The "no outstanding candidates around" discussion still going on  Funny how other clubs don't have these problems that we do. Somehow sacking a proven failure of a manager is "risky" because the new guy could come in and do what, get relegated? With these players and these resources. Before ETH, managers couldn't even survive missing on CL but now sacking a guy who made us a mid table side and a laughing stock in Europe is "risky".
Bayern and Chelsea just had to get their managers from Burnley and Leicester respectively.

Fail to win tomorrow (let's face it, the most likely scenario), and we will be 14th in the league with a fifth of the season played, while being winless in Europe. Utter failure.
We will also almost certainly be 8 or 9 points behind 4th.

Top 4 already gone in early October.

And Liverpool had to go to Feyenoord. And all of them are doing well. Doesn't that kind of prove the point there's no excuse to continue with this manager who's making us worse?

United fans are waiting for someone who simultaneously fits multiple criteria that literally only Pep and Klopp would qualify for.

Just pick a promising manager like most other club have to do.

It's far too early for any of them to have proved much but it proves that it's perfectly normal for clubs to find it difficult to get the sort of candidate they'd ideally be looking at, which you may have noticed was what was being discussed there.

I'm personally in favour of shopping in the bargain bin, I don't want an interim until the end of the season.

The question at the moment shouldn't be if x or y is better than ETH. It's if literally not having ETH there next week is better than ETH.

If there is no obvious candidate than bring in an interim, with the express intent and clear signaling that you have a plan.

Because these guys are hyped as some seriously smart cookies, surely somewhere in a desk drawer there's the 'if ETH is as bad as last year here's what we do' folder.

"Could face the sack". It's just so boring now. These journalists are stealing a living these days, go out and get something proper to report on that you have actual info regarding, rather than guesswork or stating the obvious. Besides, he should be sacked regardless of the result, which makes these tweets all the more stupid.

It almost feels like they're trolling United fans these days.

You'd hope that the club are making an informed decision and aren't being swayed by a one off result.

One thing's for sure, we will have a Dutch manager on Monday afternoon.

Odd. It sounded very much like you were arguing that we should keep him whilst things “settle” (whatever that means), and until some manager comes along that meets your arbitrary definition of “vastly better”.
Exactly.

My concerns too. Do strikers even turn into great managers? Any examples?

There's this guy called Sir Alex Ferguson, he was a striker and went on to do well in management, did wonders at Aberdeen and a club in England.

Good striker as well, pretty much a goal every other game.

1957–1960 Queen's Park 31 (15)
1960–1964 St Johnstone 37 (19)
1964–1967 Dunfermline 89 (66)
1967–1969 Rangers 41 (25)
1969–1973 Falkirk 95 (37)

random thought, remembering the leaving speech on the field that Ajax and VdS gave him when he was leaving. VDS called him a “weird man”

Regardless of the result ageist Villa he has to go. I think we’ll just have to keep getting rid of managers until one clicks, not ideal and I hate to say it but what else can we do..?

In the commentary on TNT sports 2 vs Porto, they were acting like ETH's job was only just being questioned now after that pulled it back to 2-2. Questioned. You've got to believe a a lot of these "journalists" and commentators are getting a kick out of our misery.

So the fact nobody is a guarantee means you try anybody?

And you get rid of someone you said had great potential and replace him with anyone because potential doesn't work? That's bizarre logic.

Actual logic dictates you move beyond just potential, and that's a very short list. Which is my only point.

We just need someone to stabilise us? Who?
Do you know this phrase? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different result.

I'd sooner try someone than carry on getting worse and worse. And let's be real here, we're not talking about the fecking bus driver or just anyone. We're talking about professional managers just like the highly fancied Erik.
Erik had great potential but he's proved he doesn't work here. He might very well go to someone else and be great.
We don't have to find the perfect match. We just need someone to get back to basics and coach us how not to get bummed 3 nil every other week.
The players must be sick to death of chasing their own shadows and would more than likely perform better the second they know he's not the manager anymore.

Absolutely ridiculous isn't it. And we'll soon be in the relegation zone if he's not sacked anyway so there's hardly any risk.
And from now on we should get rid a lot sooner if it's obvious like Erik they're not working and try another.
It's not fecking rocket surgery is it.

Well now they are in a position to make informed decisions, in the summer they had just entered the fray to an almighty barrage of club channels, fans and polls all demanding he stays, not saying they made the right decision but it was a case of not wanting to rock the boat before they even got in the door.

I genuinely hope that's the brief pitched to the next manager, ''We would like you to coach these players to make sure we don't get bummed by 3-4 goals every other week!'

Every 5th game under Erik we concede 3+ goals. Under him we can barely score and we sure as shit can't defend despite him now virtually assembling the 2019 Ajax defence at the cost of about £150m.

Well let's hope they grow a set of balls and don't bottle it this time. Keeping him on after last season was a ridiculous decision that was always going to end this way.

Inzaghi?

Anyway, Ruud as coach will be as interim. He'll only get the job for longer if he turns the team around demonstrably (something OGS did NOT do).

That's what everyone else does.

That's going to be the headline on the top of Ruuds first team talk.
