Everton 2017/2018 thread

But, BUT Sigurdsson is a top class player, apparently. Yeah, they're fecking hilariously bad this season. Ashley Williams is an absolute joke of a player and Swansea done well to get rid before his drastic decline.

Where's all the Rooney talk??? an accomplished footballer starting games for us not that long ago..

Rooney isn’t their problem. He doesn’t start for them I think and they still can’t win

They get rid of Lukaku with no replacement in place...then sign Rooney.

They spend a shitload on midfielders who are really just bang average.

They alienate one of their better players though to be fair he was injured.

They sack their manager and after a month are struggling to get a replacement.

They feck up a really straughtforward EL group.

They really are a disgrace! Feck 'em! Ashley Williams is really getting hammered on Twitter!
Group was straightforward allright, the two best teams walked it and will now play for top place

Both Allardyce and Pulis are available... they should just bite the bullet and go for Big Sam as they're in a relegation battle.
Pulis isn't any better than the other dross that is taking up space at the bottom of the table.

If they can tempt Big Sam out of semi-retirement then it's a no-brainer. But the same could be said for every other premiership club that has changed manager this season, and so far it doesn't look like he's interested.

Surprised this one is still being used.

After the first couple of games some posters were having a shocker re Rooney and Everton in general. Plenty of talk on Rooney proving people wrong, Everton finishing above Liverpool. Other posters mentioned it was too soon to judge but that was dismissed.

A player is a problem if he makes no difference to a team. Seems Everton have got a few of those.

A player is a problem if he hinders the team. Right now, he seems to start only off the bench. Unless they have someone better (he is their PL top scorer), he isn’t a problem.

Rooney is fecking terrible and I have absolutely no idea why they signed him. He will be hard to get off their books considering his wages.

Well given he's started to get benched logic dictates they must have someone better. But that's a poor argument anyway. Players are bought to improve a team. If said player doesn't do that what was the point?

I'm guessing you were using the same arguments when he was at United though.

The Rooney defenders are here to stay, forever! This is of course, contrary to all the evidence that point to the fact that he's completely and utterly past it.

He came on a free. Quite obviously he wasn’t supposed to be the main striker (Everton chasing costa and giroud are evidence of that). The point was if he is on the bench and still they can’t outscore the opponents then he isn’t the problem. It can’t get more sensible than this surely.

I'm surprised they've not been thinking about Martin O'Neill. Decent pedigree in management, top-half premier league experience and probably open to a new job after doing as much as possible with a poor Irish squad. Not the most exciting manager in the world maybe but if Sam & Pulis are amongst the candidates then beggars clearly can't be choosers.

Koeman must be smiling.
Can’t stand him, but I did wonder at the time he was sacked whether others weren’t equally (or more) responsible for Everton’s disastrous transfer window. What the bloody hell does Steve Walsh do?

It’s hilarious that it now turns out that the player who made their elderly defence look decent last year was the even more elderly Gareth Barry.

Exactly.
On what ground what this supposed to be straighforward for Everton though (the question is rhetorical and not aimed at you) ?
Er, the group is one of the toughest, and there would be no shame in finishing third. One point from five matches though :wenger:

Moyes did an excellent job at Everton regardless of what has happened since. To have kept Everton in the top 7 and occasionally challenging for the top 5 with a minimal budget for so many years was a real achievement. Subsequent managers have had it better and done much much worse.

Exactly.

Atalanta are what 13th in serie A. If Everton had been as competent as they were last season they could have easily gotten third.

Oh sure Lyon and Atalanta must be shite because they don't play in the PL. Typical ignorant towards foreign teams, really.

Well we're just echoing arguments of the last two years. Nobody is claiming he's the problem. Just a problem.

What a sorry state this club is in right now after spunking a lot of money in the summer. They need someone to get hem going and quickly. Surprised Big Sam wasnt given a run until the end of the season. There is no better 'quick fix'

Shouldn't have sacked Koeman without having a replacement ready to take over. They're even worse with Unsworth.

I think he wanted a two and a half year deal instead of a quick fix 6 month type. Plus, i think he wanted them more than they wanted him.

Tough schedule and EL. They're easily a top 10 team in Italy. Everton meanwhile sold half their team(Lukaku, without whom they would have been worse than WBA or southampton) and spent the money on dross. Everton probably weren't better than atalanta last season, and they weakened way more than them

OL is a strange one but at their best easily top 3 in france

Yep I heard him on talksport talking about it. Strange if you ask me,I mean they are no closing to having a manager in place and it's been a month?

Their problem is no-one is available to suit their ambitions.

Moshiri wants Everton to evolve in their playing style and also to become a regular top 7 team, and possibly to emulate Spurs' progress. That's why he placed so much faith in Koeman, but the latter has proven to be a mediocre manager riding on his purple patch with Southampton.

Moshiri doesn't see the likes of Big Sam being the guy to take them to the level Everton want. While I am sure Everton would happily offer Sam a 6 month contract to keep them up this season, Sam doesn't want to be an interim manager.

The ideal managers would be Tuchel or Silva. Obviously, Tuchel doesn't want the job and Silva can't be prised out of Watford. And as no-one is willing to do the temporary job, they are stuck in no-man's land.

Moshiri is just a guy with a lot of cash but with no clear plan at the moment.

Thanks for explaining

No way can they give the job to Unsworth, he's been dreadful. They'll go down if they keep him.

And to think that this is the only team that has managed to take points off City this season
Just about too. With a man advantage they made real hard work of it - writing was on the wall for the season no matter how good City are.

It was never straightforward (specially for a team who has basically no European experience recently) indeed but 1 point is also pathetic. The PL is a bit overrated anyway

At the time I couldn’t understand why the club let him go, thank feck they did though, he’s been appalling at Everton

Their squad is quite decent tbh, but they are in a downward spiral and I think they will have to hurry before they become one of those surprising relegations.

Third longest serving team in the top flight. Been in it even longer than us, after our mishap in the early 70's.

Tee Hee.

That was the season United won the first ten games . The media proclaimed " Give it to them now "

Not sure where youse finished but Everton came second and I think West Ham third.

Aye, Robbo got injured and 4th it was.....

Seeing my Toffee-loving mate shortly for a few jars.....cannot wait to wind him up. He couldn't have had nightmares worse than how this season is panning out for them!
