Erling Haaland

He seems to obvious to be joining City. Incredible talent would be a game changer if he joined us. But with Agueros age, Jesus not really shining and proving to be the long term solution, his dads previous time at City and with the release clause, its hard to see him going to us over them.

I guess the only thing stopping it would be if Pep would want a Raiola client

We should try our best to get this guy. He has that drive that will motivate others around him and in a few years, he could be unstoppable. The most important thing would be getting rid of all the deadwood in the squad, starting January. 75 million is nothing IMO for a player of his quality who is still so young. I hope Ole can convince him to join us. Would take him over Sancho and Grealish. Our main problem is that we miss a lot of chances, especially Martial and Rashford. Haaland doesn't miss many. Wouldn't mind if we don't sign anyone in midfield or defense in the summer window if we can get Haaland and Grealish (after selling Pogba and others like Rojo, Jones, Lingard, Romero etc).

Would be one hell of a signing but his agent is trouble with a capital T, in regards to Sancho/Grealish I still favour Jack but ideally we could do with signing Haaland and one of those two over the next two summer windows.

IMO, the Haalands have a plan for developing Erling's skills at Dortmond and then move to England where Erling was born and his father played. If United continue their current player recruitment and player development model while Ole gets those recruits playing positive, entertaining, and winning football, United will be Erling's choice for the prime years of his football career. Mino won't matter if United are Erling's best opportunity for many years of EPL/CL success.

Except his family DNA, if City seem as quiet as they have been in the PL by season then I honestly will be surprised if Haaland chooses them over us.

Sure he gets to replace Aguero, but he gets to replace Cavani here.

If City couldnt win the CL all that time with those players and managers, is Haaland the final piece in the puzzle when all the key players are getting older and older and their squad may still look class but always a worse version of what was the season seen before.

Haaland at United seems like the final piece of the puzzle. The Norwegian wonderkid playing under the Norwegian manager who always wanted him and reject him to build his progress somewhere else for 2 years. He had played under him before and had been successful with him before just like most of the squad looks like it might be able to be in early January.

His Dad plays for City, but he is not his Dad - he is a different player and a better player; just like the clubs- he will play for Manchester United not Manchester City.

I doubt the history with them will matter much, nobody gives a shit about City now let alone when they were shite

It'll be Pogba all over again with Raiola.

Pay 120-160m for Haaland

First year: Everything's fine, lifelong dream and all the PR stuff.
Second year: Raiola shitstirring, taking Erling's focus - "There's bigger places you can go, ya know?? This club is not the perfect fit for you, you want to make it at all the big stages"
Third year: Raiola shitstirring. Starting contacts to PSG, Bayern, Juve, Real Madrid, Barca.
Fourth year: Stirred so much shit up that we have to sell Haaland who is "not happy here, and everyone knows it"

All in all, we shouldn't deal with this cnut, as we look to have a longcontract player like Liverpool have Salah and Mané for many years, and like we had Rooney, Rio, Carrick, Scholes, etc.
These are the type of players you should get for the fee mentioned. Not the 2-3 years and move on Raiola type of player.

The only way we should sign him is if we insist once the deal is done he drops Raiola and never uses him again.

That's extremely naive. He'll most likely want to move him on again to collect another big agent fee, and plant thoughts in his head. He does this with so many of his players.
I even made a list once where I researched it, and in about 50% of the cases, he didn't bring the big players to a better suiting club for the player / more succes.

Agree with this. Look how many times Zlatan moved clubs. Your findings feel right.

IMO both Dad/son and Mino have a clear plan both in terms of incremental development of player whilst maximising their profit through moves. I can see him moving to slightly bigger club each time and then by around 25 he will aim to be either at RM, Barca or Bayern where he can look to break records in terms of goals and trophies.

I would gladly bring him in for 120M already now, and lift both the PL and EL trophy in May. If we manage to keep him for 12-15 years - fantastic! If we manage to keep him for 2-3 years - fantastic!

Sounds about right that they'd have a long term plan with more moves than just one club

Haaland and his agent hold all the cards here. Dortmund may be willing to sell for 120m but if Haaland doesn’t want to move now or join us, they can’t force his hand.

Raiola is going to milk whichever club signs him
for all their worth - I expect he will ask for at least Ronaldo type wages. I have a feeling that Haaland may only be financially viable for a couple of clubs - Barca would have signed him for sure if this was 2 years ago and paid him
Silly wages.

I think Utd should refuse to deal with Riola. He causes too many waves. Hopefully Utd sell Pogba and make it clear to the current players that Riola's clients will not get game time.

We need to use the Pogba situation to our advantage.

Let them do what they want with Pogba as long as we have a deal wrapped up for Haaland.

That might be a way of getting some traction on this.

Not having all this Raiola talk personally. ‘It will be like Pogba again’. Yes it will, if we buy Haaland for £100m and then spend years struggling to even get into the CL. If at that point he is a player who still has suitors at the top of the game - he would, and should - become unsettled.

Raiola also represents Lingard if I’m not mistaken, and there are no constant Real Madrid/Juventus rumours about him. We have been poor, but Lingard has no better options. Pogba has good alternative options, and unless Haaland totally falls off a cliff - he will too.

It’s easy to point fingers at the agent, but us being out of the CL year on year is never part of the deal when pursuing the world’s best players. If our ambitions are to be the best we should not be running away from top players. Fans seem to buy into some sort of fairytale - these are marriages of convenience, and we want too players to help us be the best, and they want top clubs to help them be the best. Whenever that isn’t happening, both parties will assess their options and do better for themselves if they feel they can do. For all the criticism and complaints, I spent years on here reading that Pogba is ‘still our best player’, so perhaps much of the time - WE haven’t been able to do better, but HE has. And has clearly considered it. Now our team is strengthening, maybe we have moved into a position where we feel that WE can do better, and are now considering it.

The game is the game. We should absolutely sign Haaland if we can and not be scared about his agent coming out and saying we are shit after a few years. And if he does, you can rest assured he won’t be the only person saying it, and the fact that he has said it will be the least of our problems at the time. Players move in football all the time when expectations are not matched one way or another. What our focus should be on is becoming a top team. If we do, certain problems take care of themselves, and if we don’t, then certain inevitabilities will occur.

We can't force any player to come here, but this would be perfect timing with us most probably topping the league on Tuesday.
We probably must pay him well, but he has been pretty clear that he chooses development and trophies over money (He's on 100k/week now).

We won't deal with Riaola again once Pogba goes...while Haaland is good he is very young and his performances will drop off - it's inevitable - also once he's moved at great expense then he will be under immense pressure in a new league...he is just Mino's new cash cow

I would obviously love him here but I wouldn't want anything to do with him while Raiola is his agent.

We should stay faaar away from him.

We can find other options elsewhere, he's not worth the hassle of dealing with that fat greedy agent.

What's the point of having him here for 2/3 years knowing that he's gonna leave at some point. And raiola's players always leave.

Dont care about raiola, this kid is a freak prospect and if there's even a slim chance of signing we should go all in.

Would make us nailed on contenders domestically and in Europe for years.

This is just bull! This is your 40-60 goals a season striker and he will stay if he is happy and we challenge for the CL and PL on a regular bases.

The Raiola situation is unfortunate but worth it to get a player like this. He is a monster. Presumably not going anywhere just yet though.

Our trajectory is pointing upwards and this is the kind of signing that also will attract other top talent. If doable it's a nobrainer!

Us, RM and City

Seriously? I'm going to predict you're making a wild guess here rather than looking at actual figures?

EVERY club in football is making a loss. Even City with their wealthy owners have to operate with in FFP guidelines. Real Madrid are building a stadium and have even requested their players to take wage cuts. We refused to pay 110m or so for Sancho in the summer gone.

So why do you believe any of these clubs will spend 120m on one player, in the current climate?

Remember when people said we were linked to him just because he and Solskjær are Norwegian, and he was just a white Lukaku, because he's a big boy.

Totally agree. If he did not have that agent, I'd 'break the bank' for him, but it's too big of a risk. It will also take up time/effort that will come to nothing, so focus on other areas, please.

I'm not saying they will, I'm saying they can, for the right player. That we didn't pay 110M for Sancho in the summer was not because it would ruin us, but because it wasn't a make or break deal.
I agree that the market is changing with COVID, and not long ago there would be more clubs able to go in 120M deep for even unproven young players. (AM 120M EURO for Felix, Barca 117M for Dembele, PSG 130M for Mbappe etc.) I am of the opinion that 120M for Haaland now would be good business, and serious injury is the only risk involved.

120m is a lot of money. That kind of figure will only be reserved for the likes of Mbappe.

I'd love Haaland here. Heck, I think he'd be better for us than Mbappe would. But to spend 120m on a player that a year later would maximum would cost 70m, is a lot

City have avoided dealing with Raiola and his clients in recent years. It will be interesting to see if they change their stance on this one.

I think he is Mbappe level and offers something totally different. For 70M in 2022 we would have competition from every top club in the world + enormous sign on fees/wages would come in play. I would much rather cut off the competition now if there is a chance of landing a deal.

Which is incredible really. You place both Haaland and Mbappe in the PL and the former will score more.
