Ever Banega

Could someone describe this player in a nutshell?
He'd probably be quite cramped and likely have to curl himself into a ball. I'd also imagine that he'd be unable to breathe unless he managed to poke through a couple of air holes, so my best guess is that he'd be dead of oxygen starvation.

Well he's nothing like Anderson imo, apart from being a bit small and roundish. The reason I say he's not like him is A) Anderson is mostly an athlete. His actual footballing skills are secondary to his athletic ability in terms of running and good strength and balance. Banega is the opposite in that he has all the football skills but he doesn't have very good speed, he can be a tiny bit lightweight at times but generally gets a freekick when he falls and there are still times when he has great balance too. And B) A couple of seasons ago he was the best midfielder in La Liga outside of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Anderson has never proven himself like that so Banega has personally proven a lot more. The problem is that since then he's had several injuries that have halted his progress and he hasn't hit the same general level he had that season where he was excellent almost the entire way through.

He definitely has had some off the field problems which people have brought up, but as someone who has followed for Valencia for quite a while its my impression that 1) Unai Emery was the main reason. As so many players faced disciplinery action each season for missing training or just falling out with him, etc. When its one or two players you should blame them. But when its half the first team squad who have had issues over a bosses tenure, then he just isnt commanding the right respect 2) There have still been a couple of issues with players after Emery has left, but fewer than there used to be. So I dont think Valencia is the best environment for inspiring the team to be professional.

So while its something to consider that he has indeed fallen out with Emery and has been fined by the club for not turning up for training and also going out drinking the night before a game with some other players, I believe those were the issues, I think you have to take into consideration that several other players made the same mistakes. At a new club with a tighter, more professional approach I'd expect him to be able to nuckle down especially as he can no longer play the young player card.

 How big are your nuts Ek?

Good summary though, to be fair.

Very good.

 well I didnt really describe him, let alone in a nutshell. I just wanted to point out why its crazy to me that anyone wants to compare him to Anderson when he had proven more by 2011 than Anderson has to this day. In fact thats why the story talked about 25 million euros even though his contract is running low. Can you imagine us asking for that with Anderson's contract running out?

What has he achieved? Except a few good games against Barca and Real Madrid. If Anderson played for Valencia i don't he would have struggled to match what Banega has done.

Nonsense as always. He was Valencia's best player that season in a team with Villa, Silva and Mata in it. I doubt these players have even heard of Anderson

We'll he probably did after he won the midfield battle against him at old Trafford a couple years back.

Why was he on the bench yesterday? Injured?

That's a fecking dreadful call.

Why are we all acting like Anderson's shit and Banega is the best thing since slice bread. The reality is if he never spent every season on the shelf and managed to build up a long string of games Anderson would be a top player.

Yeah, released and signed for Newell's. Odd. Super player.
Has he been released? Weird move. Talented player, but he's never had the right attitude or application. I thought he did well in the first half of this season. No idea what's going on.

He seemed talented but never that great whenever I've seen him, and certainly hasn't really improved the last few years. Not sure why so many were always obsessed with him for so long on here. Valencia releasing him says it all really.

Not one to be proven right but i did say he would never make it to a big club. Well he has the opportunity to get his head down and focus again.

Its more that Valencia have had lots of managers since they let go Emery for having the cheek to finish 3rd place in la liga yet again and all of them have been terrible. They've slipped down the positions, changing the team all the time and signing players who havent worked out and it looks like they're accepting being a 10th place team mid table in la liga with ideas like starting Parejo every week and letting Banega go, letting Canales go to their rivals and paying actual money for Senderos. If Valencia are even able to fight for europa league places next season it'll be a shock

we should have gotten him. Surely he can't be worse then feckin Cleverley.

He has breathtaking talent and i enjoy his magnificent character, but he is too flamboyant and proud for a nilbilly like Moyes to handle.

Disappointed we did not sign him, he has more talent that any of our other midfielders. A six month deal would have been perfect to see how he bedded in.

Talented yes, but no idea how he could be described as a magnificent character. Turned up to training drunk, there is a video of him online having a wank in front of a webcam, ran himself over and generally spent most of his time in Spain in nightclubs

Does he post on here??

he had a party boy reputation so probably like Ronaldinho when he was at Milan and Flamengo....both these clubs realized he was just not worth it despite having talent to be the best

Like that has stopped us signing somebody before

Lawl, ashley young really is a cocknose of immense proportions isn't he. If he had some football talent going for him okay, but now I just want to taste my fists of iron whenever i see his gormless expressions on the pitch.

Actually Valencia loaned out a lot of their players who werent first choice for the current coach to save money. Valencia have Sissoko at Liverpool, Rami at Milan, Guardado at Leverkusen, someone went to Serie A late on as well cant remember who (EDIT - Ah yes, Postiga who didnt do anything this season) And Gago only half sold to Boca Juniors (50% of his rights). On the other side Valencia have several loan deals in, Oriol Romeu from Chelsea, Eduardo Vargas from Napoli. It seems they just want to survive till the summer or their ownership situation is sorted out. In the meantime they'll probably stay just above midtable...

Banega gets to play in front of his national manager each week and revive his chances of going to the world cup. He certainly wasnt going from Valencia's bench. The move explains why his name was being linked with some lesser clubs in recent months. No idea if he'll settle down and put in the kind of performances that'll make him a starter again for Argentina, but he should be able to do enough to go to the world cup

Playing well tonight. Still only 26 years old. Is he going to end up at a bigger club? Perhaps an alternative to Strootman/Vidal/Pogba? Or will he end up failing to live up to all the hype in this thread?

He's got all the potential in the world, in my opinion, but apparently he has no discipline. Heard he's a bit of a party animal. Great player, though.

Valencia basically washed their hands of him, sending him on loan to Sevilla who are a domestic rival for 4th-6th place. I believe Sevilla have a fee to make the loan permanent.

It used to be that Valencia needed him too much that he got away with his indiscipline off the pitch, and it certainly wasnt only him, half the team would play up under Emery. But Valencia bought Dani Parejo a few years ago to be Banega's replacement because they were expecting someone to come in with a big offer. That never happened and Parejo went from being a poor performer in his first season, to being probably their best player last season.

On top of that Banega was moved forward into Mata's role behind the striker and imo he was never really suited for the role. He doesnt make good runs, he's not that mobile, he's not that good a finisher, etc. and thats the role he's been used at Valencia last season and Sevilla this season. I dunno how he played tonight but over the season he hasnt been impressive.

Honestly, Parejo would be the one to look at. And he's about the same level as Ander, who doesn't get picked. So...
