Ever Banega

So he has a reputation for being a drinker and a party boy in the spanish press........We'd better make sure we sign Koke at the same time too in that case

Ever Banega! Fit and on form one of the best midfielders out there. A older version of Thiago Alcantara. I have seen him control games against Barca and Madrid, one of the few who have come on top of Xavi for 90 min. He is exactly what we need, comfortable with the ball in tight situations, a very good and direct passer and not afraid to make a physical contribution if necessary.

I know he's a troublemaker and a playboy but can Moyes sort that out we probably have the most talented midfielder in the PL.

He's not that talented. Find that as an insult to our league.

A player that I really like and I think a realistic target. However, wouldn't have a clue of Moyes would be interested. I really like Argentine players. They have everything about them, they can play, they can mix it up, they are winners.

I think Moyes was after him at Everton iirc. A loan deal was close.

I know that doesn't necessarily mean DM might think he's united quality. But Fellaini is ;)

Banega is a top top talent. Could well be the best midfielder in this league if he gets his act together.

Never going to happen though. He's a waster.

Just sounds like a random question being asked. Of course they'd sell him for 25 million euros with his contract situation. Of course he'd vastly improve our midfield. But I'd imagine we're looking at other players. If we had wanted him surely he would have been who we turned to after Fabregas.

Knowing Moyes he probably need a few more months to assess whether a player he rated good enough for Everton is good enough for United. Hopefully after watching out midfield in training everyday he has made up his mind.

There's a difference between being better than what we already have and being good enough to help us get to the level we want to achieve. Too many are failing to grasp this at the moment and are coming across as being a bit desperate in the players they think we should sign.

Well i was never disputing that... Banega is not going to be the difference between us and Bayern Munich. But we need another body and the type we really require wont be available in January.

It will take more than one player, no matter how good he is, to bridge that gap I reckon.

What level is that? We went for a world class midfielder (Fabregas) and we never had a chance of signing him. What is desperate about wanting to improve the team? Signing someone "better than what we have" improves the team. We wont be signing a worldie in midfield. That's just not the United way in recent times and there are at least 5 clubs who have better chances of signing the best players in the world. Last one was Veron, 12 years ago and he flopped. We don't even need to sign the best there is, it's the right players that fit into the way Moyes wants the team to play. He made Everton a strong side with almost no resources and they played some good stuff, and he has a lot more money to play with now but unless absolute crazy money is thrown about then we wont sign the best midfielders in the world. The likes of Cabaye and Banega are more realistic targets.

The best team in the world doesn't have the best player for every position but what they do have is the right balance. Having Cleverley and Fellaini as Carrick's main partners in midfield is not the right balance but at the same time signing Banega doesn't improve that balance to a level where we can compete with the best.

What is our way? If we haven't signed the best right now we have looked at the best for their age we've never been a club based around signing mediocrity... we sign a lot of squad player but so do other big clubs, Chelsea a good example.

I was just talking about the central midfield. Ideally we need a potential world class winger and a left back on top of that to be a real shout for the best team in Europe.

Would be great if we could get him on loan with an option to buy.

We don't often sign players who are already at the top of their game. Carrick was not exactly top of everyone's wish list yet he's been arguably our only very good midfield signing in over a decade.

He was Spurs best player and dominated a midfield battle against Arsenal. I remember Henry giving him praise. I don't see the difference in buying Carrick for £16m and buying Xabi Alonso for £10m.. both great talents and top class in what they do. No they were not the best at the time but they were still top class signings that are only warranted from a big club. Bayern Munich have been doing it for years and its only recently you see the bigger money signings of Gotze and Martinez and even then the only real world class player they have signed in the past 4-5 years have been Ribery and Robben (I'm talking at the time of signing them).

Basically i don't get your point as we do not differ to any top team except Real Madrid and Chelsea.

It can be said that Ribery wasn't close to being world class when Bayern bought him. He has improved drastically since joining them.

Oh he is talented. I have seen him dominating players like Xavi and giving a match to Barca's midfield. His problem is that he seems a bit of a nutter so is inconsistent, so I would be a bit worried that he can become Ando MK2 if he comes here, but his talent is unquestionable.

Honestly thats the only issue with me. He just reminds me of Anderson, all the attributes except he can finish. He'd really need to up is game another to levels if he is to be anything what we need him to be.

Who said we need to sign world class? I'm talking about signing potentially top players, which is the United way. When have we ever made a habit of signing numpties like Banega, who are only ever in the news for the wrong reasons?

Banega will never happen...Moyes said there will be no stop gaps in January and that he will be signing players for the long term so I'd imagine our January signings could be something like Moreno or Shaw, Will Hughes, Ryan Gauld and Everton Ribeiro and that would be wishful thinking to think we could land all of those without fierce competetion from other clubs

Some people don't get the difference between signing what you need to become a top team and signing a top player.

Bayern are were they are now because of signing Dante, Javi Martinez and Mandzukic. None of who are in Fabregas' league.

We signed RVP and are still in the same place
Hard to argue with this, it's a good point well made.

Well he's nothing like Anderson imo, apart from being a bit small and roundish. The reason I say he's not like him is A) Anderson is mostly an athlete. His actual footballing skills are secondary to his athletic ability in terms of running and good strength and balance. Banega is the opposite in that he has all the football skills but he doesn't have very good speed, he can be a tiny bit lightweight at times but generally gets a freekick when he falls and there are still times when he has great balance too. And B) A couple of seasons ago he was the best midfielder in La Liga outside of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Anderson has never proven himself like that so Banega has personally proven a lot more. The problem is that since then he's had several injuries that have halted his progress and he hasn't hit the same general level he had that season where he was excellent almost the entire way through.

He definitely has had some off the field problems which people have brought up, but as someone who has followed for Valencia for quite a while its my impression that 1) Unai Emery was the main reason. As so many players faced disciplinery action each season for missing training or just falling out with him, etc. When its one or two players you should blame them. But when its half the first team squad who have had issues over a bosses tenure, then he just isnt commanding the right respect 2) There have still been a couple of issues with players after Emery has left, but fewer than there used to be. So I dont think Valencia is the best environment for inspiring the team to be professional.

So while its something to consider that he has indeed fallen out with Emery and has been fined by the club for not turning up for training and also going out drinking the night before a game with some other players, I believe those were the issues, I think you have to take into consideration that several other players made the same mistakes. At a new club with a tighter, more professional approach I'd expect him to be able to nuckle down especially as he can no longer play the young player card.
