Ever Banega

Well we leapt in to sign them because we were worried other teams would sign them. Inter have come out and spoken about interest in Banega, so if it were the same kind of interest we had in those players, surely we'd be signing him right now to make sure we dont lose him. I dont think we're that interested, if at all

Banega isnt very popular with Valencia fans right now after his brother put this picture on facebook

Emery doesnt seem to get on with him either, so despite what Banega said about staying at Valencia and being happy I do wonder if a transfer is on the cards and if they'd take slightly less money at this point.

Still plenty more than that mystery 9 million euro figure that keeps getting posted though

Emery today recognised that “there was a good offer” for Éver Banega during the summer, though it wasn’t accepted. “In the end it didn’t happen, and Banega is back in the squad, eager to earn his place. He returned from holiday early and is performances on the pitch have been there for all to see.”

I guess the odds are it was from Inter but who knows. I wouldnt be surprised to see Chelsea interested in him in the future with Mata there to back him

Some fantastic technical ability there. I should Valencia more often.

Such comfort against Barcelona's midfield. In the first half Valencia edged the game there, in the second half Barcelona started to take over. But another good performance

Really good yeah, I watched him closely the other night after seeing his last performance vs. Barca posted here. His ability to keep the ball in the face of huge pressure from Barcelona is fantastic.

feckin hell that's great stuff.
We have never been linked with him have we?

I like most is his ability to hold onto the ball against the high pressing game. Something most midfielders struggle against.

Also, big ups to Albelda. I thought he was immense in the first half for Valencia. A pity he went off injured at half time.

Think we should have really gone for him this summer. I think it's too late now, by the time next summer comes his price will be completely inflated through the roof. Destined for Real Madrid. Pity. Great player, and has proven he is most definitely worth a punt over the past 3 years, soley down to his performances against Barca if nothing else.

But thats the thing, as you mention it isnt the first time hes been brilliant against Madrid or Barcelona. So another season of doing it might not mean his price is through the roof

But you can tell, every season he is maturing as a player, and making more of the right decisions on the pitch. His ability of knowing when to get forward and when to stay back is second to none in my eyes. I am just dreading the day some giant takes him off Valencia's hands. I have been holding out hope that he will be a United player ever since you raised my awareness about him.

He's still only 23, and no where near his peak yet. He would be one of the few players in the world I would be willing to really splash the cash on. Would take him over Sneijder, Pastore, Hamsik and all these other attacking midfielders that are constantly spouted around the forum, anyday.

If we buy this player, we will be almost as good as Barcelona in a season or two. He's exactly what we need from a midfielder, arguably our biggest weakness.

There was a good few of us banging the "buy banega" drum all summer & we weren't even linked with him. Does Fergie not read these posts. Fergie - bloody-hell..

Class player & box to box aswell..

Well I honestly dont know but I feel like he'd cost around the same amount as Mata if he comes off another very good season

Believe it or not there were Valencia fans telling me they'd drive Banega to Manchester if United would give them 20 million euros for him. They seem a fickle lot, 1 "bad season" as they see it and they go from not available at any price to wanting to almost give him away. Anyhow, I saw it differently. In the second half of the season he was their best player in my opinion

Looking at this thread, I think we have our new muppet's choice.

looks really good does banega. have watched him before and always comes across as a very rounded midfielder. he wont be at valencia too long i think. top drawer player

There is a sure-footedness about this guy, he never looks unbalanced

I don't know what to make of this guy. He put in a great performance against Barca, as he seems to have done on a regular occasion against them. But, for me, there's still a big question mark over his mobility which could be a big issue over here. He's one that I feel could probably build a big name for himself if he stays in Spain, but I don't think a move to England would suit him. Having said that, I was completely wrong about David Silva.

Have I completely imagined it or was Banega not caught whacking one out online, similar to our Ashley Young? Could be risky having them in the same squad?

On the plus side we'd have two laptops, so Rio could tweet more often

Yeah he did an Ashley Young, not sure if it was before or after. But us signing Young shows we dont hold it against players

I dont think speed is that big of an issue in midfield even in the premier league. Look at the likes of Carrick and Barton who do well here. And although speed is probably the one thing Banega actually lacks, his isnt that bad. He just wont be flying down the wing that often

If by mobility you also meant work rate, distance covered, turning and so on, Banega has all of that and is definitely more suited to this league than Silva. Having said that he also has the qualities suited to playing at the highest level in la liga too as he again proved against Barcelona

It's mainly a result of watching him against us in the Champions League. He'd just returned from an injury, granted, but he was overshadowed by Anderson that day. I can't account for him being out of form that day either because I hadn't watched him much last season beforehand.

I'd like to see him play Chelsea or City in the Champions League to get another look at him against familiar opposition.

Yeah he was rushed back from injury, having missed the first match against us. He was one of their better players but overshadowed by Anderson in probably Anderson's best game last season.

I dont see that as a slight on Banega though as Anderson was fantastic. I mean there have been games where Anderson has arguably played better than Gerrard and Fabregas, it doesnt exactly mean they arent good players.

Remember? Two of the best young midfielders out there ;) But I agree that the Banega we saw against Barca was on a class on his own.

Surely SAF knows this guy is good and could run United's midfield and help inch that gap against Barca and other midfields, so I must wonder if the player himself does not desire to play in England, and hence no bids made.

If he has a top season I could actually see him ending up at Barca, despite the players they have in midfield. He'd fit them like a glove.

I felt in the past few windows that Banega would probably be Barcelona's backup plan if they didnt get Fabregas. But they never went for him and now they have Fabregas, I cant see them going for another midfielder like him

Are you having a feckin laugh? Have you forgot that we have Carrick in our team?

He is everything we need, and imo he is all we need to make us a serious threat to Barca or Real in the CL.

We seem to be going in the diretion (finally) of using mobile midfielders in the centre. A major factor in our early form in my opinion. It's not my final opinion on Banega though as a) I've not seen enough of him and b) I can see how good he is in other aspects of the game.

Yep. He'd also relish having those mobile players giving options in front of him. Hernandez making runs behind the defence, Rooney always finding space around the box, the likes of Cleverley and Anderson linking with team mates around the box, Young's off the ball movement and Nani being so dangerous when he gets the ball to feet in a wider area

It would be like a fat kid in a candy store

But who knows if Sir Alex wants that kind of player taking authority in finding our dangerous players like that. We dont have anyone who does that as well as the likes of Scholes right now, Carrick used to have a bit of that to his game and we dont see too much of it right now. Instead we've had Anderson and Cleverley both come in and to some extent they are both doing it, Cleverley a bit more cautiously to retain a little better. So Sir Alex might be comfortable keeping it that way

If he's picked to start tonight it will be an oppertunity to showcase his ability against a tough english side. He wasnt amazing against us, but he's been in form recently so we'll see if Emery goes with him and how he does.
