These are totally rubbish reasons for keeping him. Just cause he's likable doesn't mean that we should keep him. A player that gets millions of pounds every year should contribute more than being likable. And about not moaning? How can he moan that he at times is rubbish, while most of the times he's injured. I like him and when he is on form is a very good player but that happens about 5 times a year. The only reason we should keep him is because we are short in that department but if we can sign someone he should be sold regardless that he looks a funny guy.

Ok :lol:, I'll learn from my words and demonstrate that if he has a good season that I won't go around telling everybody who thinks he's a pointless footballer to feck off. I am not sure I'll be able to handle it though, she'll be a steep one to master that is for sure.

You realize that your reasons for keeping him was that he's likable and doesn't complain, neither of which have anything to do with him as a footballer. If anything, you're the one making him look pointless.
 
But he won't have a good season though. And if by some miracle he does, fantastic.

Anderson is a very good player, yes he has not been consistently good in all games but playing in central midfield requires a player to develop a certain rhythem to their play which can only be done through palying regularly. Yes i would prefer that we brought in a world class central midfielder this summer because his injury record does not justify his place in the squad but if he can stay injury free i would only take maybe 5/6 players in world football over him because i think when he gets it right he is an exceptional talent.

As for Banega, I used to want us to sign him but i think his time has passed (a little harsh but bear with me). Don't get me wrong i think he could be good for us but whats the point fo signing another "good" midfielder when what we need is exceptional. We often forget what we have here at United and i just don't see a point in bringing in a player who is anything less than exceptional as it does not strengthen our position.

My opinion for what it's worth is that we should (as we ahve been) only try and sign the evry best available i.e. Fabregas or an exceptional young talent like Reuss, Gundoguan, Kroos...etc.

Ridiculous. He is exceptional, and we dont even need an exceptional midfielder to improve on Anderson and Cleverley. We just need a good one. Anderson has been miles from good enough, while Cleverley has been inconsistant. When he's good he's good enough to do the job, when he isnt its a problem

Bullshit. Think about it. Is it really easy to sell a player? No it's not. Is it very easy to buy a player? Nobe. Keeping him on wages and perhaps he'll be fit for most of the season is a low risk to take. Most of the cost has already been paid. Keeping him on isn't costly. He's never been more trouble than worth when he's playing. People like it when he starts. He's the best we've got next to Carrick when fit. We still have other options in that position but they aren't as good.
The reasons for keeping him very strongly outweigh the reasons for selling him and without any other club actually seeking out his employment it's a bit pointless to talk about selling him. I know that you specifically didn't say we should but you are guilty of jumping to simple conclusions too quickly.

Anderson is clearly not our best CM partner for Carrick, hence Cleverley is consistantly picked instead of him

Anderson's problem has most obviously been match fitness and fitness in general. That's the reason that he hasn't started more. Against most teams I'd rather have a fit Anderson than Cleverley starting.
 
If the club aren't happy with Rooney's off-field behavior, I can't imagine they would love Banega. He would show up pissed to training at Atletico and ran over his own foot with his car. He's clearly a moron.

Try to remember that Cleverley is only one year younger than Anderson. He's only played two seasons for us and last seasons he barely played more than half of the games. That's despite us having very few players. A fit Anderson held down a first team place whilst younger than Cleverley, keeping out better players. Cleverley is competing with a 40 year old Giggs, unfit Anderson and Jones. That's it. He's a competent player but I doubt he'll be much more than a squad player. Anderson was much more than that.

But like I said, Anderson's problem is fitness. It will most likely always be like that which is as shame given the time, effort and patience that he's been given. Still, much better to keep him on and hope he stays fit than to pay to release him. But you think that's insane.

Yes. Anderson hasn't been unfit for the last 18 months, he's been unfit for a section. He's been fit for the rest, just poor.

To say Anderson has been far from good enough is a rediculous statemnt in itself. Say he has been inconsistent (Agreed) say he is injury prone (Agreed) but far from good enough. It's a silly statement.

With regards Banega, again i reiterate he is a good player but exceptional? really? He has had a couple of exceptional performances but if he was truely an exceptional performer then you would have seen him plucked by a bigger club long ago. Exceptional players always do.

He was an important member of the squad/team in 07/08 (Eng & Euro Champions) yes he started to miss lots of games beyond that but is a rediculous statment and suggests you did not watch our team during that period.

Anyway my apologies i shouold not be talking about this in Banega thread.

specific team picked to beat chelsea but if i rember correctly he did come on and scored his penalty. aka he had an important contribution to that game....not to mention a lot of very good performances on route to the final. But you're right because he didn't start the final he was not important.

Mad maybe but i just think he is a (relatively) young central midfielder with a huge talent who has been everything from Poor --> Great in his time with us.

Oh and for the record i was not comparing him to them, i was simplly hilighting the pathetic weakness of the argument that him not starting in the Champions league final meant he was not important.

Anderson divides opinions on here and that is good as it promotes discussion but a massive dissapointment? If you go back 12 months many said the same about Carrick.

United fans are very fickle and IMO for many on here a lot of players contribution to the game is not noted unless they are catching the headlines all the time.
 
When has he been great for us? The only "great" game I can remember is the semi final second leg vs. Schalke, a team who were totally out of their depth. He is a mediocre player at best. He is constantly injured, and when he's "fit" (not a word befitting Anderson) he can barely play 70 minutes.

Oh and btw 25 isn't young, perhaps for a Goalkeeper. But Midfielders tail off at 30-31 after their legs start to fade.

You do understand that they either have the players who provide the legs to support them (in Pirlo's case), or are used sparingly (in Scholes, Giggs cases.)


But again, these are the best fecking midfielders of our generation. Don't even start comparing Anderson to them.

I've not got time to go back through my season reviews to jog my memories of his best performances.

I have no response re his injury record as i concede his injuries have been far too regular for my tastes.

As for the age thing most central midfielders peak between 28-32 thats their best years. To say they tail off at 30-31 displays a lack of understanding of the position and the levels of maturity taken to play the position well. For a central midfielder Anderson is still young this is why i'm not as hard on him or Cleverly because they are both still developing.

Xavi is widely regarded as the ebst midfielder in the world right now but he only really started to excel around 25/26 (again just to clarify not comparing their talents or in any way suggesting Anderson can be as good as Xavi).

And that was with regular football Averaging 30-50 games a year from his breakthrough.

At 25 a Midfielder still has a lot of time to improve his game.

Where though? If Anderson has another one of "those" seasons, I doubt even us in our insane midfield position would keep him.
