Good stuff. Was always the nagging doubt that it wasnt sorted until it was announced officially.

Im excited by this.

Just the fact we have appointed Ten Hag over the safer more predictable choice in Pochettino indicates to me that Murtough has some notion of the rebuild required. Small steps but we are going to get there in the end.

I voted for him but Im not excited by the appointment. Nothing to do with him, mostly due to 5 failures before him.

I'm surprised he took the United job. I almost felt certain that he would have replaced Pep at City with a readymade squad to implement his ideas + unlimited resources. Good luck to him, will be a very very hard situation to turn around.

Says end of season so hopefully end May, start June latest. Can't afford to repeat the mistake made with Moyes where crucial weeks were wasted. ETH needs to get tore in to the mess as soon as possible.

Welcome Erik. This is my 'good luck you're going to need it' handshake.

Moyes was right to go on holiday and Ten Hag would be sensible to have a break too. He can’t just lock his office in Amsterdam and start in his new one in Manchester the next day. He needs to have a break.

Signed, sealed and delivered with 5 games of the season left. Unlike us to have our shit in order.

Christ where's this come from???

Can we finally stop posting mirror articles as they were adamant nothing would be confirmed until after arsenal

I think the club realised that after the horrendous performance/result 2 days ago, they had to announce something to boost the morale of the fans.
Also, for 48 hours, the media has been negative towards MUFC, so it makes sense to announce this now, so there is something positive relating to the club.
I'm not sure what the club will do if we lose to AFC in a few days.

 Cocks out knobjockeys!

I think Pep is genuinely ready to commit to City for the next 3+ years. He’s getting Haaland and he can challenge for the UCL.

Really hope we keep Rangnick and the two work together. I can only imagine how scathing the player reports would be coming from the German.

Could Murtough actually know what he's doing?

Who knows about Murtough but it seems like he's been talking to all the right people to try and get things right, including Rangnick. Forget whatever issues he's faced as interim, Rangnick knows modern football admin as well as anyone out there. Lets hope these guys can team up with Ten Hag to finally fix this club.

What is genuinely the point of being interested in this form of entertainment if you're going to just be unrelentingly negative though? If you can't get excited or hopeful on days like this, I just don't see why you'd bother at all.

You’re right in what you’re saying. But the club has sucked the life out of me. The 4-0 loss the other day didn’t even change my mood, was just a “oh well we’re shite” and moved on.

Even during Moyes, LVG (when football was such a chore to watch) Jose, Ole etc. I never felt the players were so horrific in application or the club for that matter as they are now. I dislike 99% of the players which doesn’t help

:D the boy is ours, I'm very excited about this one .
Always had him under my radar after his 4-1 win at Bernabeu but didn't think we land him as he looked more like a barca appointment.
He is ours now and I support him fully , I'll expect a few rough games at the start but we should be playing pretty football by no less than the end of the season.

Think this is the first time since Fergie that United have appointed the manager I personally wanted them to hire.... so that's nice.

It'll prob go tits up like the rest of them - but hey, for now I live in hope.

I'm glad they didn't give him the 5 year deal, there's been some saviour vibes people have been sending his way and I'm comforted that the board aren't on that program.

I can't get excited about it without a major overhaul of the squad this summer. This lot will soon drive him out.

Posting in this historic thread

Can't believe the club made a smart movie for once. Let's hope he's fully backed.

Welcome Erik. I think it's safe to say he's got the most backing from fans for any manager since Fergie.

Not from the pundits, former players and other numpties.

Make no mistake, they'll be waiting to pounce on him the first opportunity they get.

I voted for him but Im not excited by the appointment. Nothing to do with him, mostly due to 5 failures before him.

I'm in the same boat. Glad it's him, but the last 9 years have definitely been a bit numbing. I was sure we'd win with LVG and then Mourinho. The latter in particular seemed a sure bet to at least win a title.

The rot definitely goes beyond the manager, but I hope he can get fans excited about something again.

Only natural to feel that way.

I’m happy with the appointment, first time since 1986 we’ve hired a manager who is up and coming with a point to prove.

Probably to elevate morale. Given the condition we're in, it doesn't make sense delaying the announcement and keeping everyone guessing while we get trashed 5-0 by second division teams.

Nice.

However I can't shake the feeling that our motto under the Glazers should be "it's the hope that kills you".

When does he start working for us? Would be a nice final push, 5 games new manager bump to possibly lock ourselves in the Europa league and with an outside chance to snatch CL, if the two London teams bottle it, which is still possible.

Great news and really good we have done it so early. I presume he will bring his own scouting team which explains the other information this week.

Is this the start of us actually starting to do things early???? The planning for next season can now properly begin with Ten Hag starting to give his shopping list for players and backroom staff.

He’s literally in a title race

Maybe he's willing to take on a real challenge and work with something less than unlimited funds and the best squad in the country, unlike some.

Utterly soul destroying defeat aside........... this week we got to see hannibal and announced eth! We've had worse weeks

Full support for this guy. Let's hope the board doesn't bottle it again.

Let's get some semblance of a football club back at United.
