Some opinions wouldn't hurt. That's what press conferences are for: To have questions answered.

As long as they don't ask questions which require me to reveal team tactics or questions with biased agenda, that's fine.
Man this is really creepy...

Its funny because we only scored goals because we relied on individual brilliance as well that season, where is the individual brilliance now?

Its a misconception from fans that we played some park the bus football in every game.
Nah we never parked the bus, if anything we looked pretty vulnerable at the back that year for stretches of matches. I do think after Christmas we were essentially carried by Cavani, Pogba, and Greenwood going forward. We also had that flukey away record where we never lost on the road that really helped that year.

I mean when you look at it now, its impressive how we got 2nd and Europa finals with Maguire Lindelof at the back, AWB and no CDM.

Even now, when we don't have Casemiro and Eriksen, we do not look the same, easy in midfield and no cutting edge.

Injuries starting to creep in now. Hopefully we dont completely feck the season up!

Nope. When we played decent teams we played park the bus football. And it was the only time we looked like we had quality.

When we played other shit teams we played really fuking badly with the ball and looked quite simply clueless when trying to break teams down - often relying on a single player to come up with the goods as opposed to scoring goals following a passage of well coached play - as we are doing now.

The individual brilliance is playing second fiddle to, as ETH puts it - sticking to the plan. Attacking as a team, making the right choices/decisions. Once we get a proper striker, I have no doubt we will get out of this slump. But the approach is working.

Individual brilliance should always be a plan B.

How is he building on that team 2 years ago when Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Mctominay, Fred are bench players (Even Shaw's place looked shaky) ? Plus ones that left Pogba, Matic, Lingard etc

He is building his own team his way. There was nothing to be build on from Ole's reign, it was a disaster.
Why do we keep talking about Ole anyway? He should never have been more than interim and his time at the club doesn't warrant it.

Naa, we are breaking for a world cup in 2 weeks. All depends on how they return

Emotionally and physically tired I’d expect for all players. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if the second part of the season throws up an opportunity for some team that bucks the trend. That might simply be down to how many first team players that team has at the WC. I imagine city with their massive squad may be able to navigate it better than most not something I’ve seen any figures on for all the top clubs which is surprising as it would fill some column inches.

The posted I quoted said ETH is building on from Ole's team and I just disagreed. No one was bringing him up to compare him to ETH.

Just following his presser. He is the man to get tus back to the top, I’m so sure of it.

It’s why I and many others were going crazy over the prospect of missing out on him and getting Poch. Thank god the club made the right decision for once.

Yeah, but what does this "Casemiro" guy know? The folk on Talk Sport said Ten Hag is still a work in progress.
Not an ETH signing apparently. Forced on him by the board

I’m waiting to hear Declan Rice’s assessment of ETH before I get carried away.

Yep. Thought this Ole is great everyone else is inferior shit would stop.

It's funny you mention that because I was listening to a podcast the other day (think it was the BBC football daily one) and they said that Casemiro is a good short term option to get United back into the CL, so they can attract someone like Rice next season for the long term!

Ten Hag should be taking notes from these experts who have never managed a club before.

Was poking fun at the fact Talksport did a poll in which Rice came out comfortably on top

The most important differences between his reign (so far) vs Ole are the higher intensity of our play and the non reliance solely on counterattacking to create chances.

Ole was clueless. Was painful having to argue with people who couldn't accept that he obviously had been winging it from day one.

Dalot is clearly the best player in the team, so he is building from Jose's foundations.

Erik ten Hag is just a perfect fit for United. I already can't wait for next season. This season already would have been so different if we hadn't given everyone a 6-point headstart.

I just love the fact that he wants to win every game. And to see the likes of Varane and Casemiro who have seen/won it all at Madrid losing their shit when we win a game is really telling.

Not being afraid to drop anyone is also so refreshing. I'm 100% convinced that we will win something with this slaphead.

Say it again. This is a brand new project. It's nothing like Ole's foundation. Half of Ole's starters have already been replaced or demoted from the XI in the first 3 months alone. Then the likes of Rashford, Dalot, Shaw weren't brought here by Ole.

I've always said that when a player like Rashford is good enough, he can coach himself and have the best season of his career regardless of who is the manager. I'm excited to see what ETH can do with him, maybe he can finally become better than Mbappe.

When will this nonsense about Ole end? We did not rely solely on fast transitions and there are video proof on how that is actually wrong.

As some would have put it: Ole when he finished 2nd slightly overperformed his xPts but he did instill a certain mentality that saw the team do a lot of come back, and play with a certain confidence. Ten Hag is building from that team that finished 2nd with some transfers and not from that team that imploded the year after.
Building on Ole's team? Note that all of Ole major signings are not starters. Maguire, Wan Bissaka, Cristiano, Sancho, Van de Beek, Telles, etc.

From 14 signings only Bruno and Varane are key players. ten Hag is not building from that team. Saying that's is like saying we are building from Van Gaal, as Rashford and Shaw are still on the team.

Ole was a disaster, thank God all the major signings from ten Hag have been great (until now) so hopefully we keep that record and in 2-3 windows we have a competitive squad.

He was the only choice for me, wanted him in before Rangnick. I don't even wanna think about if we got Poch in, feck me we'd have been dire.

Funny how our best stating 11 when everyone fit currently includes more players that debuted under LvG (Rashford, Shaw, Martial) than under Ole (Varane, Bruno), given that LvG left 2.5 years before Ole started. Says it all about "building a good squad/laid good foundations for next manager/steady progess until the last season" argument that was very common here when he was "at the wheel" and immediately after he left. We were going nowhere and losing time and wasting resources.

Thankfully, under EtH there are enough reasons to be optimistic and think that it is not "another false dawn".

I still can't believe to this very day that Man Utd appointed a Molde Manager with his best achievement in his career was managing Cardiff (but got them relegated from PL) for 3 fecking years.

Ed is the biggest disaster ever happened to Man Utd in history. He almost destroyed everything built by SAF for 26 years.

Hopefully with ETH we hit the jackpot like Liverpool did with Klopp.

He built a decent front three in his first full season and should have left it there.
To be fair, Martial's form dropped dramatically in Ole's 2nd season. But United had Cavani to cover that spot and things still worked.

In Ole's last season, Greenwood dropped his form (Resorting to impatient shooting from outside the box), which gave room to the stories about how he clashed with Ronaldo. This was even before Greenwood's incident with his girlfriend. Meanwhile Cavani just kept getting injured. People criticized the Ronaldo signing with hindsight, but actually United had little choice back then. And I haven't even mentioned Rashford's bad form starting from a while before.

It's not that Ole didn't persist with Rashford-Martial-Greenwood out of whim. He just couldn't.

I’m absolutely certain Ole & Phelan wasn’t Ed’s masterplan but in fact SAF himself. I doubt Ed even knew who the feck they were.

Agreed though, it’s the most stupid managerial appointment imaginable, as though we just thought some bloke managing in Norway & not pulling up tress there in his second spell, was gonna come in and be a Pep/Klopp buster. Absolutely moronic. Loads of us called it from the off but feck me, 3 years in and soooo many fans were just as guilty as Ed, Fergie and the rest, convinced he was doing a good job.

Unbelievable.

100% agree with you. Ten Hag won’t want to build on anything from previous seasons. He’s putting his own stamp on things as we can tell because we’re a more possession based team now. Where as previously we’ve always been a counter attacking team.

I am not so sure. I think he was a bit dogmatic when he first came into the league. But I think he is going to build a team that can play different ways, depending on the opposition/circumstances -- as long as they win.

What a day and light regarding fan confidence and mood is between him and failed Cardiff manager. I didn't felt like this for ages.
With this guy in charge my mood regarding United is at sky again. Watching every single clip which i can find, reading every story in media, counting days until every game....i am literally feeling like a kid again.

I admit that during failed Cardiff manager era my happiness about United hit rock bottom. In his last season i would watch the game and move on until next one. Zero enthusiasm, zero optimism about present and especially about future. I was even watching games as a task, with zero reactions on goals scored or goals conceded.

Its refreshing for once that we don't have manager envy. I used to lament the fact our rivals have Klopp and Pep, and grew frustrated watching talents like Nagelsmann move to other club, while we persisted with our managers who were hopelessly out of their depth.

Feels like we're in good hands for the first time since Fergie retired. And the football is growing increasingly sexy to boot!

interesting comments from Casemiro talking about ETH's pure obsession with winning and the process of how to get there on a consistent basis
