Do you want the ESL to happen?

The way this appears to be heading I don't think the 14 in the PL (or UEFA) can, no, it's the only leverage they have. The six English clubs involved in this super league probably owe the rest of football hundreds of millions in staged payments on transfer deals relating to appearances in these competitions. If they're kicked out for breaching the rules then suddenly all of the clubs owed money have serious recourse for litigation and claiming these transfer payments under breach of contract at a time when the 6's income will be badly impacted while the ESL is being set up. The UK broadcasters will want to sue somebody...whoever they initially go after, the lawsuits will ultimately end up at the feet of these six PL clubs. Likewise, if you ban players from tournaments that puts them at direct odds with their clubs. Are Nike going to pay Harry Kane all of his sponsorship deal if he's not at the Euros etc? In that scenario you then have Harry Kane and his agent at odds with Tottenham's board and pushing for compensation from them potentially. Suddenly the £300m gift payment isn't so attractive. If the 14 in the PL and UEFA ceed ground at this point and allow them to remain in the competitions then their leverage is severely diminished and the six will find a way to go at their convenience, we've already seen that they have no regard for the other clubs involved. I hope any Utd fan that's against this backs the PL14 in kicking them out and not take it personally.
On what grounds will the 14 actually kick them out? They dont want to participate in CL and want to play in their own league. Other 14 are free to play in CL organised by UEFA. Nothing is changed in domestic league. If they try to kick out, courts will overrule them and most of the litigation will actually end up on these 14 clubs.

They need the CL money, but not the CL winners pot. We have generally invested more when finishing outside the top 4 than in. That won't matter anymore. They will try and spend big year one, imagine most of the initial entrants will, and then spending will slowly dry up.
You would think we'd spend more money the lower we are on the table. That's basic sense. For us t be low it means its a crisis.

Part of me feels that if they actually scrapped Arsenal and Tottenham from the whole thing (they haven't really done anything to be there), left 10 'founding clubs' as permanent members and added 14 clubs based on merit on top of this (invited based on their league position), way more people would be on board with this.

Disagree about Arsenal being put in the same category as Tottenham

Then someone will have to found another club and feck what has become Manchester United.
Was done with FC Utd and that hasn’t turned out as badly as some predicted.
If you still want to be invested in a football club then grass roots is the way to go. I get as much pleasure watching my son play U12s as any Utd game, so I’ll go with that.

If you haven’t got a kid, I wouldn’t recommend just turning up at a kids game though ;)

From a sporting perspective, they absolutely are in the same category. In fact, Spurs have been generally better over the last five years or so.

More PR. Every club knew what was going to happen. This is just face saving measure to blame the select few. After all the English press is already decided who the bigger culprit is and who was the saviour of Englisg football.

I'd say Gothenberg are raging at not getting the invite.

That's what i wrote didnt i? Not sure what is so wrong that you are going off. My response was for suggestion that only proper fan view should be taken into consideration. Maybe see what the conversation was on about before jumping to conclusion?

I want UEFA and FA to get fecked because of how they handled the situation of PSG and Man City. One club suddenly buys 400m worth of players in one summer using Oil money and they make that guy part of UEFA decision making body. FA was fine with Russian Oligarchs and Monarchies to buy football club and apparently every other club should welcome competition against bottomless pit of money. But as much as I want to see FA and UEFA ( and FIFA who apparently wants a similar league for Africa) to get fecked, I don't want this ESL.
But you said the only problem is the lack of relegation for founder teams, I read that as you saying it's a minor issue. You also said you want to see more exciting matches in European competition, how do you propose that happens?

I will probably carry on watching football on TV, just not United. Maybe all the players should put in transfer requests or see if their contracts are now binding. Would they have to sign new contracts as in a different league. I would laugh if their contract are voided and they just all walk out.

They have been pretty average for the last 15 years though. Historically a much bigger club of course but still a tier below the others in that group, having not won EC/CL in their history (I know City haven't either but they are obscenely rich of course).

Neville can do one for me, having been complacent to the Glazers my god it´s been difficult to watch this lot ranting about the clubs they have been waxing lyrical about for years.
It was all fun and games when these clubs brought in millions and players to go with it, I mean City at one point looked like the main subway hub in Manchester with people coming and going like there was no tomorrow.

That was all good because it made the league more attractive players bought for 50m+ was last weeks news and all was well. The FA, the lawmakers and the broadcasters are even more to blame than these owners in my book because the agenda for the Glazers for example was always clear it was to make money and turn that club into a money making machine, but this lot turned a blind eye towards this and never opened up any scenario where these clubs would want more share off the pie due to their size and fan base all over the world.

This should have been dealt with years ago, these owners have already taken the game from the fans. Coming out now with a gasp of surprise how and why this lot would do something like this is pathetic really. There should have been a law implemented when the clubs were being sold left right and center to involve the fans and to give them a voting right in every major decision because otherwise the owners could do what they wanted with these institutions, clubs going under left right and center like Leeds, Portsmouth didn´t that ring any bells that maybe the system in place didn´t hold any water at all. The fact is clubs aren´t like any other company and what these American owners don´t get is that the franchise model in America won´t work for European fans.

Gary at least kind of admitted his guilt but for me it´s all to easy and way too late this scenario shouldn´t have been a surprise to anyone at all..
So he should just shut up?

I’m glad he’s being so vocal and hopefully many more will follow him

I'm no admirer of UEFA and I thought their plans for the CL were stupid and they clearly didn't address what the big clubs/markets needed. They did indeed forget who is paying for the party. That said, this SL concept is far worse.

A glorified invitation cup calling itself Super and looking enviously at the global gaming market to replace actual fans? And hat if they actually did pull this off - dragged a few more teams into the mire with them - how sustainable is that?

In reality, a whole bunch of the biggest names in football would have nothing to play for by Christmas. Without the novelty value (which is after all, all this is about) Spurs v AC Milan wont mean much, with these structures quite rapidly we'll reach the same point with United v Real Madrid. Initially it'll sounds like the clasico on steroids - play these matches all the time and they're just games. They won't even have the novelty value of playing a Leeds or a Burnley and being pushed to the wire by a local rival who "you should beat".

I don't see the attraction as a matchgoer and season ticket holder. The clubs don't care about their legacy fans? Fair enough, I'll save my money and not care then.

Having the so called top 20 clubs( whom ever they may be) doesn’t guarantee exciting matches. With no relegation or promotion it will just become like the MLB or NFL where if you’re bottom and shite so be it, there’ll just be an overhaul of staff and players and support for you to get major players the following season.
A draft in football for the ESL is the next step

Where will they draft players from though. We don't have a college system here. Any players belong to other professional teams.

Well a lot of clubs hit the wall in how much they can increase their income so I understand why they want this (Italian clubs and Barca once they lose Messi) but clearly this is from Perez + US owners of PL clubs who have different ideas about sports. And to some extent I can't blame them. They need £600m income for £15m profit. That's absolutely ridiculous but maybe instead they should have worked towards wages limit because let's be honest 95% of players are idiots, no chance they could get a job where they earn even 2-3% of their current wages.

What happened to all the talk of kicking us out? Why offer the clubs a way back? Could it be, that without Real, Barca, United, Liverpool and Juve, your product (let’s be real that’s what the CL and EL are to UEFA) is worthless to TV and sponsors?

This is the same gutless UEFA that’s allowed City and PSG to circumvent FFP with ease and showed the world that in court, they couldn’t even enforce their own rules.

So the founding teams never get relegated or removed from the league regardless of performance. Whats to stop them just sending out the reserves each time and collecting the paycheck? What are the goals for the players? Winning the league and the champions league? Not anymore dont need to worry about winning the league or finishing top 4 as they are guarenteed into the ESL each season. Imagine United sitting 7th in the League at Xmas, whats the incentive for the players to go out and put everything on the line each week? Then the money associated with it all as well, the rest of the league cant compete with the sums these teams are allegedly making. Then for any future transfers the price will be extorinate for these super clubs (and arsenal).

I would highly doubt they would be sending reserve teams out, they dont do that in the champions league so why would they start in its replacement? The Super League would not be happy with that, as it would have an affect on the money coming in, so that would simply not happen. The goals for the players would be the same as they are when participating in the champions league, to win the competition. Teams and players are not suddenly going to not care or not want to win the league just because they are in a new european competition. The league will be just as important as ever. Teams that are not founder teams will want a piece of the pie if this does go ahead, so will do all they can on the field to qualify. People seem to skip past the fact that there are open spots for teams to qualify and participate in this competition.

Personally, I think if this does go ahead, we will see some rework to the openness of the competition to appease fans.

I doubt that as it seems Woody and the Glaziers are apparently running the show. United pulls out and it’s all over, so yeah I hope they do.
I have no doubt that the Glazers are in contact with FSG. These are major franchise owners in the USA. They have to have held talks

Joel Glazer and Perez are like dogs with a bone. They wont give this up and the others will gain confidence from that. The b*stards.
