The whole 'role' thing is weird for me to understand, I don't think Ronaldo was ever meant to play a bit part role. I think aside from the big games where pressing would be key EtH was always going to pick the best and most in-form player for the central striker spot and the position would have to be earned. That's probably still how it is.

We have just three recognized players that can play the number 9 role. It's just a shame from our perspective that Rashford clearly looks 10 times the player on the left, Martial is always injured and Ronaldo missed his pre-season and is woefully out of form. I'm really happy with the way things are heading under ten Hag but the striking role is a bit of a concern going forward. I hope Martial gets fit and stays that way or Ronaldo starts hitting some form again.

The only worrying thing for me is that these muppets might only be putting in performances now because the World Cup is next month.

We’ll see how motivated they are post WC.

Which muppets are you concerned about?

I'm surprised we haven't seen more youth get actual minutes when our first XI players aren't performing such as Sancho, I thought he would be quite trusting of them so I wonder whether they just genuinely aren't at the level we believed them to be yet, I'm talking about Pellistri, Mainoo, McNeil, Garnacho, Iqbal & Shola etc
I'm getting worried about Garnacho's lack of minutes. Isn't he now in the last year of his contract??
Contrasting reports on whether he signed a new one or not but for me the thing to note is he seems very eager and sure of himself and I don't want a PP repeat situation where he leaves to seek game time as I do think he could be good enough but just have to trust ETH

Garnacho is under contract for another few years as per the updates in his performance thread.

I’m surprised you’re surprised some of those youth players aren’t playing. We are still getting established in our style of play and building team chemistry means we should only really be chopping and changing when absolutely necessary.

Not the time for Ten Hag to be playing youth players just for the sake of it. Who would you take out of the side for any of them?!

Most of them that have all of a sudden found form before a major tournament. Rashford, Shaw, Dalot and Martial mostly, maybe Varane also.

Martial has been injured? Varane is now injured but starts for France anyway and I’m pretty sure Dalot and Shaw are squad regulars.

Rashford is the only one who needs to push for an England place.

This is the point that these so called 'pundits' don't seem to get which is surprising considering they were former professional players themselves.

If Ronaldo had performed in the games he's started and the the short cameo's we wouldn't even be having this conversation as he'd be starting. However that's not the case, we've played a lot better without Ronaldo than with Ronaldo and that's facts. Unless we should start players based on name and reputation and not on form. When Mctominay was starting for us earlier this season no one in the media came out and said oh it's a disgrace, Casemiro has been disrespected. He waited for his chance, performed and now he's probably first name on the team sheet !

What Rio is saying is that we should've told Ronaldo that if he's not up to scratch in terms of performances he won't be playing. Well considering he's one of the best of all time I would've thought he'd know that already. We're Manchester United not the Harlem fecking globetrotters.

If Ronaldo wants to start he'll have to outperform Rashford and Martial and he quite clearly hasn't. Martial has more goals and assists than him despite playing less than half the minutes...

If Ronaldo would have liked to have clarity about his role, he could have considered taking full part in preseason, to get used to Ten Hag's approach and allow Ten Hag to fully understand what roles Ronaldo could play in the squad.

For example.

Let it not be forgotten that Souness took over a Liverpool team that had just won the league and was on course to win the next one, sold good players (Beardsley, Hoghton), brought in a load of cloggers (Ruddock, Dicks. Paul Stewart) and had his photo cavorting with his girlfriend following his recovery from heart surgery published in the Sun on the third anniversary of Hillsborough.

Surely he's done enough to be forgiven by United fans for his current ravings?

Why have the ex-players except Gary Neville been so wide of the mark on this?
It's silly, but somehow I feel it's because he texts them, and that makes them feel relevant (when you're no longer a star in your own right, being able to know a GOAT level player is your mate perhaps gives some validation).

In the piece Rio did, just as he was about to start speaking, he apparently received a text from Ronaldo. You can easily see how there's no way they'll be objective here. The big shame is them throwing ETH under the box as a result of their tunnel vision.

Don't get how our ex-legends are taking Ronaldo's side here. You'll think playing under Fergie would make them believe the manager's side is the one to always take in such issues.
All what our ex players do (those who work as pundits) are moaning and criticism.
This shit with no7 Diva is FC Mates part II

Will they get text from their friend when he leaves? Don't think do.
Poor Gary, no more text for him...

Carragher's comment described this situation perfectly; "You are Rio Ferdinand, ffs. Don't be a fanboy".
Strange that Rio is still defending Ronaldo despite knowing fans opinion.

Can understand ex players backing there former team mate. Bet they all go round to his house for tea. No one ever backed pogba though when he had fall outs with mourinho etc. probably because he didn’t play with any of the old players. Can tell there all just biased… would they defend like rashford?? I know Keane wouldn’t, he’d say get rid he isn’t good enough just like he did about de gea. Sick of hearing our former players pick and choose who to defend… back the manager and back the team that he picks! It’s that simple

We are close. The tactics were perfectly fine and we were able to go through there midfield with ease when we had the ball. Funnily enough today, we needed a little bit more aggression from Bruno and especially Sancho during the first half, their passing in the last third was a bit too conservative. The short corners consistently displaced their defense but the players didn't go for the low on target crosses that I'm pretty sure were instructed.

In my opinion we are very close, an actual striker, the same Bruno that we have seen during the last two games, Rashford on the left and we are in business.

Yep I agree with this. Ideally a CM as well, Eriksen is doing alright but an actual playmaker there would be wonderful.

In five years time, Ten Hag will be away from United, and no one will talk about him at Man United,” said Souness. “I would have ironed it out with Ronaldo on day 1. I personally would use him very differently, I still think he’s got something to offer.

There is no such thing as the "Ronaldo argument". These pundits create some kind of fancy words and try to talk very seriously as if this is a thing.
Ronaldo has been silent all along while throwing tantrums in public view. It is childish. There is no logical explanation except that he is pissed off because of lack of gametime nowadays. Fair enough he should be, but it is a logical step considering that his output is almost non existent now.

I would fecking love it if Murtough went on record and said we wanted to sell Ronaldo this summer but no one would take him.

He has already clearly briefed this to journalists anyway while Ten Hag has publicly tried to not embarrass the guy by saying he is “important”, and trying to maintain respect towards him (despite being shown none in return, and then being battered in the press by people who should know better)

Genuinely, feck him and his apologists talking about disrespect, communication and the like.

Poor Gary, no more text for him...
His Vibe with 5 channel. Just as he was asked the question about his views, his phone buzzed and he made a point that it was Ronaldo.

He proceeded to shamelessly throw ETH under the bus with some idiocy about "not communicating" Ronaldo's role to him before the season started. It's like they've lost their collective brains.

As though a manager should be guaranteeing minutes regardless of episode after episode of horrendous performances.

That's brilliant if he said that.

oh the irony of a liverpool pundit bashing a United manager for how he's handling Ronaldo who threw a hissy fit not once but twice now for now being played and asked to come on in the last 10 minutes of a match

hell it only took what a week???

Thing is some of our so called "legends" are the ones that decided to throw a manager doing a decent job and standing firm on principals under the bus in their quest to defend the inexcusable behavior of one of their "mates".
The usual ABUs doubling-down is predictable.
Given the myriad of issues ETH has to deal with, this is quite a poisonous one that the media won't hesitate to inflate.
Said it earlier, seagulls the lot of them.

Eventually he’ll be right. If you whine every time we have a game, he’s bound to get what he is afraid of. He needs to start taking his meds again.
Can you clarify what exactly you are on about here?

The player's power have brought our club down for a decade. They threw manager after manager down the bus with their shameful performance.

Ronaldo is a cancer to the dressing room. Since his signing, our club was a shamble, dressing room leaks after leaks. Don't forget that to suit his style of play we had one of the lowest running stat in the league.

Fecks all the ex-players, no wonder players were so powerful previously. It's time to support the best manager we have after SAF retire. Return the power back to the manager as it should be.

We can always cherish our history as a football club and remember the moments, titles and players that we had

But now its about time that we'll tear down this "old" united mentality and build a new one. reinvent ourselves and brand ourselves differently.

I think that ETH will help us do this

I watched the full video and it's actually better to watch it rather than just reading tweet with limited context. Rio basically said that Ronaldo did wrong to walk out, and ETH did the right thing to punish him as he is setting the culture into the club. But he believes that ETH could have prevent this from happening if he would communicate with Ronaldo about his role.

Well, I'm not on any sides. I do think managing someone like Ronaldo requires something different compare to others but in reality not all managers will have the same kind of man management. ETH is ruthless and I like it.

IMO this could have been prevented if Ronaldo didn't skip the pre-season. Pre-season can be used to build fitness and get used to the new manager's system and to understand the manager's criteria or even to allow the manager to understand and know well about the player. Ronaldo missed the opportunity to work with ETH in pre-season, there was never a link between the two to begin with and it started by Ronaldo skipping the pre-season. Never underestimating the importance of pre-season.

Spot on. I do think missing the preseason is one of biggest mistake Ronaldo has ever made in his career, especially at his age, under new manager/system, and in WC year. It’s beyond stupid to miss the whole thing, and he is now suffering from the consequences - struggling with fitness level, adapting to new team style, and leading to the whole communication mess with the manager.

We're ready to let him walk out on a free last summer so we can take all this 'communicate about his role' bollock with a big pinch of salt I reckon.

When a club tells a player you can leave on a free that simply means you have absolutely nothing to do with their plan for the season ahead. Who would plan anything with someone who is ready to walk out at any moment?

Ronaldo wasn’t there in pre-season. 10Hag talked with him when he finally showed up.

This is such nonsense, only one to blame here is Ronaldo. How are supposed to plan for someone who is trying to leave and isn’t there?

He wasn’t fit enough to start some of the games he played. He is the only one responsible for this situation. He is 38 for feck’s sake.

Head down and try to contribute.

These “ex” players/pundits/teammates from United who seem to be going all out in support for Ronaldo are beginning to lose a bit of respect from me. Keane, scholes and Rio’s attempted defence of Ronaldos behaviour is becoming tiresome.

Keane, Rio etc defending Ronaldo when the whole (Manchester United, not Ronaldo) fanbase is not a bad idea. Keeps the back channel open, allows Ronaldo to have a way back in and start contributing productively. I'm sure this is what everyone wants. Even Ronaldo knows he's dug a hole too deep for even him to get out of unless he does miracles. Without the fan backing, he's a no body.

They're helping out their "mate" like starstruck little boys. Keane and Rio would love to see Ten Hag sacked and replaced with some mealy mouthed yes man who'll bow to media pressure and play Ronaldo for every minute of every match no matter how poorly he plays, which should make you wonder how much they actually care about United doing well. They're both making the exact same arguments, almost word for word, as Graeme fecking Souness. Neville seems to be the only one who values results and good football over sucking up to Ronaldo.

Doubt Ten Hag gives a single solitary shit what Rio Ferdinand and Roy Keane have to say about the situation. It's been made quite clear who the manager is and who makes the decisions. Ronaldo either falls in line and gets on with his job without being a childish prick, or he will never play. Simple as

Anyone who cares for United should be fully supportive of the manager. Those defending Ronaldo and attempting to imply anyone at the club has done wrong or caused this situation can feck off

But it is bloody annoying and harmful when they voice their idiotic opinion who is just plain wrong
