I think the club are worried if they sack him, without having a guaranteed replacement lined up, they may end up with their 3rd/4th/5th/whatever choice appointment.

It's very disrespectful to ETH, who knows that he keeps his job if SJR doesn't find anyone better. What a way to inspire confidence.

What a way to start the new regime also..

Why is it seen as wrong to be sounding out potential other candidates? Even while ETH is still here?

Has everyone suddenly suffered from collective amnesia in regards to how absolutely awful we were last season?

I'd be really cheesed off if INEOS hadn't been talking to other managers. It would actually constitute incompetence on their part.

Stop talking sense!

Reportedly Ten Hag didn't want to work with him as they had a conversation and their ideas for the path United should take, especially in terms of recruitment didn't meld.

Apparently Rangnick wasn't a big on buying from the Eredivisie.

Rangnick was to be a consultant for Murtough.

The day we missed out on the Sheikh was the day we settled for mediocrity.

Considering Qatar's comparatively abysmal record with their psg project, tou would have been settling for mediocrity with them, also.

Amongst other things.

Regardless of how you want to dress it, interviewing candidates whilst the current manager is on holiday is really poor and unprofessional.

Should they wait until he comes back off his jollies to start looking?

Imparting emotion into the situation (oh think how he must feel, they've gone behind his back, poor Erik) and making a decision based on feelings is really poor and unprofessional. They're not mates! They're employer and employee, and the employee is no longer suitable for the role.

In fact, how do you even think what they're doing is unprofessional for a football club that has lofty ambitions?

I swear I'm going absolutely mad at some of the stuff being said here

How is that wrong?

Because he has a contract at Manchester United. It is disrespectful and bath faith to be interviewing candidates for the job, especially when its public knowledge. Not even 1 manager, multiple managers, which shows they want him.

If they dont want him, man up and tell him instead of waiting of waiting around.

How do you know that INEOS have lofty ambitions? From the initial signs, their ambition looks top 4 at best.

I’m concerned with that too. Ten Hag said there already is one (one that fits the club imo; fast attacking football).

I hope that whatever they cook up is something we like.
Which we don't even play under him, but I'm sure you'll disagree.

because if he ends up staying which is likely the morale will be down the drain.

If we’ve made up our mind to sack him then fair enough, sack him first then look for replacements.

Everything with United has to be protracted, delayed, speculated for at least 10 million times, 5000 pages written here. Cant be simple business, can it...
Why should they clarify matters before they have to when it's generating big online interest? If I remember correctly, they announced at a quarterly review three or four years ago how much traffic transfer rumours generated so they'll be loving the numbers this is producing. I get the impression they are firm believers of 'there's no such thing as bad publicity' combined with Wilde's principle that not being talked about is worse than being talked about.

this place will take that very well, surely....

It really isn't. He's shown no signs of succeeding long term at United. It would be incompetent of them not to look for a manager that more fits their ideals and potential sporting structure.

I mean, alright then mate :+1:

Is that a fact? You know this for sure, right?

I don't fecking understand this delay. It's embarrassing to the club as well. For all that PR of how this Berarda- Cox - Ashton is going to transform us , this is what's happening.

Either press the button or come out and say he stays.
What’s cox got to do with it?
Who is Ashton? Dean?

then sack him. Not this useless dithering

If he has explicitly ignored medical advice, yes. Which I don't think is the case here.
There's this recurring theme to a lot of Caf posts, which identify the repeated mistakes made by the supporting structure, and point out (correctly) that they're not ETH's primary job responsibilities - but completely hand-wave away the fact that it's still in his interest to plan and adjust his actions accordingly.

Recruitment staff keeps wasting money on signings and is willing to pay a massive transfer fee for Antony? Not ETH's responsibility to push back, even though the spending here will directly impact our ability to get improve the squad in future windows.

Medical staff keeps clearing players too early and they repeatedly get injured again? Not ETH's responsibility to push back and play it safe, even though playing the cleared players right away will just lead to more injuries.

This is truly a joke…. They should’ve had this figured out and been confident one way or the other. Hopefully that changes once we have Ashworth and others in place.

Whatever the announcement may be, this is not a good look for Manchester United. Hopefully the time INEOS have taken will result in great things but as right now we're the butt of jokes as to the incompetence of the management of this club.

It feels like we are shopping around for an interim manager that can work with what we have until our footballing structure is in place and our footballing plan properly formulated and we can have the right people then drawing up a shortlist and interviewing managers who then match the agreed structure.

This is why I thought TT was a good fit but obviously not.

You're really missing the point here, this is not whether he is the right man to stay in the job or not, you are clearly confused what we are discussing.

I have no issues for them to look for another manager.. have the decency to sack the one you have in place first.

It shows lack of professionalism when you are talking to managers behind their back.

So I guess you dont mind managers players all agreeing deals whilst being in a job?

If they come out and back ETH now, the narrative will automatically be that INEOS couldn’t bring anyone else in. The dithering really hasn’t helped anyone in that regard, least of all ETH.

At this point, if INEOS stuck with ETH they could spin it favorably -- "after thorough review, Erik ten Hag brilliantly managed the club through severe adversity" -- but there really is no doubt that they've done irreparable harm to his reputation as manager. And IMO if they keep him ETH all they've done is set him up for the sack at the first possible sign of slippage in the new season.

Agreed that’s the only way they could reasonably spin it, but nobody will really be buying that.

As someone who thinks ten hag should be gone for bringing antony in alone, as should every single person invlved in that transfer, this is utterly shameful from the club.

Either stick with him and say so, or ship him out and start looking for someone else.

All this stuff is just trashy behaviour. Something I expect from the glazers in fact. So no change so far.

It seems that there wont be any assurances about squad improvement. All the reports and signs point to a below par window.

I think we will get a max of 4 players in this summer.

If its 4 nailed on first teamers thats not a bad window. 4 squad players and I would be very worried about next season, whoever is in charge.

My opinion only, but I thought Tuchel was the only possible upgrade from the list of candidates being mentioned. Now that they have seemed to bin him I’m not sure where they go from here. They’ve been utterly disrespectful of EtH in this process and it would be very hard to keep him in post with any sort of confidence, as they clearly seem to be looking for someone better. Who that now is remains to be seen - as long as it’s not Southgate! INEOS really need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to save face now imo.

Remember this time 2 weeks ago when we all thought we'd have clarity by 1st June

Most of us don't go out of our way to find these pointless tweets, I'm not really sure why people bother posting them in here, unless its to wind folk up.
There are some real crackers to be fair, the reactions are entertaining at least

Let's be honest, there's not really anyone at all to take over.

Much as I'm sick to the back teeth of ETH, who do you pick who's out there?

Don't really blame them for not choosing someone yet but they should just come out and say ETH is staying and crack on with summer business.
