Erling Haaland

Yes but Eto'o had huge argument with Pep about how no 9 supposed to play which led to him being sold to Inter.

People need to stop thinking that Lewandowski is just an all out striker. He's more similar to Kane & Aguero.
I thought it was more how a 9 should play "when you have Messi" in your team. A lot of the issue was to accommodate Messi as the main goalscorer as he is the best player. Eto'o said this as much. He claimed that it should of been his era but Pep was trying to make is Messi's despite him being young and guaranteed another 10 years at the top. I am inclined to believe it was more about the Messi issue than an inability to play with an out and out 9. Similar to how he bought Villa (spains best ever 9) and shoved him LWF because Messi. He even signed the likes of Kerrison.

In reality, it doesn't work like that. Players usually give agents latitude to get the best deals possible for them, otherwise there is no use hiring a superstar agent like Raiola. If a team does not settle Raiola, he could make it extremely difficult. Common sense tells me that with a release clause that low, Raiola will find it easy to create an auction...not just for the player's wages fees etc, but for himself as well.
If the player wants to get the best deal possible then these days we're usually the most likely to give it to him along with City and PSG. If he wants a big deal and wants a more classical top club instead of those guys then United would be the place to be, and he doesn't need Raiola to come here. Even if he is involved I don't see how it could be a huge negative for us in this instance, especially since he is not managing him 'full-time' like a regular client. I'm not sure a bidding-war would even help the player in getting a better deal. He can pick any club he wants and any club will pay the wage they want to pay, not more. If the player doesn't mind going to City or PSG for the cash then by all means use him but we'll probably not be interested anyways if that is the case.

Where is it said that he wants to go to Madrid? His camp hasn't said anything like that. And even if it was true it wouldn't make sense for them to talk publicly about it at this point.

He was born in England, and grew up in Norway, a country where football fans worship the Premier League over La Liga and the others.
Premier League is where all the money and attention is now. Maybe that will change in 1.5 years, but it's unlikely.

He's most likely to move to the Premier League next in my opinion, and I doubt his next contract will have a buy-out clause, as it would have to £150m+ anyway. (€3-400m if Spain)
If you google Haaland real madrid there are plenty stories out there. As for buyout clause you could agree any figure if the player wants it. Thats what he did at Dortmund and why we wouldnt accept it. I hope you are right, that we can buy him without a buyout clause, but if he came here and we couldnt win the big 2 in the next 2-3 years he would want to leave imo.

He's linked to every club in Europe in those articles. But it doesn't say he wants any team other than Dortmund, for now. And with 1.5 years to go until his clause kicks in it would be illogical for him or his team to bind themselves to any team by speaking about them until there's less than 6 months to go at minimum.

As for buyout on his next contract, he would need the club to agree as well. And with the amount of money involved Haaland and his team will command for his first real big contract it becomes less likely that any top tier club outside of Spain will accept that. (Spain does it because of the rules in their league, that's why they have unrealistic 700m buyouts or so.)

Make it happen at ANY cost!! Offer £20 million more than anybody else is offering and double his wages, one of those players where you just drop your pants when negotiating.

Manchester United MUST have a 25+ goal a season Striker. Rotate him and Greenwood. Perfection.

Personally I think he will join us.

He seems very egotistical.

Coming to us after rejecting us after Pogba leaves us sounds like something he would do.

Or he can go to City and play the way his Dad wants to.

I honestly think he will come to us.

How do you see us getting around the issue of dealing with Raiola then because club will be fuming after the Pogba stuff.

Perhaps we agree with Raiola to allow Pogba to leave on his terms so long as we have a deal in place for Haaland?

The two issues could be linked in some regard. I would definitely try to play it that way if I were Ed.

That could be a compromise which does suit both parties and presumably allows him to choose where he goes

Would you care to elaborate?
He seems the opposite of egotistical to me. Giving up record setting goals to teammates when he certain to score himself. Always quick to lift his teammates and coaching staff.
The fact that he scores an insane amount of goals, is slightly quirky, and wanted to further develop at a stepping stone club doesnt make him egotistical.
It also does not mean that he will not sign for us later. Had he joined City, Chelsea or another comparable club that would have been a different story.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking, I’m one of the few still loathed to let Paul leave especially if we are finally getting a proper DM to partner him however if he’s part of a deal that means we get Haaland then I’m all for it.

Let’s hope Ed is capable of using the situation to our advantage.

Yeah Haaland is an absolute goal machine no doubt about it,just wish he was represented by someone else

Surely we'd be a 'stepping stone' club for him? Are we happy with that?

Perhaps it's where are now that having 3 seasons of him would be worth it, but it definitely grinds for me. Guarantee he'll be batting eye-lashes at Madrid in 2 seasons, regardless of who he signs for.

Why not join them now? All of Europe will be after him ffs.
We need to get this inferiority complex out of our fanbase. We are a huuuge fecking football club. A player wanting to join us isnt a bluff

We'd be league favourites in those 3 seasons with Bruno slowly hitting his prime and Rashford/Greenwood adding consistency to their game. A striker that guarantees 20+ league goals will transform our team.

A lot can/will happen in the space of three years. He could find himself on 60 PL goals, and as obsessed as he is with goals think to himself that he has a serious chance of becoming all time top scorer. His family has strong connections to England so maybe PL is his ultimate dream. The European Super League is apparently being fast tracked and would certainly change the dynamics of football.

We need to get back to being the top dog again and in that process we've got to back ourselves to both attract the best players and be able to keep hold of those players.

If he’s so determined to play for us it seems weird to hire Mino Raiola to broker deals with Dortmund and Manchester United. His relationship with either clubs can’t be at a high.
He didn't hired Mino, Alf-Inge did. Mino is his father's friend, and he really trust him after moving to Salzburg. Alf-Inge didn't gave a feck about us, he might hate us after that clash with Keano. Erling was only 19 at the time, he couldn't decide his future by himself, and playing for Dortmund in such a young age was perfect for his development.

Most of ex-footballers are taking control of his son's career, even our Legends took their sons to Man City instead of United's academy. It's not weird at all.

It will never happen because if it makes it to the negotiation table, then Raiola will say that there needs to be an 80 million buy-out clause in the deal, on top of his 20 million agent fees to complete the deal. Man Utd will tell him to get stuffed and will focus on Calvert-Lewin instead.

Yeah very strong possibility of that

Braut in his name always confuses me as it means bride in German.

To be fair, while his goal scoring is nowhere near as clinical, his hold up play is far better than Haaland, who really doesn't use his size as a number 9.

I actually think (whispers) Calvert-Lewin would be excellent in our system.

How dare you! Dare you even mention his name in this thread, especially as an alternative.

Jokes. However I strongly feel DCL will revert back to a relatively average player after this purple patch. Then again I said that about Kane.

I feel like we have missed out on this guy unless we finish top 2 to show ambition.

We are also better than city currently. Board needs to convince him thoroughly thy we are on the rise.

That's probably my worst take in history too. I'm still waiting for Kane to get over his 1 good season, 6 years later!

My dream player for this club. He is a precarious talent and I have this sinking gut feeling that he will sign for Mancity to replace Aguero.

I agree with Watzke, mainly because let United get Sancho this summer, a CB and perhaps another big signing, whilst clearing the wage bill, offloading Pogba.

Then since Haaland has a clause in his contract for 2022, go and get him then.

Agent Sancho and Solskjaer who will already have a good relationship with Haaland can then turn his eyes towards United hopefully.

He'd be the missing point at that time.

Would you prefer Sancho to Grealish then

Could be worse plan b's in fairness.

I'd prefer both with Pogba, Martial, Pereira, James, Dalot all making way to finance it.

Cutting some of the players still at United (the deadwood) that seem to have contracts still are costing United at least 15-20m a year on wages.

I like Martial but he goes missing at times, Sancho I get the feeling something special can happen and the same with Grealish. They are match winners and have an aura about them, the same with Fernandes.

United since Scholes, Giggs, Ferdinand, Vidic retired lacked match winners, leaders and world-class talent.

I think Grealish is a leader and I think United need those characters honestly when games aren't going to plan. Sancho and Grealish have the arrogance, swagger that I think some Manchester United players need versus dropping shoulders when things don't go their way.

Without someone like Grealish, in Fernandes absence you feel United will maybe not create as much, and without getting someone like Sancho there's no right side to the attack.

I really feel there needs to be both and a CB.

This month United need to get rid of players like Rojo, Romero, Jones players that perhaps don't cut it and won't feature until the summer that clearly will never play football at United again.

Then in the Summer United needs to get rid of players like Lingard, and Pereira after his loan and look to get the right fee for the likes of Pogba.

I really don't think this summer is the time for Haaland to leave, because I think he needs another year at Dortmund and his clause kind of informs really

I just can’t see Grealish moving this summer. He’s going to be very very expensive and could probably give Villa another season if they finish as high up as it looks like they could.

You make a very good point about Tony going missing at times and he has been at the club for 5 and a half years, he certainly has had moments of magic like the solo goals against the scousers & Fulham but has lacked consistency. Personally think we would definitely need to sell him & Pogba in order to fund moves for both Sancho/Grealish & Haaland over the next couple of summers.

The problem is we find it so difficult to sell the likes of Rojo, Jones & Lingard because we have either dished out stupidly long contracts in the case of Phil or the player is just on far too much money per week in the case of all three of them making it difficult to shift off the wage bill.

Bring Grealish in 2021 and Haaland in 2022. With Grealish, Rash, Bruno and Haaland on the pitch you have world-class winning mentality. Will make us CL champions.

Don’t go for Sancho. Have watched him a lot lately. No leader. Not enough winner mentality.

Rather have Haaland than Sancho. Better player and more suited to what United needs.

Either will be very difficult signings to pull off
