Question, from a purely sporting perspective.

How do you generate motivation from teams playing other teams that are languishing near the bottom half of this Super League, given that relegation or exit isn't a thing?

Because there will be a small minority of teams playing in an exclusive tournament where the money will be eye watering compared to what's available elsewhere. If you perform poorly for long enough, there'll be plenty of top players happy to take your place. And if you're not one of the players in that exclusive league then no sponsor will want to touch you.

I think people are underestimating the drop in value and wages that will be paid if the top 6 leave the PL. Who on earth is paying to watch a top of the table clash between West Ham and Leicester?

Probably worth asking fans of American sports? I’ve asked before and they say it’s just going through the motions once play offs aren’t a question.

And then there's the college draft which means that the worst performing NBA teams in their conferences get the best pick of the best college players. It's literally a reward for being shittier than everyone else. I mosey around US Sports forums and fans of teams playing badly often will their own team to brick it in every single game so they can get the best draft pick. It literally rewards poorer performance!

I've always maintained that's why, from a spectacle standpoint, our relegation based system is better because teams at the bottom have something to play for. There's motivation to perform well.

You absolute gobshite. I'm sat on the sofa next to my wife and her mother.

:lol::lol: I thought it was just a bad version of the Champions League theme and didn't even realize what it was until I saw this.

Be pretty funny if whoever wins the Champions League this season pulls an Alundra Blayze moment and throws the trophy in the bin on the debut episode of European Super League Nitro.

This is the funniest thing I've read today.

While this is true it stops the richest teams hording all the best players. We all moaned about Chelsea's 60 man squad, this is the alternative. American sports are far feom perfect, but there are lessons there for football to learn.

Brilliant. Burying the competition!

Fecking hell, the Super League has not even been announced, yet has already ruined a couple of marriages.

... This has made me do a 180, I'm feckin' IN!

Is Mourinho planning this, since Spurs got an invite?

If this turns out to be a thing, wth? Did the class of 92 know this and bought "the new United" so we could change team?
Can you change team if the team you support decides to start competing in some other league you've never heard of?

Will RedCafe convert to a Salford City forum? I got so many questions.

They only got the invite because of Jose

Laporta just gave an interview saying that he'd rather have a club world cup than a super league.

I'm totally confused atm.

I think the PL clubs involved should be very wary. If you follow the money the PL is becoming, by far, the richest league in the world and some of the other leagues realize this and don't want to miss out. I wouldn't be surprised if the Italian, La Liga and Bundesliga clubs are the ones pushing this so they can get in on more lucrative TV contracts. If things stay the same more and more of the best players and coaches will end up in England. These other clubs are probably very concerned about this and the super league would balance things out for them.

I follow the NHL closely and the NHL draft is the most exciting time of the year outside the Stanley cup Playoffs.

For those that don't know how a draft works:

At the end of every season there is a draft lottery, in which the lowest ranked team has the highest chance of being awarded first pick in the first round, ie. get's to pick and sign the biggest talent of the year. 2nd worst team gets 2nd pick, and so on. It goes on for a few rounds, in the NHL its typically 7, everyone drafts players and thus re-stock their talent pool.

It does reward poor performance, but coupled with a salary cap it also means that team success is cyclical since at some point the previous best teams are full of expensive contracts for aging stars, or the overall roster is too old and it starts a rebuild. The NHL is so dominant in the sport of Hockey that it works, even if its an international sport. In football, this would never, ever fly.

The German clubs have declined to sign up to this, along with the French.

Allegedly Bayern are not part of the group according to Sky but who knows.
