Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

We pass on him for Pochettino and can safely confirm that player power still runs this club. I also fear Fergie's long term love in will overrule any opinion Ralf has on it

I'm in the minority here but I do have doubts, mainly because of the difference between the Dutch and the Prem leagues.
If he gets the job, he maybe great and I really hope he is,he will certainly have a job on his hands because we need a big overhaul of the squad, to my thinking we need a centre half, right back, 2 midfielders, three forwards as well getting rid of 5 or 6

Just a genuine question.

what’s the hype around this guy?

what’s he won?
Do managers need to have won things to be considered worthy of managing big clubs?

Naglesmann was hyped before Bayern?
Tuchel was hyped, won nothing before being given a shot at Dortmund and only one league before PSG?
Zidane won nothing before Real...
Blanc was hyped for his stint at Bordeaux but his achievement were relatively minor before PSG?
Guardiola won fuk all before Barca?
Klopps achievements at Dortmund are quite similar prior to his Liverpool chance but he was hyped simply because of his style of play.
Allegri won little before Juve?
Luis Enrique at Celta...?
Did you see Inzaghis inter be the better team over two legs...beating Liverpool with 10 men as opposed to crumbling and being made a mockery of like we did. his achievements before Inter were nothing really but he has them looking fuking awesome.
Wenger was hyped but came from japan?

I guess I’m saying hype and trophies seem to mean fuk all. It’s substance primarily - is this guy actually a good coach or is it a sortnof serendipitous coming together of coach/team/fans/club that just work in that moment.

I would say any manager is going to struggle here as we are a fuking grade A shit show. But I would rather pick someone like ETH and be excited by what he might be able to bring to the table, dominance of the ball, hard work, only accepting players that would run through a brick wall for him, playing talent and not names...then choose another “does exactly what it says on the tin” appointment like Mourinho or Poch.

These ragtag bunch of sorry ass losers is why we are in this mess to begin with. Most of them have to be rid regardless of who is the manager because they do not have the winning mentality that is required for this kind of club. If Glazers don't care about winning, then they should at least care about filling their own pockets which are mostly determined on how well the club is doing.

I strongly have this feeling that if we miss out on Ten Hag, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot hardcore. It'll honestly feel like deja vu - missing on Klopp in order to get some past it dinosaur again.

The defensive record hasn’t been as good in recent weeks. Very bad defending on a set piece goal today. :nervous:

He’d fit in well at united, He’s got the fergie time attribute. Last 2 games they’ve nicked it in the 90th minute.

Only manager whose teams looks as good at City at a similar style this season, unless I'm forgetting someone.

We'd have to give him multiple seasons, we don't have anywhere near the personnel necessary to play the way he's playing at Ajax, apart from Sancho at LW, Bruno narrow right in the same sort of role Tadic plays on the left, maybe Dalot doing what Mazraoui does and presumably VDB will be back to being a #10 since they've worked together. We'd need 2 new CMs (we probably do anyways, but it's possible with a less possession heavy manager we could get by with Fred next to the right partner for another season).

Yeah feel exactly the same as well but fear the club see things completely different to the fanbase and will appoint the guy they have been absolutely desperate to give this job to for at least 4 years now

Ten hag will clear the snakepit, that alone with solve half our problems.

Go look up the goals scored and goals against statistics of the Eredivisie (past 10 years or so) outside of ETH. You'll see it's the brand of football that is giving him hype. It's not simply about winning. A lot of us want a coach who can coach at an elite level and give us attacking football because we haven't had that.

Couple that with the fact that he said in a recent interview that he doesn't like the fact that Ajax are always selling key players which makes his desire to challenge for the CL very hard and you have almost 99% he will leave at the end of the season.

So far there is interest from both us and PSG.

So PSG will sign the manager we want and United end up signing the manager they sacked.

ETH appears to be a level headed individual. I'm not so sure he would go to PSG knowing he'd be sacked as soon as they lose a couple of games.

Does Ten Hag get along well with Mazaroui?

To the point that he would join United if Ten Hag comes to us?

Or is it more likely he goes to a different club and manager?

Hope they do get along, him and Antony on our right side would be great.

no one considering Ancelotti ?
Utd are apparently. They seem to be doing their homework properly under Richard Arnold. Looking at long term and short term managers.

Jonathan Northcroft who writes for the Sunday Times, was on the Transfer Window podcast this week. He was of the opinion that Utd should try to pounce on the uncertainty at Chelsea and go for Tuchel as Tuchel is a follower of RR football philosophy. He also thought that Utd might be too big a leap for Ten Hag as it is a club that has alot of problems and a toxic dressing room. Someone coming in like Tuchel or Ancelotti who have won the biggest prizes i.e. CL etc, would command respect that maybe managers like Ten Hag wouldnt necessarily get from our toxic dressing room.

I don't think Tuchel has won enough to command that sort of respect either. Besides what matters is the managers quality and man management / leadership. Mourinho and LVG had enough silverware to command respect but still didn't do well enough.

The only tangible difference is probably more clubs capable of being champions. I don't think that is an issue. I do think the club size and media attention it gets is a big issue. It's an absolute zoo. So nof only will a manager have to handle the players but all the media crap that surrounds the club.

He's won an impressive array of domestic trophies in Germany and France, the French league twice, the champions league, the super cup and club world cup. He's definitely among the most qualified out of all our candidates, and this is coming from someone who wants Ten Hag.

And let's be honest, our players don't want Poch because he garners respect based on his track record (its abysmal, he's a serial bottler), its because they think they'll be getting a cushy ride.

If Ajax lost to Benfica today - what would people think of him?

Any changes of impression?

I'd be very disappointed, but not really. The reason I want ETH here is because of the football he is playing against the big boys and his desire to win things.

Benfica are a banana skin of a tie. While they don't look like a top team, their aggression more than makes out for their lack of quality. We should remember that they advanced at the expense of Barca, but I'd still be very disappointed if Ajax went out at this stage.

On the contrary I'd have hope that he'd be willing to announce his departure earlier than the season's end so we can wrap this up. I'm really, really scared its gonna be Poch.

Very big hype around ETH now. I’m not totally against him, but it’s a little bit difficult to find the arguments among the noisy hype.

Can someone enlighten me and explain why ETH is a better candidate than Poch?

Maybe we should to conduct a weighting ranking (5-10 criteria) to assess ETH vs Poch, or other combinations?
