaini and Moyes' plight.

They genuinely should go for Rodgers. He's a pretty decent manager and Everton have good young players who he can develop nicely.
