There are other ways to praise the player and say he'll be a good captain rather than saying something which isn't true though.
Unless by "success" he means something different due to English not being his primary language.
Because that is the right thing to say if you want to push an under performing players. Maguire might be shit but let's not rule out how many finals we were close to and how well England has performed while he has been captain. Maybe that's what Ten Hag sees.
