European Super League

Do you want the ESL to happen?

Is that enough?

They should threaten them with immediate and permanent expulsion if they participate in this super league. Combined with access to international football also getting removed, the clubs involved may have a rethink.

Probably right, I just still a bit too attached to the club to see them being expelled all together.

Devil may care said:
The clubs are destroying their own domestic leagues and that will cripple the divisions below them, it's not about good and evil it's about the degrees of the latter, what these clubs are doing is so self centered it's indefensible on any level and worse than UEFA.”

Agree, and I am very sad that Utd are involved in this. It’s probably the start of the end of lower league football and is of the utmost greed. Obviously talks with Sky , clubs, agents has been going on for some time. Disgrace !!

Shameful day for world football.

The most disheartening thing is we are not only involved, we are a primary driving force.

Ceferin: "I have seen many things in my life. I was a criminal lawyer. I have never seen people like that. EW called me on Thursday to say he was very satisfied and supported the proposals. He had already signed something else. Agnelli is the biggest disappointment of all."

Worth noting that Ceferin is godfather to Agnelli's daughter.

With all the extra money the ESL clubs will either have two “1st teams” to play both domestic competitions and ESL games.
Or an team A team and B team. That’s if UEFA allows this to go forward.

You actually think UEFA are the good guys in this scenario... My days.

What, you think we live in a binary world where there's always good guys and bad guys? Or that UEFA's awfulness means anyone opposing them are automatically correspondingly better? No matter how bad you think UEFA is, it doesn't make the ESL any better.

I have supported United my entire life, like my Mother before me, gone to more games than I can count, they are one of the most important things to me, and would be delighted to see us relegated out of the Football League over this. That is how awful this decision is and how far removed from the club I've grown up following we have become.

The fans who seem be getting behind this proposal badly need to read what you’ve written here.

@Wumminator
@RedStarUnited

He is wrong though. We are essentially talking about an NFL type of structure, in that structure the quality of the product is what drives revenues and these owners are in it for money. So like with the NFL, they will invest financially in order to have the most lucrative venues and the most entertaining product. This isn't a lazy/dumb money grab but the ulimate sophisticated money grab, the NFL being the reference and owners do everything to make sure that TV are paying for it and people watching it.

We have burnt our bridges with UEFA, reckon we deserve to be booted out Europa for just trying to shit on with them. PSG will be crowned champions of Europe by default

So all players participating in the ESL will be banned from WC and Euros. Will be interesting to see what happens. Surely most player's don't want this shite.

We have burnt our bridges with UEFA, reckon we deserve to be booted out Europa for just trying to shit on with them. PSG will be crowned champions of Europe by default

I think there's a really good chance we won't play or games against Roma now. They'll go through with a bye.

What, you think we live in a binary world where there's always good guys and bad guys? Or that UEFA's awfulness means anyone opposing them are automatically correspondingly better? No matter how bad you think UEFA is, it doesn't make the ESL any better.

No I don't, I think both sides are driven by greed. So you could turn your argument around. Do you think UEFA is any better? It's equally shit and still a closed-up shop no matter how you twist things. It just boils down to media rights.

Somewhat sticks in the throat to hear UEFA and FIFA trying to take the moral high ground on greed

If true. Brilliant move by them. Putting pressure on players. Now to domestic associations. What will they do?
I know everyone's terribly excited about this banning business but National Teams don't need UEFA's blessing to compete in a World Cup or Euro Cup, they can simply create one that isn't affiliated to them.

I hope all fans of the 12 founding clubs bring their Vuvuzelas once the stadiums can be filled again. Wouldn't it be great if Amazon forked out a couple billion dollars for streaming rights and all you hear is bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz?

As I say, godfather to Agnelli's daughter. The sheer drama of all this is remarkable.

The ban from international football is a clear material change to contracts.

I suspect the likes of Raiola already have their legal teams on it.
And where will Pogba et al. go? PSG and Bayern can only afford so many players. Unless they're willing to take a massive pay cut...

Time to go support a German club, they know what it's about.
If supporting a greedy shit organization like UEFA is knowing what´s what then yes.
It has nothing to do with that, the German clubs know that the fans who hold the major vote would never support this shit.

You actually think UEFA are the good guys in this scenario... My days.

This is not about heroism - whether UEFA/FIFA stand up to this clubs because they want to protect the integrity of the game or because it is in their own self interest to do so, I don't much care. I hope that they take a stand, though.

You can't honestly believe that players will walk out?

If they are prevented from ever again being selected for their countries in international competition (while clubs like Bayern, PSG, Porto, Ajax, Dortmund, Valencia, Roma etc remain open as options for them), yes, they might.

The players are in a bad position here. I wonder if they have grounds to break their contracts if it comes down to having to forego international football if they play for their teams in the SL. It seems like a major enough change from the conditions and circumstances under which they signed their contracts.

If I start with Ed Woodward, he called me last Thursday evening saying he’s very satisfied with and fully supports the reforms [to the Champions League]. The only thing he want to talk about was FFP, when obviously he had already signed something else ... Andrea Agnelli is the biggest disappointment of all, I’ve never seen a person that would lie so many times, so persistently as he did. It’s unbelievable ... We didn’t know we had snakes so close to us, now we know.”

Quote from Ceferin, uefa president. Apparently he is Agnelli’s daughter’s godfather!

Absolutely putrid from top to bottom. I’m an American and have supported the club feverishly for 20 years, so I can’t even imagine the disgust match-going fans and locals feel about this. Truly a defining moment in football history and for the club - regardless it it goes though or not.

There’s no going back from this.

Will anyone simply focus more time on a second sport? For me it'd be F1 and my local non league football side

So all players participating in the ESL will be banned from WC and Euros. Will be interesting to see what happens. Surely most player's don't want this shite.
No question mark in your post so you say this as fact but at this time it seems to be back and forth from could be banned to will be banned.
Have UEFA & FIFA said definitively?

People in this thread saying football is already corrupt, so let's go for this Soccah Super League reminds of people voting for Trump or Brexit with the argument that it's poor already, so how bad can it get?

The answer is that it can always, always get worse. 2020 should have taught people the lesson but apparently not.

Based on some of the whataboutism going on here, short of politicians using this as a chance to boost their ratings by passing reforms, I cannot see how this will be stopped.

Which is the end of football as far as we know it.

Good but considering how this has all been cooked up on the other side you d think they probably have a counter to this somehow - that's the worrisome part. I hate that I'm rooting for UEFA and FIFA now but at least with those I know there are some folks with actual footie experience and love involved.

This will only be a good thing in Glazers eyes. Players get injured while playing for their National Teams and they play too many games. So this will make Glazers happy. They only care about the chances of making more money - nothing else matters.
