European Super League

Do you want the ESL to happen?

Because Manchester United don't belong in the EL, we should play CL football every year. End of. Real Madrid and Barcelona would never let that happen to them. We shouldn't pay for our management's incompetence.
No we shouldn't be guranteed anything. What an entitled, selfish, narrow minded post.

After winning like 8 in a row? Is it that beautiful?

The beauty is a team can look completely dominant like Juve did, and I agree winning it 8 in a row is way too much and an issue in itself, but if they don't play well and they get the wrong manager things can change.

With this Super League they're guaranteed a place forever.

I couldn't give shit about SKY and it's "pundits" crying about this. Where were they when Russian oligarchs, Chinese consortium and Arab monarchies were busy buying clubs? This ESL is down to FA and UEFA. If you force a club to compete with bottomless pit of money then they will do something to protect themselves. After all most of the money made in England and Europe is because of these clubs

Exactly all this outrage is too little, too late I'm afraid. It should have happened before Roman, before the Glazers and definitely before Abu Dhabi bought City.

I don't remember such an outcry when Chelsea and City basically paid oil money to buy the title. How is it different this time? At least now we will be able to compete with them financially with the ESL cash.

Because as much as I hate that they did that, there's an enormous difference between that and the ESL thing. Chelsea and City didn't turn the football world on its head and cause irreversible gamewide upheaval that completely changed the fundamental way that the sport works. They just spent a lot of money on players. It's like asking why World War 2 was any different from the Brazilian Revolution of 1930. Both were armed conflicts, right?

How can someone be so entitled and selfish??? If we can’t qualify, we are not good enough. Are you saying Southampton or Villa shouldn’t be able to play in CL because they don’t have the kind of history we do? This is against competition, fair play and so sickening I can’t even express my thoughts properly. Unless this is sarcasm, which would make more sense.

It’s amazing that this even needs to be explained. The fecking entitlement disgusts me.

It is funny because one minute some people call other teams plastic, then the next they want to join the most plastic closed shop football competition someone could dream up.

Except doing that lead to this. This hasn’t happened in a vacuum.

Nah unfortunately he's serious.

Some of the most exciting, exhilarating times I had in Old Trafford were when we were chasing records in the 2nd division. We deserved to be down there, and that season's journey made that team.

And 'deserve'? Notts Forest have won more European Cups than Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Spurs combined.

Don't they 'deserve' a place too?

One think I´m absolutely sure about, Ole must hate this idea from core of his bones.

But my point was that guarenteed European football doesn't seem to slow others down. They got to a CL final, won the league and went on to buy Ronaldo for 100m.
I just cant buy into the complacency angle.

He hasn't had a problem with any of this until just before we kicked off yesterday.

He's been part of Sky's pundit team for the best part of 10 years and had a weekly show TV since 2014 and a podcast for all of at least this season. You'd think it would have come up on the odd occasion during that time, especially given how passionately he's arguing about it this evening.

He has though. Cos someone referenced an article from May last year when he brought it up so I don't get how you're saying it only happened yesterday? Seems an odd narrative to take where there is proof He has brought it up.

But that's the whole point. If you're team and the people you employ are good enough you earn a place.

If you're just in a competition because you thing you 'belong' there, what do you think the chances of you winning that competition are?
Just look at "location" and you'll get it. This is a big difference of cultures when it comes to sport.

I don't think it would be far from that number.

I think you're talking bollox to be fair.

What's worse is some fairly ropey teams in terms of CL qualification are being guaranteed a spot in the Super league forever.

At least those that make it in to the CL regularly now at least have to earn it via their league position every single year.

People arguing that since UEFA are hardly reputable that somehow that diminishes the arguments against the Super League.

It's a closed competition not based on merit vs. A competition that is at least open to all.

UEFA not being pure isn't a fecking reason to support a franchise model designed to exclude everyone who isn't deemed elite.

Give me a break.

When I read this, I don’t know whether to reply seriously or feel pity for low intelligence.

This typical extremism and attempts to boil things down to soundbites by agents like yourself gave us Brexit, Trumpism and enduring stupidity.

You could clearly see what Klopp thinks about it from the interview, that is something.

But it was a weak interview overall. He's in the same position as Ole and Tuchel. He hates it but is choosing to punt it into the long grass rather than risk losing his job mid season.
There is not a prayer Liverpool would sack Klopp.

If the Super League angers Liverpool fans then sacking Klopp for disagreeing with the Super League would have them tearing down the gates at Anfield.

Good for you mate.

If you think us having a guaranteed place in the Super League no matter what, won't lead to complacency with the Glazers then I don't know what to tell you. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Most managers and players would protect their self-interest first, way above the fans. Most of us would do the same if we were them.

 at the posters thinking we have some divine right to play in the CL each year. Have any of you watched our team post SAF? Load of shite we’ve been; all thanks to the geniuses in charge who’ve destroyed anything remotely enjoyable about United or football in general.

So you immediately proceed to talk in soundbites.

Yeah sorry you're right

One of the absolute worst posts I've ever read on here, don't mean yours by the way

Everton fans should follow his logic, their trophy cabinet pre 90s is impressive, they are one of the big clubs if we stop the clock at 1990. I don't think that they should be sanctioned for poor management, give them a CL spot and an ESL spot too.

Steve Parish said one sentence which means a lot. " Why would we ban top 6 from PL? They don't want to leave PL".

Our owners don't care, we're run very differently to most other top teams, its a so obviously a business first. They will invest even less now would be my guess, why should they invest more? They don't care about winning the thing.

I'd be interested to see what Americans think of this.

I watch a lot of American sports so the concept of no promotion/relegation isn't really that alien to me and I love watching stuff like NFL, NHL and NBA. The constant repeat fixtures isn't really something that bothers me because I'm used to it from watching the various American leagues/sports.

Ah yeah, we deserve it, regardless of how shite we've been for the better part of the past decade. We're Man United after all, european royalty. You'll never wa... wait, that's wrong, isn't it? Not so sure nowadays.

Liverpool were shit from 2009 to about 2017 too, would they have belonged in the CL then? Do Arsenal and Tottenham? Didn't Leicester belong there in spite of winning the league?

Because thats how it is now, congratulations! It's people like you who make stuff like this possible. The level of entitledness matches the likes of Ed, Perez and co.

Have fun with your elitist league

I really hope the players make a stand. These 12 teams, but more importantly their owners specifically, are trying to break the whole football game and make the rules in their vision.

It's all about monopolising the money streams in the globalised world.

Spoiler alert, they won't...

Then fecking earn it. Because if you're not qualifying for the CL it means you're not good enough and don't deserve to be there.

These arguments go out of the window when you have teams like City, PSG and Chelsea that "earned" it by winning a lottery and got bought by sugar daddies.

Pre oil clubs I'd take that argument. Now? No way.

The whole situation is shit.

It is always the fans who suffer in this, I detest the Glazers, but I also hate UEFA, FIFA etc. as they are part of the problem.
