Ever Banega

Well I'm sure Mata has informed Chelsea about him too. So a good performance tonight will no doubt take their eye

He's done ok. Nothing special. Overhit a few balls. Had some good through balls but Soldado has only been able to be offside so far this match. P. Hernandez and Canales the danger men.

Prone to losing the ball according to Jim Beglin.

Tell that to Fabregas, Busquets and Xavi

He has lost the ball a few times that half, Albelda more-so - in fact he's played chelsea in on occasion.

But overall its evenly matched in midfield between Chelsea's 3 of Mikel, Lampard and Ramires and Valencia's 2 of Albelda and Banega (with Canales in the hole and being a team player trying to help defend)

Pablo has been his usual wasteful self, its quite annoying. He has plenty in each area of the game, he can move well, he's fast, he has good feet, he has a finish, he can pass and he can cross the ball. But when he gets into the final third he can do none of those things and the chance goes a begging

Oh I agree, I was just implying that Jim Beglin has either never seen him play or just made one of his standard ill-informed and cliched remarks based on a single occasion of him losing the ball early on.

Unfortunately I've never seen a Valencia game with English commentary that wasnt a load of bollocks. I'll just have to assume the Spanish is more apt because I dont speak it, but it makes a lot more sense to me than the offerings of itv and sky

I remember him giving it away quite a bit against us in similar situations. He tries playing through balls from deep that our defenders would cut out easily.

There was an occasion against Barca in which he was shielding the ball and then, for some reason, just passed it to a Barca player five yards away.

Made a few good balls in behind Bosingwa and the Chelsea CBs but Canales was the bigger threat today and saw out his defensive duties very well

Yeah he had his moments and was important to Valencia's play but didnt really take this chance to showcase his full ability against English opposition

He's better than everyone on that list, save for Bastian

cant disagree with that but by the looks of that list, Bayern have Schweinsteiger/Alaba/Kroos paired with Tymoshchuk/Gustavo (so far mostly Schweinsteiger with Luis Gustavo).

Unless they are unhappy with Kroos playing as the more attacking midfielder or dont think Alaba has the skill it seems a strange buy, especially if his price tag is 20M (ekeke's valuation) or his previous 8M tag from last season

He would bench Gustavo easily.

I'm not sure he is better than Kroos. Anyway I'd love to see him , Bastian and Kroos in the same midfield:drool:

I would have him ahead of Kroos in a deeper position (next to Bastian), with Kroos playing ahead of both.

Muller out wide, kroos ahead of Bastian and Banega, I reckon he'd be worth the 20M price tag. They are the second best posession side in europe and with him in the middle they will be even better there.

The thing going forward is that his contract at Valencia has a year and a half left on it in Jan. So unless they give him a new one his value will start to diminish soon

As for a 20 million euro price tag or an 8 million price tag, Valencia bought him for 18 million euros in Jan 2008. Would you sell one of, if not the most talented player in your squad for less than half what you paid for him when he's still young and still has over a year and a half on his contract? Thats why the 8 million euro figure that popped up in the summer seems laughable.

Saved Valencia in the last minute setting up the equaliser with a left footed throughball. Very well taken by Soldado as well

If its on, its the super secret transfer of the decade. For now Inter and Bayern seem the most interested. I'm sure the cash rich teams like PSG, Roma and Malaga will probably try and get in there too. But us? Doesnt look like it

I watched him at Atletico and there was no lack of promise. The main problem was he was getting booked all the time and the manager was using him as an impact sub. 60 minutes of rubbish football by Atletico and then he'd bring Banega on and finally someone would be passing the ball into Aguero and Forlan's feet, and behind the defence for them to get on the end of. He didnt get many goals or assists but the "promise" of his creativity was there for sure.

Like the look of this lad. always have. good passer of the ball, great at tight spaces, can dribble, play well under pressure, can tackle, has a good engine. Really think he'l get even better when played with better players week in week out.

Sounds like Carrick

The one problem with that midfield is mobility. Both players slightly under what you'd really want. Not sure it'd work with the two together

Wouldn't it work almost perfectly with those 2 together? Martinez holding with Banega given the freedom to move from box-to-box? From what I've seen of Eber, he looks pretty mobile on the ball & Martinez, whilst strong, is certainly no slouch. Id at least have faith that CM would be covered defensively, with more then enough technical ability to retain the ball for us.

But you've watched much more of Banega, probably both tbf. So I'll trust your judgement on this one. Though I think they're both massive talents, and young - which is a bonus.

Martinez is pretty much the epitome of box-to-box. That guy would be wasted just sitting back.
