Erling Haaland

Ronaldo plus Cavani leaving should open up enough wage capacity to sign this guy. Then just need a couple of CMs and a CB, and we should be in decent shape to challenge for top 4 next season.

Would you be comfortable with a player earning more than £700,000 a week here?

As exciting as he is, I wouldn't want him for that money. Not with that fecking neanderthal representing him either. How long before other players at the club go knocking on the managers door demanding the same?

No, Lewandowski is basically indestructible.

But he is probably also 10kg lighter than Haaland, a complete fitness and nutrition fanatic (it helps that his wife is a Karate black belt, nutrition specialist and studied PE…) and never purely relied on physicality and explosive sprints.

I am not saying that Haaland is injury prone. The track record is too short. I am only saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if him dealing with muscle injuries becomes a thing.

I agree with you.

Honestly why would he join us over other European rivals next season in your opinion? I don't think we're in the running

Do you know what? I wouldn’t mind us spending 700,000, a million whatever a week to get the next Messi and ronaldo for their prime and actually dominate like a club of our standing and outlay should. We are already spending similar amounts on wages but most of ours is on a squad that’s won and will win nothing. I wouldn’t mind having Mbappe and Haaland taking a million a week home each and then having the backups on realistic money and replacing with youth as the backup players wage demands rise too high. We simply have too many passenger players that could be easily replaced by players on a fraction of their money. Get a few specialists and put real graft and intensity behind them. Profit.

On the other hand I wouldn’t like to deal with Mino again and he’s surely off to Real anyway with Mbappe. Smart feckers know how to corner and woo the generational talent. Over and over and around we go. Other clubs like us are just sitting around feeding off their scraps and mistakes.

Seems to be having a bit of a tough time with injuries this season.
It's not just him, it's the whole team. The amount of muscle injuries in Dortmund this season (so since Marco Rose took over) is worrying. Something is wrong there, but probably not with Haaland personally.

Has Lewandowski had similar troubles during his time at Bayern?

Not really.

Since joining Dortmund in 2020, Haaland has missed more games (24) than what Lewandowski has missed (23) for Bayern since 2014.

So glad the reasons for not going for him are racking up. We're not going to do it right? Right?

That's quite some dichotomy. I don't think it bolds well for Haaland to be so injury prone at his age.

That is worrying! It would be really unfortunate if he himself was hampered with injuries!

Would love him at United, just don’t think we get him over the two Spanish giants if they’re interested.

As concerning as his recent bouts of injuries have been, he's also a young man growing into his body. He seems to have put on some serious muscles in a relatively short time, and with his explosive game that's always going to lead to possible injuries. I think he is now at an ideal shape, he's like a cyborg sent from the future to destroy all goalkeepers and he doesn't really need to add more muscle to his game now so hopefully his body is now adapting and he will put the muscle injuries behind him. If he's still having issues over the next few years, then it's a concern but right now it can be reasonably explained as just a young man growing into his body that's still learning to handle all those RPMs. He has an excellent discipline in his nutrition, fitness, etc so whatever is happening isn't due to a lack of commitment from him, if anything maybe he's too committed and it's affecting his body.

Like I said before: Man City is easily the biggest favorites to sign Haaland due to how brilliant Benzema is for Real Madrid.

He shows no signs of being washed despie being 34 years old.

This is quite a fascinating situation because you would think normally he'd have clubs queuing up to sign him given the potential price and how good he is - and yet I'm not sure there are really ANY ideal suitors for him this summer.

City seem to be favourites, but paying any player £500k a wage goes completely against their wage structure principles. It's worth noting that he's also not a great fit for them stylistically, and they've just signed another very highly-rated young striker in Julian Alvarez.

Real then appear to be the other team in play, but they are set on signing Mbappe and you have to figure they'd struggle to afford both of them. There's also the question of what do you do with Benzema.

Given a variety of situations - the likes of Barca, Bayern, Chelsea, Liverpool, Juve are all out of the question. PSG might be in the running if Mbappe leaves, but you have to question whether Haaland would want to go to Ligue 1 at this point in his career. I think certainly he'd need some assurances that he'd be able to leave by the time he's 24/25.

United funnily enough despite the club being in disarray might be dark horses. If the likes of Pogba, Cavani, Mata and potentially Ronaldo leave they would certainly be in a better position to meet his wage demands than most.

I actually think at this point though, he's more likely to sign a new deal with a bump in wages, an increased release clause and we see him stay another season and he and Raiola assess their options in the summer of 2023 when there's likely a better market for him.

Yeah, if Gaughan reports it I think this is done.

Very exciting, bit worried about his constant injury niggles though

Does he even suit City, I mean he’s a fantastic striker but City usually dominate possession and could be doing with a natural fox in the box, instead of Haaland who enjoys a bit of space up front. I’m sure he’ll still score goals but could be square pegs round holes kinda thing.

I hope you are right

I genuinely believe he suits anybody in any style. He might not get the ridiculous numbers he’s getting, but he will still score a boatload. Even with his recent string of injuries, clubs should pay almost anything to have him. I just hope these injuries are from growing into his body and not an actual issue he will deal with throughout his career. It would be a shame.

The only positive here is it strengthens City which means Liverpool are less likely to win the league. Silver lining n all

Week? You need to think long term mate, which is even worse.

Liverpool win the league
City win the CL
United finish in a conference League place
That conference league would be fecking mint and you know it. Away trips to the arse end of europe to play against a load of farmers and turkish goat herders.

A trophy is a trophy :smirk:

With his connection to Ole and United's generally being in ascendancy, I was hoping that he would come to United. The current state of the club is so far removed from that hopeful feeling.

Truth is we don't deserve him. Chaos upstairs. Chaos on the pitch. The only thing going for us is we can pay well. Next season unlikely to offer Champion League, so let's hope we can grab other talented youngsters and hope all this shit we fling at a wall one day works

He’s both someone who likes to run into space as well as a fox in the box. He finds finishes out of nowhere.

Did anyone not expect this as soon as we signed off on Ronaldo coming back?

Diabolical forward planning.
