Do you want the ESL to happen?

There's going to be legal issues with this. Players being banned from playing for their country because of decisions made by their clubs will cause all sorts of issues.

Yeah, I don't think FIFA can win that battle.

How can you ban a player from playing for his country over something his employer has done?
The players are, I imagine, legally obliged to play for their teams. They can't say, well we aren't playing for you anymore because of this ESL thing

The only way I can see this working is if the national FAs agree not to pick players from clubs who play in the ESL. Then it becomes much more difficult for the players to really do anything. Can a court dictate to the manager who he should pick? Now my mind is going to stuff like "constructive dismissal" and "legitimate expectation of being picked" but where do you draw the line?

If the FA bends and selects say Harry Kane for the WC and FIFA says that Kane can't play. That is some murky waters.

Well as we stand UEFA are suing the clubs banning them from domestic and European competitions and also banning them from international duty . It’s in their own interests to come to an agreement or they’re fecked with shit domestic and European leagues .

I’m not sitting on any high horse , you said you’re done I said bye . I’ll still follow Utd whatever happens. If that means a SL so be it.
Then you're an even bigger idiot than I thought.

Why? They just qualified for CL football!

West Ham 9 points clear in the lead should the big 6 get kicked out and their matches scrubbed from the records. Never thought we could win the league, even in a situation like this. Sure we will still manage to Keegan even that though!

Reckon we may as well merge with City and win this.

Ederson
Cancelo Dias Maguire Shaw
Rodri
De Bruyne Fernandes
Foden Greenwood Pogba

You jest, but there will probably be some kind all-star game every year.

I was against it but actually, what should I care about as a consumer? Some random club like Burnley who might struggle or my own pocket?

Im torn the more I think of it, for the sake of argument, imagine Amazon get exclusive rights and all games are shown on prime. I’m immediately saving a shed load of money and so I’d say, as selfish as it is, I don’t care about Burnley I care about me not being fleeced by BT and Sky.
It won't be long before your Amazon games are moved to PPV

Everyone here needs to take a deep breath and think about it. If the clubs continue their domestic leagues and a ESL instead of Champions League (especially those meaningless boring group matches), it might not be as bad as it is perceived. A tier 2 competition for clubs that can’t make it to ESL...

There was a thread on here the other week saying "how good are we in Europe compared to other sides?". Well now we're going to find out!
I had us between 11 and 16 (so lower midtable given Bayern and PSG aren't currently in) and I doubt the club will now have any motivation to improve on that with no risk of losing CL money for not being in the top 4. I honestly won't be watching anyway if this happens but you seem excited, I guess this will largely succeed or fail on if there are enough people like you and fans who don't like it in theory but will watch anyway.

I don't get this killing the league. It seems to me this is like an alternative European competition? I'm truly confused.

Because what happens in terms of teams not in a title race. Lets say Arsenal are 10th after 19 games with no potential top 4 to keep them interested or without having to qualify for the money league. They just stop playing and focus on the ESL, the big 6 no longer have to quality for the money. They could get relegated to the championship and still play the top European competition next season.

It is but there’s no incentive in the league anymore when the top 6 are all guaranteed entry in the super league. We could finish 17th next season but who cares when we’re already qualified for Europe with £200m coming our way.

Would you do the same in their position? Offered the chance to play in a super league with the best teams, crazy money on offer. Life changing for yourself personally and professionally? All based on Sky sports pushing a narrative and the FA making a threat they can't follow through with?

Well. If I was as rich as Pep and Klopp are, absolutely.

This isn't simply going to be a tournament. The guaranteed slot format means that motivation in domestic leagues goes out the window.

That’s the risk but it’d have to explode to even get near what you pay for Sky! Prime is what £7.99 a month and if you do simple stuff (vitality health link up)you can basically get it free already.

The richest clubs in the world aren’t happy with the money they’re currently getting.
Imagine the bidding war for the rights to the top clubs in Europe playing week in, week out.

Now, how do you think the winning broadcaster will pay for these rights?

I've been wondering this. I've got a fair few questions I've not been able to really get any answer or at least discussion on.

This doesn't mean the CL and Europa stop, does it? The 'elite' wouldn't be in it and it may not be 'as' prestigious but could this not mean that different teams now make up those competitions?

Would a Southampton fan really hate the idea of a European night against Roma? Surely they would get increased TV and match day revenue. Maybe not to the extent the current CL clubs do but its still a European night isn't it?

There are Europa League teams who have never had a sniff at the CL but I'm sure it doesn't mean their fans haven't had some great trips and memories as part of that competition.

Could it potentially mean we have 3 European style competitions now and suddenly fans of a lot of clubs get the chance to start making European history of their own?

I'm glad looking on here, twitter etc. the number of people for it is tiny, means nothing, but it's good that we're mostly all united.
Agree. I would say that 90% of fans from these clubs don't want this and actually want Premier League and UEFA to do some drastic moves, even if it means from tommorow.

It was going to happen eventually but this is such a weird situation where none of the direct parties involved in it are exactly good and I feel no sympathy for any of them.

Premier League the loose cannon capitalists they are, whining they’re getting their cut reduced, UEFA the corrupt assholes they are, whining they’re getting their cut reduced. FIFA are the ultimate sketchy organisation for sure especially after the 2022 World Cup debacle. The clubs involved being greedy assholes. Sky in the UK are crying about these rich asshole billionaires despite spending years with their tongues up their asses saying how great it is to have these foreign owners make the league what it is. All of them have contributed to what we see now.

The PL will cave into letting the big 6 competing in the PL in my opinion. The PL sponsors that will jump ship if they ban them will be very noticeable. The PL and the FA need those big 6 a lot more than the big 6 need them.

Sadly, true.
However my point is people will care most about what they pay and even if every game is ppv, people will be happy if they are spending less overall.

You’ll care when you start realising how vapid, meaningless and cynical this new league is.

When facing Real or Barca means absolutely feck all to either set of fans it might make a dent.

Not one fan will be allowed entrance on ESL match days because me and tens of thousands of fans like me will be blocking all entrances.

ps not believing for one second that this ESL will come to pass, but for these cnuts to use our club like this is a fcuking disgrace.

I’ll be right next to you mate

Are we talking around 23 games all season if we are banned from all domestic stuff? Or If not banned from domestic 70+ games? VDB might get 15 minutes here.

I don't think alienating the rest of the smaller clubs is a good thing and the greed is ridiculous but....

Every year when it comes to champions league I'd hear people saying how good it would be if x team actually played x team whilst the teams are in their prime form but don't end up playing each other at all.

It would be refreshing to see the big guns actually battle it out each season to see who truly was the best out of a strong bunch but then when it comes to the actual winning of the cup it might be not that special because cup upsets by smaller teams are the best experience imo.

Bit like Leicester winning the prem.

I'd just prefer to keep the current format though. Arsenal will be the meme club of the decade. Play rubbish in prem but get have an automatic place in the big league.

Well. If I was as rich as Pep and Klopp are, absolutely.

This isn't simply going to be a tournament. The guaranteed slot format means that motivation in domestic leagues goes out the window.

Does it? Why? The format supports the domestic calendar, just like the current Champions League does. Do teams in the Champions League just not have the motivation to win their domestic league?

Kai Havertz has been quoted as calling this idea a disgrace. We better hear from the two greatest players of our time; Messi and Ronaldo and their condemnation of this. They are the icons of world football, they need to stand up and let their voices be heard.

@crossy1686 you're so disconnected from reality, it is unreal.

The PL will be worthless. The history and tradition of the game will be gone. We'll be in a competition by default, killing the competition and removing any excitement. This will lose it's shine within a few years as it will become monotonous. You'll never see an underdog go and win it. Us and a few others will be so rich that the smaller PL teams will be left in the dust. Players like Grealish won't play for teams like Villa.

This is just the start too. Eventuality the teams will decide to leave domestic competition as the gap between ESL teams and the rest becomes so big. The other teams probably won't even want us around in the PL, which will be a important as the League Cup after this.
