Do you want the ESL to happen?

Well arguably Spurs had a bigger fanbase than Marseille even in 2004 even though they were a bit shit, the economic potential of the Premier League has always been massive just like the global fanbase.

Frankly it'd be nearly impossible for those two teams to get the very best players unless they are purchased by someone in the Forbes Top 50 even if in theory the quite ridiculous idea that all of the ESL clubs had to give up all their players would happen. The CL price money wouldn't be enough without the biggest teams from the biggest leagues.

Argubaly where? Marseille are the most supported club in France.

In fairness to the Glazers they have always been clear that its only about the money.

Fans of some of the other clubs in the Super Six sound a bit like they’ve arrived home and found the missus in bed with their worst enemy.

Here we go again, another slaughterpiece signed Carra and Neville being streamed out for free to reach the masses :boring:
You sound like co-funders himself of the eventuall plastic league in your posts but your missing knowledge of football history is not a looking good. Instead of understanding concept of football and heritage and tradition of the football in England you are just going on about how UEFA / FIFA and everyone else is wrong. Before you decide to comment on this or even if you don't think for a second why you are Manchester United supporter. Wich I suppose you are. Is it gloryhunting? Or is it something else.

To be expected. The likes of JPMorgan don't get involved without some serious heavyweight legal experts checking everything beforehand. UEFA probably didn't expect the sheer brazenness by these clubs to actually break away.

Surely UEFA/FIFA imposing any ban will pretty much make the league go ahead.

Likewise any national leagues impose bans and it won't just be a mid week CL replacement it'll be a 38 game league instead.

Shouldn't they tread carefully?

I'd be interested to see which group of fans are in favour of the Super League. It seems the English fans are almost unanimously against it, but are fans in Europe or further abroad more favourable of the idea?

Rumours that Paul Gascoigne is on his way to UEFA HQ with a chicken, lager and a fishing rod to help resolve the situation.

The Duke is a Villa fan, he's goin to fix this.

Has someone notified Her Majesty the Queen about a threat to her Kingdom from Ed Woodward? I'm sure she has some powers left to her.

In Norway the King has power to do absolutely anything he wants without criminal persecution.

Time to refurbish some dwellings in The Tower of London.

To be played at the exact same times as the national leagues each week:

Imagine the choice -
Sat 3pm Real Madrid v Man United in the ESL or West Ham v Burnley in th EPL
Sat 5pm Juventus v Barcelona or Bilbao v Seville
Sat 7pm Liverpool v AC Milan or Cagliari v Atalanta

Fans in Norway absolutely loathe this. Every supporter group here have been VERY vocally opposed to this.

Our own football association have come out and said they support the UEFA and will even stand behind them if they ban our own players from competing with the national team.

As usual, the truth is somewhat in the middle. No, lawyers can't guarantee anything but sometimes it can be clear cut. Such as companies knowing that the fine they'll get will be less than the profit they made by breaking some rule.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

There will be legal challenges to this, from both sides and that creates uncertainty, both in terms of the outcome and timescales in getting it resolved. Uncertainty potentially impacts, in this instance, the ability to generate income for clubs who I suspect can't afford to see such streams interrupted.

Los Angeles-based Arsenal podcaster Jessica Black, from The She Knows podcast, told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I wish we were talking under different circumstances. Watching sports in America you can easily turn it off and turn it back on. When your team isn't doing well - because there isn't a lot of jeopardy, you can turn it off.

"The difference between American sports and English football is that jeopardy. The feeling anyone can do something magical. Those stories don't exist in American sport and that is why I love watching English sport. It is more sterile in America and I hate to see English football if that is what we are looking at in the future.

"I don't want to see Arsenal in some closed leagues, where it doesn't matter if we lose or we win. The American owners are having a hard time upholding the expectation of the fans. Arsenal fans have never felt less of a priority than they do now. This is the straw that broke the camel's back. The nail in the coffin, the club feel further away to the club than ever before and I don't think the Kroenke's care. A lot of fans will slip through the cracks."

That's the biggest problem recognized in the US fan as well. It's just not right that a team could finish 9th and slip ahead of West Ham and Leicester in 3rd and 4th and it also unfairly cements Arsenal as some go to club over others becasue they have this special entry to the SL, therefore the likes of West Ham who have a difficult time holding on to players are just not eligible and shifts these players to the so called big six more so. West Ham players have a real hope and dream of entering the CL this year, it's the drive even if it doesn't happen often and the despair for anyone when you don't make it.

I'll be honest, what did people expect. I don't think some of these big clubs are and have been marginalized, not necessarily by just UEFa, but in England the FA. From the transfer bans to making examples of the players, to the insistence on the carabao cup, to the not taking champions league fixtures into account that ole is consistently complaining about, the punishments for questioning referee decisions, how var was captured, the pay per views by companies like sky yet without increased club revenues and the lack of a winter break.

Then add covid, where finances were crippled, yet the leagues and governing bodies still maintained status quo, despite receiving millions of revenues from these clubs, without aiding in any way. What service do these bodies provide these clubs with outside of creating the competitions. Then to add insult to injury talks of expanding a competition that already exhausts their players and reduces the revenues gained from participation.

That's good to hear, I don't get which set of fans they think will be excited about this then. Maybe they don't mind because they know many will probably begrudgingly watch it after a while.

Why are they booing the players who have got nothing to do with this. :wenger:
They need to demonstrate somehow. I don't blame them, hopefully it fires up players to collectively take a stand too.

Right, and booing the men who had nothing to do with it is great optics...

They are the physical representation of the club. So the optics are: "We disagree with what You, Liverpool, are doing"

You're insinuating that the fans protest outside some executives office? That'll do a lot. At worst they have to get noise cancelling headphones.

What did the players and the coaching staff do to deserve that?! It wasn't even their decision.
I know, people expecting staff and players to walk out are deluded. Yet these fully grown men giving them abuse will all watch the Qatar world cup and would all welcome a Saudi Prince takeover. Extremely hypocritical to say the least.

And the players can just do the same you know?

I don't think this notion by the poster you quoted is as unrealistic as you argued. I'm not saying it applies all the time but there'll be plenty of cases where companies do something exactly because they know the legislation allows it.

They were never going to risk this if they hadn't already checked that they had the judicial system on their side

How about putting that whiskey bottle down for a second before you start typing nonsense and going on about how the great country of England has heritage and tradition in football.

Do you think I live in a cave? Do you think that my tiny country doesn't have any football pedigree? Do you know what we have? We have a 50+1 percent rule.

You sold your heritage and tradition for 5 pieces of silver when you started to let Abramovich, Mansour, Glazers, Kroenkes, FSG etc in the hen house so don't start with that tripe.

I've already said that I don't particularly endorse the super league, but football today is basically all about money anyway so I really don't see how it makes a massive difference compared to the new Champions League format starting in 2024.

It's just a battle between the clubs and UEFA over money. All there is to it.

Do you know why english clubs are so big in scandinavia? I suppose you don't really considering how you come across.

It was the first teams to ever be shown on telly in the 70s. My father is a fan, I am a fan. Take that gloryhunting tripe and stick it somewhere else tbh. You support a club with supporters from all around the world. Deal with it or go support FCUM full time.

Fair enough to be honest. The players and managers represent their clubs. They need to be left with absolutely no doubt how every fan in this country feels. Including their own fans.

Nowhere to hide on this.

Fair points
