Delighted for him and that win. Got the calls right. Tweaked the tactics and got it all bang on.

With Martinez, Malacia and Casemiro on the way, seems like we actually made that "open heart surgery" of the team. Warriors all over suddenly and it looks like Antony if he is signed has a lot of fight in him as well.

Necromancer: Brought the dead to life.

So many new signings in the XI. Showed that to go forward we need to clear the decks and get him better players.

Please Erik don't ever play Shaw + maguire again.

He's put out our best back 4 tonight and hopefully he recognises this.
Here, I fixed it for you: "Please Erik don't ever play Shaw or maguire again."

:)

There is a great expression in Japanese that characterizes what happened tonight under leadership of Ten Hag:

Kishi Kaisei

"To come out of a desperate situation and make a complete return in one sudden burst".

He sounds like he knows what to do and I have complete faith in his vision & commitment in bringing success back to this great club.

Really important win for him, specially after those decision regarding team selection, glad for him. On other hand still want him to move pricks out of squad, there is no point having feckers on the bench looking like their pet died while leading vs Liverpool.

Martinez loves the manager, if he gets Antony that’s any player who will run all day for the manager.

A few more and the shift in the dressing room will be a lot easier.

So we scrapped playing from the back this game, I hope it is only in isolated cases and he is not giving up on it.

But...but...treating grown men like a bunch of school kids by making them run 13.8k as a punishment will alienate him from the players and tire them for the next game...:D

Alienated the soft cnuts and played the real hard boys tonight. The fighters with spirit and a will to fight. Add Casemiro to this team and we will be a very difficult team to play against.

So pleased for him, made some big calls he would've been crucified if we lost.

It's clear he knows what he wants and if this is the sign of things to come it's gonna be good

Loving the 'got to get the attitude right first' stuff. Fans have said for long enough players were just going through the motions and couldn't really care. A cuddle from Ole and all was well. Didn't take Erik long to suss it out and do something about it. There was a shot of Shaw and Maguire sitting next to each other on the bench that said so much. It'll come as a major surprise to much of the media but fans do actually know what they're talking about at times.

Signalled out Varane a lot, clearly he does not see Maguire as a starter anymore

He said he wanted to play long the previous game post-match but the players ignored him or something along those lines.

people are talking like he sacrificed his ideals. We pressed high all game and played out from the back.

I've never been more disappointed in a full time manager here.

I expected shit with Moyes and Mourinho, and didn't expect too much from Ole and van Gaal.

I thought ten Hag would be good, though. I thought we finally hired a manager who understood the importance of press resistant players. Nope. Fill the squad with more shite in Eriksen and Casemiro.
Still disappointed?

Had the balls to drop maguire, shaw and ronaldo. That’s the kind of manager we need. A manager who knows what is best for the team. He made the right substitutions and got it right tactically. I have not seen this team play with passion for more than a year now, great to see the spirit and aggression on the pitch. Thank God, no we apologise and we go again interview from maguire

He must be happy as feck with the result! And the effort and mentality! But the type of football? 29% possession. A bit curious how he sees us move on from here.

Terrible display and result obviously.

Hoped things wouldn't be this bad. However this is where conviction is tested. If you want change, you need to keep believing and stay supportive in the bad times. Obviously there's not much positives to take from this. It would be silly to try to give this a positive spin. Nevertheless, many individual errors caused this.

First goal, you just can't coach that one. Last goal Maguire just lets his opponent run away from him, causing Martinez having to chase him rather than to occopy the space in the middle (where he could have intercepted the cross). The second and 4th goal are more results of a team that's work in progress. Obviously DDG shouldn't play the ball to Eriksen there, but this is something that can happen when you're trying to transition a team from long ball football to passing it out from the back (even when under pressure). Tough luck that this costs a goal now and this could happen more often, but in all honesty that's the things you have to go through if you want things to change like this. You don't change a counterattacking team to a tiki-taka team overnight without mistakes made. Mistakes, even if costly, are part of that process.

The goal conceded from the set piece is pretty much the same. Organization obviously was very bad there. Eriksen marking Toney is not the right set-up. After that Martinez makes the choice to cover the goalline but is then caught out when the ball isn't headed towards the far corner but squared. He's just out of position at that point as he decided to move backwards to cover the goalline and from there on he stands no chance to win that header. For me the Eriksen/Toney matchup is worse than Martinez making a choice that could have worked but backfired in the end. Moreover, it was also a good corner by Brentford. Nevertheless coaches will always view conceded goals from set plays as mistakes so I'm pretty sure this will be analized thoroughly so things will improve.

For me the most worrying thing was the total helplessness of the team in the first half. There was clearly also something wrong with the mentality / resiliance of this team. They were just overrun and didn't seem to have any fighting spirit. EtH clearly got angry at half time. The second half was much better. Granted that Brentford probably took it down a notch in intensity but they were never going to keep that up for 90 minutes anyway. Besides that United clearly had a different intensity in the second half themselves. United were much better on the ball in the second half and looked like a decent team, whereas in the first half United looked like a League 2 team.

Wonder what EtH is going to do now. This is obviously shocking and he can't have 4 results like this. On the other hand, stepping away from his plan so early doesn't bode well for the future. He'll have to find some kind of middle ground in which he can get the results in on shorter notice, whilst working on the long term plan as well. That may be a very difficult puzzle though.

I'll do a crazy prediction though, United will beat Liverpool next week.

Wasn't so hard was it?

Next few matches we'll see if this is a turnaround. Not quite sure about that yet. Today everyone expected United to lose. From now on United will be expected win again. Different pressure. Also a different ballgame. Today against a team that wants to play and gives away some space. Even then United gave the ball away too easy many times. In both halves Uniteds energy ran out after 25/30 mins. Against a team that plays defensive Inited will have to be way better in possession to create chances. Next week we'll see whether United can also deliver in different circumstances.

Nevertheless an encouraging and inspiring performance. United definitely look better without Dirty Harry and Rusty Ronnie. Good choices by EtH to leave them out.

Still disappointed?

What a fukced-in-the-head post by @Yagami. By all means be disappointed in the performances against Brighton and Brentford and lay some of that on the manager, but to call ETH out like that and then moan about Casemiro being a shit signing. Mind-boggling stuff.
