after following united for nearly half a century, if this abomination happens i am finished with united and football

According to the Financial Times the organizers of the Super League have been trying to secure deals with Amazon, Facebook, Disney and Sky.

The four riders of the entertainment apocalypse

Well, it seems that the vast majority of fans disagree with you.
currently. But then the majority of fans thought Sanchez was a "bargain" and had a paddy when the club refused to break the transfer record in the middle of a pandemic when the club was hemerging money. So been in the majority does not always make you right, especially when it comes to football.

I would also add that I am not in favour of the super league I think it is a general idea for football as a whole. I just don't think this is move is the slap in the face to us "legacy fans" that the 'vast majority' seem to as is offering fans of united a better footballing product.

I wouldn't be surprised if they see the future of football as more akin to American sports franchises - businesses first, with a fanbase that is geographically flexible (and far larger than any NFL or NBA franchise), and one that is not bound to any location. The city in the club's name is mostly there for legacy and branding purposes - you can't buy that kind of brand loyalty after all. Does a fan in India, China, or the US care more about the club, its superstar players, or its domestic League?

It takes a quite astonishing level of cnutishness to create a system where EUFA, FIFA and PSG come out of it looking like the good guys.

It will be like Formula One, with games played across the world: el classico in Dubai; the Manchester derby in New York etc. U2 playing at half time, or perhaps quarter time. And just like the American sports, no relegation.

They will want to milk it for its last penny.
As someone in the US who has gone to games United played for pre season here (including the famous 110k+ attended game against Real in Michigan) I have zero interest in seeing any of the clubs actual make this international thing a permanent thing- especially for actual league games. One game or so like the NFL does being played in one of the cities is one thing - to make it part of a multiple game rotation just feels wrong - like you strip the clubs identity away like it has no relevance at all.Dont forget Perez already tried this with La Liga.

Ahhh so we’ll be expecting them to change their tune very quickly if they get sufficient rights

I hope kick off times are changed so they suit America better. Only seems fair that we start having games kicking off at 1am because they're paying for it all.

Lets play one half at 1am for the Americans and one half at 4 pm the following day for the Chinese.

Nah unnecessary, just move the games to USA.

I'm amazed that the Europeans have caved so easily to American persuasion/demands here.

This NFL franchise model is a load of shite and we should resist it with everything we have.

Here's what I don't get about all this. If the clubs are banking on a large American audience to help fund this it just isn't going to happen. Weekday games are in the middle of the work day and only the dedicated few are going to miss work or keep away from the score so they can watch it on reply. For goodness sakes, TBS/TNT backed out of showing the CL/EL last year because they were losing money. You now need to pay for something called Paramount+ to watch the games. The audience just won't be there.

The same PSG that has essentially corrupted both FIFA and UEFA and the world cup, I think it has a lot to do with it since his club is one of the main reasons this ESL has escalated.

Herrera going to play for them and getting paid very well has absolutely nothing to do with it. Especially when we didn't even offer him a contract until PSG did. Ridiculous false equivalence.

Did you miss the 2031 in the tweet you posted?
Ah yes, so it isn't a leak then. Apologies thought it was. I still think its highly probable. Manchester, build us a new stadium or we will move to Athens who have a brand new stadium waiting for us.

Happens almost yearly in American sports.

Genuine question. Could the government get involved to seize the 6 clubs from the owners? Put some form of social importance on them to stop this happening again in the future? It should have been done years ago. The sport has far more importance to European people than money.

Pretty unlikely I think.

More likely is the PL move to kick out the big 6. Without normal domestic football this idea dies quickly. Would be a gamble but the super league trashes the premier league anyway to a large degree.

Europeans haven't caved yet. Just a bunch of rich cnut owners trying to force this bollocks on everyone.

....which they adamantly don't want. And so on. We could go on, but what'd be the point.

UEFA's Alexander Ceferin: "The players that will play in the Super League will be banned from playing in the World Cup and Euros"

AC Milan, Arsenal FC, Atlético de Madrid, Chelsea FC, FC Barcelona, FC Internazionale Milano, Juventus FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid CF and Tottenham Hotspur have all joined as Founding Clubs. It is anticipated that a further three clubs will join ahead of the inaugural season, which is intended to commence as soon as practicable.

so which clubs are the most likely to join? i’ve read between the lines and done the hard work, so you don’t have to.

1. missing merseyside

with local rivalries abound in the new super league, liverpool stand out like the terrible defending champion they are. the manchester rivalry is there. the london trio present, the milan twins, the madrid duo. all evidence points to the other big team on merseyside being dragged in. this will bring back competitive derby football to merseyside. as a result, tranmere rovers are a shoe in. their late participation is down to the fact that they aren’t in the premiership, so they didn’t have anyone working on sunday evening.

2. a change of code

a rebuild is on the cards for the most successful nfl frandchise of the last 20 years. the core of the new england patriots all conquering side has moved on or are retiring. align this with most of the states dying due to a botched covid response, could this just be coincidence or are their owners planning a seismic shift to proper football?

3. ronnie o’sullivan

altogether not strictly a football team, or wave a
footballer, with a nickname like “rocket,” rocket fc will be easy to brand. how he will fill all 11 positions at once remains to be seen.[/QUOTE]

No it's not ridiculous atall but if it gets to a stage where owners can actually do it and get away with it would only mean one thing that fans by and large have accepted this super league and they have been hugely successful .
It's not all gloom and doom fans and supporters do have a say in all this their whole model is predicated on generating huge tv revenue JP Morgan is betting big on it may be initially they could get big numbers for their streaming and tv deals due novelty of it all but if audience don't turn up it would die quickly to be honest .
Have you heard of MK Dons?

Plot twist: games will eventually be moved to the weekend for perfect US and ASIA times. Or even worse, the games will just be played in those countries.

The Super League clubs face expulsion from next season's Champions League. Rummenigge joins UEFA's executive committee in place of Agnelli.

I guess they will be hoping to retain much of the TV audience in Europe/Asia that currently tunes in to the Premier League, el classico and the Champions League final stages. Anything they gain from the US will just be a bonus.

The main thing for these owners is doing away with relegation/qualification from top level football. With that gone, they don't have to worry about investing sufficiently to keep their sides competitive (or risk missing out on the big TV/sponsorship money) - instead they can now skim off the profits for themselves. That'll be the motivation for Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and United, anyway.

Awful awful,
Have to say those in favour should give their heads a wobble. Just have a look at the fecking scum behind this. Couldn't give a toss about the fans and yes UEFA/Fifa are corrupt to the core and deserve to be fecked up the arse but not like this.
This is just an elitist shady group that goes completely against what football should be. How do teams not involved in this circle jerk compete? How can teams grow? Well they can't after this.
Same set of teams for the next 20 years. That just isn't right, teams have boom bust cycles. Utd used to be dominant, miles off the pace in the last 7 years. What about Arsenal currently fecking 9th..

So if this was to happen, Prem continues as normal. What's the point of coming top 4? What do teams have to play for bar the title? What happens if a team in the ESL just can't compete whether due to owners banking the extra cash and not investing in the team. They become an invincible whipping boy, can't be relegated.. season after season akin to sheff Utd..stay mid table in the Prem i.e Arsenal this season and finish regularly below Non-ESL teams like LCFC.

Thats one of my main issues, if this was fan driven I'd still be against quite a bit of it. One of my favourite bits about the Prem is getting to know the newly promoted sides, sure most of the time they just remain bottom of the pack but sometimes you get a Wolves/Leeds/Sheff that are actually exciting and add something special to the league and definelty make a difference.

Honestly extremely disappointed in Utd, understand the timing when fans aren't there. I don't know how they will get away with this without some pushback..it's like Brexit.. doesn't matter how long goes by and if it even happens. Utd and the other 11 teams now are going to be on the shite list.
