Leicester can still do it though. 6 clubs are just maximizing their revenue potential like United did with their shirt sponsorship (which by itself was a new landmark in terms of shirt sponsorship).
I mean Arsenal are sat in 9th right now so wouldnt even make that. Yet here they are with a guranteed seat at the table. Nothing should be guranteed, it should be earned. They could finish 9th every season from now on and it wouldn't affect them. That has to be damaging for the League, your richest clubs not giving a shit.

All good and well but the guy you're replying to is right. Without the big clubs, the league's are dead. Money from tv rights will dry up and the league's will die. The FA's have literally no choice.

If there are weakened teams, it's an opportunity for small clubs to close the gap right? Isn't UEFA already planning for.a top 6 CL anyway ?

Maybe not, initially. As I said above, City were nobody until someone invested. If the product continues to be of a high quality - and not all players can play in the ESL, it'll still be marketable and watchable. I suspect there are more people abroad tuning into those games than you think.

League rules prohibit clubs from entering non-sanctioned tournaments, so hopefully the so called big 6 will not longer be a part of the league going forward.

^ Exactly top 4 becomes pointless. This season in particular shows how entertaining it can be when one club (City) runs away with the league but still the competition for Champions League places is in flow between like 6-7 others teams. Exciting to watch, now we'll have 6 teams in some European Super League (guaranteed) not arsed about where they finish in the PL unless it's 1st. Playing in a rotation of teams year on year. Non-knockout style.
It's going to be trash. Sucking out so many factors that make games/competition entertaining.

Fair point. Could be argued I guess that agreeing to play in an unsanctioned competition would trigger the same clause, I dunno.
Close what gap? These clubs will be getting a hundred million more than the others every season so can outspend them when signing players, they will have a guranteed spot in this competition that the likes of Leicester and West Ham won't have, it's a rigged game. So Leicester get into the Champions league which is missing the biggest teams and inevitably earn less? There is no scenario where clubs can close the gap, this is a system they've come up to ensure these same 12 teams are all that matters and cannot be replaced.
This is my biggest issue with it honestly, watching Arsenal flail around in mid table and looking forward to them being out of Europe has been a real highlight for me and now the Super League is spoiling my fun.

Imagine clubs come begging FA to come back in the PL, get a no and have the choice between an unpopular ESL, which the players also shun because of repercussions for national team selection, and starting back in the National League. If we’re ever getting rid of the Glazers and getting fan power back this could be how. Only silver lining i see atm...

Leeds, villa and everton are arguably bigger clubs than 3 of the teams going into this super league. They’ll rise to the top again and hopefully Man city and a few others will be forgotten about again. I’m just gutted United are mixed in and pushing it all.

Yes I think. Pes doesn't have the licenses anyway. This would kill the Fifa franchise , they're already losing the battle.

Aren't United getting sponsorships which Leicester can only dream of? Isn't Barca and Real already funded by state ? Doesn't Chelsea and City has unlimited pool of money ? The damage is already done. The small clubs aren't catching up the oil clubs anyway unless they are state funded. Just see this as an additional sponsorship which clubs are getting because of their huge fanbase.
Just watched Neville's podcast, sums it up beautifully. If the ESL were to be a success it would be the status quo for the next 20 years if not longer. Honestly if I were the FA I would be saying to all the clubs, you wanna go go, but you wont be playing in our league or cups. I'm a huge Levy fan but this is just ALL feckING WRONG.
The selfish 6 cannot have this superleage and remain in the EPL, that is something that cannot happen, for the reasons already listed in this thread. Their team selections in midweek would be favoured towards a more lucrative competion, whilst resting players in the EPL where they are not bothered where they finish. This would ruin the integrity and fair play of the league.
I think the line on hope is something that hit me when this was announced. You're just removing hope from any other club. You're taking the biggest teams in the game, removing them from a competition that is deemed the pinnacle of success for the sport and putting them in another league somewhere that no other club can touch? Disgraceful.
