Got to admit it’s funny. We laugh at others we they get them. Let’s hope it’s their Moyes statue.
Glad he was the choice. While I think Poch’s floor would be higher and likely the safer choice, Ten Hag’s ceiling is higher.
Hopefully he gets the support he needs, which has essentially been the case with all of our past selections.
Isn't that the case with basically every set of football fans whenever they get a new manager? It's obviously about context. Ten Hag breaks the mold of our previous approach and is a testament to the shakeup in the footballing hierarchy at the club, getting the likes of Woodward out and Murtough and others in. He's also the only manager we've hired on an upward trajectory that was widely coveted by other top clubs (narrowly missed out on the Bayern job to Nagelsmann by all accounts).I mean with the positivity around a new manager for whatever the reason is at the time. The expectation at the start of this season was a title challenge.
I do like ETH though and his Ajax side play some lovely football. I think for a lot of you if you were off the pace a bit next season but playing some good football and enjoying watching the side then that'd be enough for now. Seems like you're all fed up with the lack of entertainment and direction on the pitch more than anything.
Its never a 5 year project ffs. This is a 5 year project at bare minimum. If we do not give him power to overhaul the squad and build it in his image, we are going to go on a Liverpool-esque multiple decade title drought and I completely believe that.
Its never a 5 year project ffs.
Its naturally going to be probably 1.5 seasons (2 summer windows/2 January window) of inconsistency/teething issues, but past that should come a step up.
- This summer/ year 1 - implement style, address DM/ST. Top 4 fight
- Next summer/year 2 - address issues from year 1, replace weak points, push on to a steady/safe top 4 team who can punch with heavy weights in 1 off games but maybe lacks consistency
- Summer 2024/year 3 and later - upgrade other parts where needed, step up to title challenging form, start competing seriously for CL and other trophies.
I mean, with the amount of expiring contracts this summer and next summer, the squad will inevitably undergo a huge revamp. Its going to be a very different dressing room no matter what. The style and getting his authority over the squad is the main thing, especially with the absolute charlatan frauds we have in this squad.

I once took over a restaurant for a friend for 6 months to help him get it up and running.
When asking me to help, he told me there was a great kitchen in it, but when I arrived I found a kitchen that hadn't been touched in 4 years, and hadn't been cleaned before it closed.
There were dead animals inside fridges and ovens, the gas had been disconnected with what looked like an axe and almost every appliance had to be replaced.
The way I felt in that kitchen the first morning, was how I imagine Ten Hag will feel on his first training session watching Wan-Bissaka and mates.
Contemplating giving the Athletic my £1 just to view this but I am very sure I will forget to unsubscribe.
If he gets the backing we should see results a lot sooner than 4 years. He needs time and patience is required of us. I fear the #tenhagout to begin very early though if results turn sourJust hope the media, fans and board give this man time.
For once we're hiring someone on the upslope rather than the down.

If he's staying here for 4-5 years then it's refreshing news, overall it will indeed take time to finally trust someone in successful working with Glazers, not to mention with players that need a lesson on modern football.
Part of me still thinks he'll flop and just as his predecessors, he'll be thrown under traditional United's bus after 3 years, but perhaps this time United manager won't crack under level of the best league in Europe, highest United standards and always demanding dressing room.
Huge mission ahead of Erik.
Can't believe VDV missed an opportunity to slag off Maguire.
The players whose contracts are expiring will be gone by the time he comes in. It'll be those with long contracts that he doesn't want that will be the real test.
Yes the timing can hardly be better, Rashford and Cristiano's contracts are up next season. So it's easier to clean up the squad. In a way he has a easier job than the previous managers in that some players are out of contract and will be on the Way out.
pogba
Lingard
Mata
Cavani
And there a lot more who will have one year left on their contracts
I dare not say it, but this could be the reset point where we can move into a new era!
As if we won't give Rashford a huge long term contractYes the timing can hardly be better, Rashford and Cristiano's contracts are up next season. So it's easier to clean up the squad.
Could be. Rangnick's advice who needs to leave immediately could help Ten Hag immensely, right from the start. Now that Ed is gone, and few “football people“ have been added, I hope that won’t be the case anymore. I think we’ll be somewhat competitive if we continue going this route.
If we're smart and Ten Hag is given power I don't think he'll warrant a new contract for a 2 year out of form player on huge wages. As if we won't give Rashford a huge long term contract
As long as we pick up a few trophies here and there and keep improving then it’s progress. How patient are you willing to be? Could take 3 or 4 years for us to be competing at the top.
I bet he’s watched a load of our matches and has been given access to players contracts etc. I think he’ll have a pretty good idea what’s needed to improve this squad already. It will be small steps though, can’t fix a broken machine in one hit.correct...so it's going to be huge turnover of players potentially both expired contracts who have left and guys he may feel don't fit and will want to sell. That's a big task for a guy just walking into the job so hopefully they do some due diligence before he arrives in terms of players he wants to bring in
After watching this video, I'm wondering who in the current side will even feature under ETH. Maguire is definitely not the kind of CB they are talking about.
