Erik Ten Hag: Press Conference in Bangkok

Ten Hag has avoided getting drawn in to the English media's Ronaldo obsession.

On a side note, the English media really are tiresome. Ten questions so far, six of them have been the same question on Ronaldo worded in six different ways. Two questions asking whether he's unhappy at the lack of signings and only two questions related to the actual football.
 
Not sure what was the fuss about his accent or English. Maybe he sounds funny in Dutch, but in English, he's perfectly fine.
 
Pointless presser. Ronaldo not for sale and Maguire captain the only two points worth noting.
 
He’s the anti-Ragnick - gives nothing away. Laurie has also completely got the wrong end of the stick - he’s saying he hasn’t spoken to him since his family issue - not him wanting to leave - the impression I got was he hasn’t told him anything about wanting to leave.
 
The only things we learned were that Maguire would be captain, and that Ten Hag wants to bring in reinforcements for midfield and attack. Bit of a damp squib of a press conference to be honest.
 
Why are you guys surprised? Ofcourse the presser was going to be all about Ronaldo!

Ronaldo is the biggest draw, so what do people expect?

Good to see that he didn't give away much. Would've preferred to see him stamp out the questions after the 3rd try.

What? He’s specifically said he hasn’t gone awol and has a family issue.

Ten Hag quite good with answering the media. He doesn't seem phased about the way transfers are going YET.

He can't leave if there's no bid, until one arrives that's acceptable, he'll be a United player.
 
They kept asking about Ronaldo because while he is mostly giving a straight bat on a couple of occasions he did drop a tiny bit more information, nothing overly interesting but I'd say enough for them to believe they might get a proper quote if they kept at it. However he handles himself well, he's clear and concise and I particularly enjoyed his calmness when they were pushing the issue.

Chucking previous coaches under the bus when he's underperformed massively. He's not wrong about poor coaching before ETH but given how bad he was last season you'd think he'd keep his head down and just get working.
 
A small thing but thanking the translator at the end shows what a classy, respectful man ETH is.

I really like what I see and hear from him so far.

Disliking a black man doing what a lot people do, for no apparent reason except for being a ‘fraud’. Yeah I would think it has racial undertone.

Unless people can identity why he’s a fraud ?
 
He said Maguire will be captain because “he has achieved great success”. Hopefully he gets him playing better than he has shown so far.

He said that he'd had a really long chat with Ronaldo and that everything was fine. So I'd assumed that he was aware of what was going on behind the scenes and everything was all good.

But the journo rightly clarified that by asking if that long chat had occurred before or after Ronaldo went awol. Turns out it was actually before and he's not spoken to Ronaldo since he requested the personal leave.
