Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

Sancho will fit nicely. You'd imagine Van de Beek will come back in.

There isn't really anyone else you'd feel is tailor made for it.

Hopefully some of the youth prospects like Hannibal and Fernandez are ready to step up for consideration.

I bet he’s watched a load of our matches and has been given access to players contracts etc. I think he’ll have a pretty good idea what’s needed to improve this squad already. It will be small steps though, can’t fix a broken machine in one hit.

it'll have to be simply due to player turnover and learning a new style of play and training....think you'll see him bring on board a few younger players simply b/c he will need to fill gaps within the squad that he can't buy

For once we're hiring someone on the upslope rather than the down.

He's an exciting prospect. Fresh-faced, modern, new ideas, and a clear vision.

I couldn't give a single feck what the players are feeling right now. Happy for him to clear out the whole lot, if he wants. I'll get the skip ready.

a bit surprised it's a 3 year deal....that seems more like a trial run for ETH than a real managers contract that you ahve full confidence in hiring

Yeah why aren't we offering him a 6 year deal? Can't believe we've learnt nothing from the past 10 years

I once took over a restaurant for a friend for 6 months to help him get it up and running.

When asking me to help, he told me there was a great kitchen in it, but when I arrived I found a kitchen that hadn't been touched in 4 years, and hadn't been cleaned before it closed.

There were dead animals inside fridges and ovens, the gas had been disconnected with what looked like an axe and almost every appliance had to be replaced.

The way I felt in that kitchen the first morning, was how I imagine Ten Hag will feel on his first training session watching Wan-Bissaka and mates.
Absolutely rolling around the floor laughing at this story.
Im mega excited about this tbh. It might take him 3 years to clear out the fecking deadwood from this squad and I hope we give him time for it.

I'm sure he'll be given a 6 year extension if he gets us top 4 next season

This is the best signing post SAF, finally some forward thinking from the board. We’re signing the best up and coming coach in Europe. Thankfully we’ve done the right thing this summer and not kept a coach who wasn’t elite, haven’t got a coach on name (Poch). It might seem a gamble, and the best we can hope for in the short term is better football and results, to not get played off the pitch every week regardless of result. In the longer term though I think this guy will be very successful with us.

ETH is actually a year older than Pep.

Lindelof should do well, since he has played as a DM for Sweden and before he came to United.
Varane, assuming he isn't injured.
Sancho.
Fred maybe/doubtful. I'm not a fan at all of Fred but it's because he's played deep and defensively and it's obviously not his jam.
Dalot maybe/doubtful, but he really should be the back up to the "real" RB.
McTominay maybe/doubtful, have to see what his real strengths/skills are when played with an actual DM.
---------------------next season---------------
VDB.
Garner.
Hannibal.

So we will roll into the 2023 season with DeGea, 1 or possibly 2 CBs who fit, a wing, a loan returnee, and two youth teamers. Champions League trophy, here we come!!!

I would just like to point out that many moons ago, when this was discussed as just a possibility, and many were pessimistic about him joining us, I’ve said that the manager of Ajax would swim across the channel if he has to once Utd come calling.

And yeah, our own Pep Guardiola is my idol and all that.

What do Ajax still have to play for this season? Just the league? Would be nice for him to arrive with the bounce of winning a trophy rather than of a loser

I think this is the best appointment we can make but there’s no point getting super giddy. He’s only one man, and we’re a big job. It’ll be gradual.
 This sounds like something out of Jack Reacher novel. Although you‘re not wrong.

The only coach Im happy since Fergie left. Lets hope our management plays along and is ruthless with the players and supportive with Eth

As long as we pick up a few trophies here and there and keep improving then it’s progress.
Yeah, we need to let go of top 4 as a minimum expectation for a season or two as we try to implement a style realistically.

Hopefully we'll have the inside scoop on the next De Jong from the Ajax academy and can get them in before they become common knowledge

Bit of a loon but speaks the language, knows the club, experienced, was at one time a very highly rated coach. If Ten Hag fancies him then why not? Would make sense on a lot of levels. I'd prefer McLaren though I think if he'd consider it.

I can never look at McLaren the same after listening to Athletico Mince these last few years ..

I think it suits Bruno down to the ground tbh. Also think it suits Lindelof, whether he starts as a cb or potentially rb if ETH doesn't trust Dalot enough. Dm is the area where it's an absolute mess though. We have literally nobody who can play the role correctly, but then that's nothing new really.

Bruno will need to massively improve his passing accuracy you would think. I can't see any Dutch coach putting up with a player who gives the ball away 4 times out of ever 5 he receives it, no matter how talented he is.

What we are going to need massively is a proper no 9.

Yeah but we've been here before with United. There was positivity surrounding Van Gaal and Mourinho, then a tonne of positivity before this season started as well.

If he's given the tools and the time then he seems like he'll be a success. He's more modern with his approach than Van Gaal and Mourinho, and tactically far more astute than Ole ever was. There is a lot of work to be done with your squad though. Seems like you need at least one striker, a midfielder or two, new full backs and CB's. If anything what he needs most is the time to work and build. If he gets that then maybe he will get United competing again.

I'll give you LvG, especially on the back of WC (specifically post-Spain hammering) but Mourinho was 50/50 at best among United fans. Also last summer's signing gave us a boost but a lot of fans were voicing concern about the lack of midfield signings and Ole's ability. It's the first time since SAF that a manager signing generate this kind of hype (LvG the closest, but a few feared he was outdated).

First manager signing I am willing to back to the hilt, especially since if he fails then it probably means that no one can fix our issues until we get new ownership.

ETH wants his midfielders creating chances. He plays a bit more direct than I think people realise. Any midfielder who tries to create chances will give the ball away. That's just the reality. Bruno's an excellent presser which will make it easier for him to fit in straight away while most of the rest of the squad will need to majorly improve their pressing
