Not sure whats so controversial about that post, even if its a bit extreme, its not that much sillier than assuming Rangnick is actually a great coach, but the lazy spoiled players refuse to run for him or something. Both takes are on the extreme end of the spectrum.

Yes, the players were good enough to finish 4th, they finished 2nd last year with Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane added.

Nobody has said Rangnick is a great coach (although historically, there's evidence he once was), clearly he's had issues. However:
- He's got a makeshift coaching staff setup
- A lot of our players are infamous for being difficult to work with
- His authority was undermined from day 1 as he's interim

Think the injuries/absences he faced to his forward line are by far the biggest issues he faced. He definitely improved us and had us playing well, until it all fell apart after the break in January. By the time we came back Cavani, Greenwood and Martial were gone. Then Ronaldo got injured in Feb even. Was a period where every game was a dominant performance which ended in a draw. We just couldn’t recover from that spell.

Yes we are the one club in the world where the players don’t listen. Oh yeh and btw these are the same players that got second last season…that’s certainly more believable than realising Ragnick is clearly out of his depth.

Or could it be that a section of players were lazy and wouldn’t listen to instruction. Then when he calls them out on it, this section down tools, don’t listen and feeds a load of cock and bull to the media to draw attention away from themselves.
Seeing the track record of this bunch under previous managers, I personally would believe the second scenario.

Its more likely, unless if Ten Hag gets all the players he wants, that Ten Hag will do exactly as Rangnick, and LVG several years before. He’ll come and try to implement his style of play, but the players won’t be good enough and they’ll start moaning, we’ll start losing and/or the football will look boring and fans/pundit will start moaning. So Ten Hag will start playing for results with what he has.
This happened with RR and people have quickly forgotten. He tried to implement a High Press, but stopped. Same thing with LVG he started off trying to play more attacking but stopped.
A manager can have his ideas, but ultimately at a club like United you can’t be stubborn like Bielsa and persist when your players are not good enough for it.
Your first problem here is believing what anyone saying about Rangnick training which is either made up or a player, as they aren't following orders and it's been clear for a good while nown
Let's assume you are right. Hypothetically. But then, as an interim manager with a specific goal, shouldn't he have a Plan B? And Plan C?

The players have clearly given up under every manager we’ve had post Fergie and they couldn’t even be arsed running and defending as a unit, for the friendly and pro dressing room until the very end Ole. The players majorly let the fans down. Maybe Ralf is a shite manager who didn’t get on well with the players but what about professional pride? The players didn’t even do the bare minimum someone on the lowest wages in the league would gladly do for a club of our size. Maybe it wasn’t ever Ralfs job to get the players on his side but more to figure out who can be trusted to work in a much more organised team. We’ve seen now how much work is needed and I’m happy about that. There’s nowhere left for the owners or players to hide

We've always hired a manager who was available or could be got without too much trouble. That hasn't changed.
Moyes - the chosen one. He had to resign from Everton to join us. He was so bad, we fired him 10 months later.
LVG - He joined with a big reputation having managed big clubs and also a national team.
Jose - serial winner. Our last trophies were won under him.
Ole - He joined with a very poor reputation as a manager and he had to resign from his current job to join us. He was an unmitigated disaster and has left us in a seriously bad place.
ETH - has had to join us by resigning from his current position (just as Ole and Moyes did, before). He has no reputation for managing a big club or dealing with big players.
Reading that, I would say that ETH does not feel different and we got a manager who could be had without too much trouble (which is usually the case with all clubs).
The worrying thing is that fans are putting huge expectations on ETH - a man who has never managed at this level before and a squad which is in disarray. Some of the posts I've read on this forum are downright delusional. Some are expecting him to improve every single player in our squad and turn us into a well drilled machine within 2 years. In this thread I have read posts suggesting that we are 2 players away from being a great team. Realistically, I expect him to drag us up the table into top 4 in year 2 or 3, then get fired the following year.
I know that it's been bad this season, but guys, just be realistic and manage your expectations with ETH. Unless he is a Moyes style disaster, go easy on him and be realistic with what you expect of him.
