What, you mean he knows it's a ridiculous comparison that every football fan will laugh about, but nevertheless thinks that saying it is going to increase Martial's value? If so, he's just as stupid, just in a different way.
Meh, in his eyes Martial is an asset so of course he'll shamelessly make an exaggerated comparison to praise his player.

This attack on players frm Ceferin i pathetic and non legal. The have contracts with those clubs. Will he/uefa give them wages and rebuy them from clubs?

In Ligue 1 only, you have Pinault, Ratcliffe, Rybolovlev, Seydoux and QSI, Marseille are supposed to be sold but McCourt is still there and could see a new opportunity. In Germany you obviously have already big clubs such as Bayern and Dortmund but also Leipzig, then you have all the clubs owned by big companies like Wolfsburg and Leverkusen who now can see the CL sky. That's without talking about Porto, Benfica, Roma, Napoli or Ajax.

Mid to long term, Football doesn't start or ends with the Super Greedy League, there is a lot of clubs with history and potential outside of that league.

To be realistic, no one will pay to watch Marseille vs Wolfsburg, even though they are decently supported teams. There is a massive gap between the top teams and the ones below.

The Champions League these days are just about seeing the best superstars of the game. It will drop massively even with those teams mentioned featuring such is the appeal of the giants.

I still think this will get settled somehow though. UEFA will budge.

Something I can't wrap my head around , why these dumbspiracy leaders announced it in the business end of the season, when titles and cups are being chased , and not immediately after? Now they are risking the trophies they are about to win as well, effectively rendering the work of their players useless. They really don't care about any of this don't they? Probably view their own players as mindless automatons.

That much has been made clear if the quotes from the insider about them being fine with players being held back from international duty because it doesn’t give them anything anyway. Either I am way off, or they have NO clue what the international cups and matches mean to players.

According to this article from L'Équipe, it most probably violates the EUs rules about free competition to ban players from participating in the Euros/World Cup for being in the Super League.

Seems a questionable conclusion to me. It's an UEFA tournament. To be eligible, you need a player licence from an UEFA member association. If that license can be revoked or suspended, then so can your eligibility. UEFA has the power to do that for various reasons.

Go on lads!

Not really surprised that Perez and Joel Glazer have got their fingers right in the centre of this pie. Imagine how the protests in the early 2000's around the Glazers would have gone if we any idea the impact he would try to force whilst being here. Scumbags, the lot of them.

Regardless of whether this goes through or not, I believe there will be catastrophic repayments to be had for every club that has signed up for it, whilst it may sting a little to start a new season with deducted points, I would back anything that also punishes these money hogging sponges!

Part of me is surprised Raiola isn't implemented in this project somewhere, "High agent of the ESL" or something

It's the arrogance of it which gets me. The so called big six have pretty much teamed up and gone "There's only four spots for the top four, we can't all be in it". "I know, let's form a Super League, we'll all become founding members and never have to worry about qualifying".

I saw an Arsenal fan on BBC earlier he wants to see Arsenal play the big clubs and not Slavia Prague. Just pure snobbery, the reason why Arsenal are playing teams like them is because they're not good enough for the Champions League.

If you don't want to see your team play the likes of Cluj and Dinamo Zagreb then don't watch the matches, it's that simple.

Rugby does this all the time. No players playing in France can be in the England squad. Same for New Zealand players playing outside of New Zealand are banned from the national team.

Would be interesting to see this tested in court, there are already loads of instances where it's absolutely accepted.

This.
FIFA can win this easily simply by having the FAs not calling players from those clubs.
Why?
Technical decision by the manager.
Good luck trying to debate into those murky waters :D
I'm sure the English FA are more than happy to go from one of the favorites to outsiders. :smirk:

Scumbags could depict the FA/FIFA/UEFA/ESL etc - they are ALL the same ilk !

If they would they would violate EU law. Which would put them in all kinds of trouble.

Why would the teams, with the best players, be shit in the league? There was a league system before the top 4 was invented.
Why would one of these mega super league clubs be sat in 9th place in their League if they have the best players?

Could this potentially void a players contract? It's quite a change in circumstance that they did not agree to when signing it.

I just don’t understand why they didn’t wait till the season ended to announce this. They’ve shot themselves in the foot here

Aren't many (most?) team sports run on this sort of system at the very top level? All American sports I think, IPL and County in Cricket, Rugby Union in the Celtic Nations, possibly Australia and NZ? Rugby League in the UK (not sure about other countries), etc. Football is the outlier if anything.

And what happens when Argentina say 'feck that - I want Messi, Dybala and co'. Then others will break ranks. Also can you imagine Belgium?! Their golden generation play for these clubs

The thing is it actually already exists in Rugby, almost all the major Rugby association have a policy of not selecting players that are playing abroad. Sometimes there is an exception but what actually happens is that players who wants to play for their country do not take the risk or negotiate individually with their federation. Overall it has been a solid deterrent and international rugby is significantly more important within the game than international football.

How can one take these financial difficulties seriously when Barca for example spent over 100M individually on the likes of Coutinho and Dembele?

That such a document was so easily discovered by someone with little specialist knowledge of coding will be embarrassing to the European Super League. However its underlying message is that the 12 clubs – including six from the Premier League – had no choice but to act because of the financial costs they were facing.

“Over many decades, players and fans have made football more than a game, inspiring passion and drama unique in the world of sport,” the statement begins. “But the game we love is challenged as never before.”

Citing Covid, it warns that the accumulated losses of top-level clubs exceed €5bn (£4.3bn). “The value of live media rights is stagnating or declining as some of our competitions fail to meet the needs of fans and new generations seek entertainment in ways which didn’t exist 10 years ago,” it says.

We know UEFA proposed that the CL will be a league format, with the last 8 progressing on to knock-outs, presumably from March onwards.

If this new proposal turns out to be pretty much the same with the same qualifying criteria as would have existed in the new revamped CL but instead clubs negotiating TV rights for themselves similar to how the PL did back in 1992 when it broke from the FA, and that's all these proposals turn out to be, wouldn't it make the hysterical "DEDUCT 109 POINTS AND CLOSE THE CLUBS DOWN, IT'S THE END OF FOOTBALL!!" - reactions look somewhat ridiculous?

For the record I'm not in favour of these proposals but I don't know what the proposals are. Nobody does. People seem to be getting angry based on the fact the guy who Tweeted before them is angry and if he's angry then they've got to be even angier.

We don't know anything about this except clubs involved. Maybe reaction has been premature?

Imagine Leicester and West Ham finishing 3rd and 4th ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool only to then be told there’s a new league they’re not part of. This whole thing is absolutely disgusting.

Why wouldn't people watch Marseille vs Wolfsburg if these clubs have big players? The point being that these clubs have the local fanbase and could see their current owners invest heavily. Following your logic who was going to watch Spurs vs City in 2004?

UEFA cant even ban u18s from moving. They arent circumventing employment laws

But football is so much more than those shady owners who get shadier the higher one gets up the pyramid. Allowing the top to isolate itself essentially to form a group of elite cnuts just doesn't feel like an improvement to me.
No oh course it’s not an improvement, it’s a nightmare, but if you feed into the system like the FA have done, they can’t really moan when it comes back to bite.

Duke of Cambridge: "I share the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game we love"

I hope when all this is done that people remember this isn't Man Utd doing this, it's the Glazers, if they go, along with all the other owners that should never have been allowed near these clubs, then all this can be forgotten.
