Erling Haaland

Did anyone not expect this as soon as we signed off on Ronaldo coming back?

Diabolical forward planning.
I really don't think one had anything to do with the other. I just don't think Haaland is looking to go to anything short of a perennial contender for all the trophies after proving himself at Dortmund.

I genuinely believe he suits anybody in any style. He might not get the ridiculous numbers he’s getting, but he will still score a boatload. Even with his recent string of injuries, clubs should pay almost anything to have him. I just hope these injuries are from growing into his body and not an actual issue he will deal with throughout his career. It would be a shame.
He’s both someone who likes to run into space as well as a fox in the box. He finds finishes out of nowhere.
He’s definitely a beast in Bundesliga but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t rack up the same numbers at City, more physical defenders, less space, team that doesn’t exactly play to his strengths. He will no doubt finish given a good chance but look at Grealish he’s not exactly pulling up trees himself and he hasn’t really been doing it for Norway.

Makes sense, he wants to win balon dors and champions leagues whilst we struggle to even qualify to be in it for consecutive seasons. Hopefully he doesn’t stay there too long.

Thank you for the reply. But it wasn't just Keane. Thousands of our fans were hurling insults at father Haaland. And the whole United organization supported Keane against Haaland (of course!).

Can you imagine Beckham's son playing for Liverpool if United also wanted him? Our fans would be upset, and the Liverpool fans might never really love him. Too risky for a footballer. It is so much easier for Haaland to go to City.

Anyway, I really hope I am wrong. It would be great if we get him!

Back in July 2021, I was certain he was going to City. It was the obvious move, given who his father was. I don't know why people discussed Haaland for so long. We had zero chances to sign him. Zero.

(Replying to myself just to prove that I had posted something similar in July.)

Depressing as feck if true. I hope that Madrid do a last ditch bit of madness for him

Hope he fails miserably. Also where does the signing of Julio Alvarez fit in?

Why in the world of feck would any player looking to make a step up as one of the best in the world want to come anywhere near this shit show?

The idea that Haaland, as probably the hottest talent on the market bar Mbappe, would want to be scrapping for top 4 whilst plying his trade in The Europa League is quite laughable.

We'd probably turn him into Emile Heskey in 6 months anyway.

Interesting post. Back in the days United had Yorke, Cole, Sheringham and Solskjær, that was always sited as an advantage on here. Julio Alvarez is a talent who has never played in Europe, he might be good and he might be absolutely shit - should they not get him because they have plans to buy one other player? As we know, City double up on each position and win titles.

It’s the most attractive club for footballing reasons at the moment and while we used to laugh at noisy neighbours it turns out they’ve been busy working hard to establish themselves as a truly top club.

If/when Man City win the champions league that would be the final nail in the coffin.

Not surprised tbh it was city or Madrid .

He was never coming to this joke club challenging for a top 6 finish every season

You can just see the United board signing Poch and then putting in a 120 million bid for Kane as a “response” to this

City getting Haaland and then us announcing Poch plus “Harry Crayon Kane” on a 6 year deal would truly finish me off.

How many CLs and Balon Dors have City players win?

Not really what he was saying though was it. City are in a far better position for any young player to come in and learn from a world class manger and have instant success. They are closer to CL and Ballon D’or potential for a player than any other team bar maybe Madrid?

Yeah but you aren’t jointing City to win CLs and Balon Dors and if that were the criteria then joining Madrid is the obvious move?
The post doesn’t make any sense when it’s a City v Madrid situation

Absolutely zero and let’s enjoy that whilst we can because it won’t be long. The balon dor has been dominated by two individuals for 15 years which is a bit of an anomaly and they are usually one of the favourites for the cl, pep will figure out how to get out of his own way and win the thing soon enough.

The European sides lobby for Balon Dors. You don’t join an English club to win a Balon Dor because the English clubs don’t have that clout. Look at Lewandowski last year. Look at the year Ronaldo simply left Madrid and somehow Modric won it.
Add in next year being Peps last season at City and I just don’t see it

From an objective stand point Madrid would give the best chance but then after that with Ronaldo and Messi on the wane I don’t think it’s a ridiculous claim anymore.

Doesn't seem to fit City's playing style, hmm maybe Pep is leaving and replaced by a manager with a slightly different style? A manager who likes a striker like Haller? :D

If we'd have let City lumber themselves with Ronaldo and signed a midfielder instead we'd probably be looking at CL next season with a vacant striker spot to fill.

We might go for Kane imo.
Great. Another geriatric striker. Kane has at most 1-2 years left at his best. If anything, I hope we’ve learned old strikers is not the way to go and pass on Kane if he’s moving.
I’ll be more worried of signing him if Poch ends up as our new manager.

As far as Haaland goes, we never had a shot at him. If he couldn’t be convinced to join us instead of Dortmund, he was never going to choose us over City, Madrid, or Barca.

I was thinking of Poch yes. New managers tend to want to get some players they know, we need a striker, Kane is on the move, so it makes sense. Far from ideal but he is still a great striker if for the relative short term.

We literally wouldn’t have had a striker and wouldn’t have made it past the CL group stages.

If you assume our games would play out exactly the same with a better midfield and someone else up front.

Not for Levy money. Throw them the 2022 equivelent of 20m for RVP and it would be ideal.

Edit: I'll add, Kane ain't winning us a title like RVP did.

City makes the most sense, he would be an idiot to come to United in its current state, we're in absolute ruin right now.

Here's hoping he ends up like a Pogba with Raiola continually shit stirring in the press.
