I suppose you could say that our clueless fans don't want him, so he'd probably be great. Whatever we suggest, do the opposite basically.

I don't want him either. But I do think we'd be better under him than ETH.
You seriously think Southgate is a better Coach than Ten Hag?. Who is the clueless one mate?

Any new manager is a gamble ….Tuchel would be a gamble worth taking.

Ten Hag has already clearly demonstrated Utd won’t be winning the PL with him as manager.

With all Tuchel temperament and how he booted out of the clubs after falling out with board and now with Bayern stint you can’t say this hire will demonstrate vision from INEOS.

It's as funny as the ones claiming they would be happy with Arteta like progess: 8th, 8th and 5th. Our fanbase are nuts.

You just don't get it Robbie, we finished 8th this season. And we could finish 8th next season, but if we're just patient enough. 3-4 years from now we could be finishing 2nd. It's a process, look at Arsenal they were patient for 5 years and now they've been rewarded with er... ...well yes they still haven't actually won anything of note yet. But they certainly might do one day.

Agreed the 11 years post SAF have drove most of us nuts in one way or another.

I need to know what @Plant0x84 makes of this. The biggest INEOS-inner during the last year and they are about to lump us with Gareth bloody Southgate

I also see us signing a LOT of English players over the next years. The Brexit Jim thing ain't a myth.
You’re already seeing it with the amount of english/british players we’re linked with

I see many arguments in regard to progression that Ten hag isn't meeting . Arteta 8, 8, 5. Klopp 8 , 4 .

The torpedoing comment is in regards to giving oneself a chance to show progression .
Overachieving in a first season makes it incredibly difficult . 3, 2, 1?

I might be interpreting the demands of the fanbase incorrectly , but when looked at , top 4 , implement play style , then continuos upward progress until ultimate goal is reached , doesn't seem to be the same parameters that were applied to Arteta .

He'd have gone after 8 , nevermind , 8 , 8.

The frustration for me , is that regardless of who we get , unless they get an incredible amount of luck , they just aren't going to satisfy the unrealistic criteria enough to allow themselves the time required to build a top team
Arteta is a bad comparison to EtH at United and will always be. Simply because it's Arteta's first job in management it had to be expected that he would struggle. EtH on the other hand has got a decade of management experience before arriving at United, similarly to Klopp. Applying different criteria to managers with such different careers is fair. But despite having said that a novice Arteta has shown a better trajectory than EtH. Yes it looked quite bad in his early seasons but still he improved results they got.

Overachieving in the first season indeed can be a problem to prove progress, but I don't think that's the case for EtH. I think it's fair to consider the 3rd place finish last season overachieving, but progress should mean that this season you get a deserved 3rd place finish after an undeserved 3rd place. It should never mean getting a lucky 8th place finish. This kind of downward trajectory in every metric hasn't been seen in Klopp's Liverpool in his early years and hasn't been seen under Arteta at all so far.

The decision should already be made on Ten Hag, the fact it's not and if Southgate is brought in as replacement will prove the club remains incompetent as ever regardless of all the media hype that INEOS would change things for the better.

Why am I seeing Southgate’s name again? They’re surely not that stupid?

If we replace ETH with Frank, Southgate or Poch I worry about this new board. I want ETH gone but not for those names.

You struggle to read posts. That much is clear.

I said his extended stubbornness will likely get him sacked. My personal opinion is to give him time to fix it, knowing his form has been sackable. That is because he's more adaptable than you're claiming, and he has form for doing better than what we've seen.

If the market was buzzing with candidates that are sure things I wouldn't blink. But there are big risks with every candidate.
It is also patently clear that you struggle to know what English words mean. Someone who messes things up due to inexplicable,long-running stubborness cannot be described as being adaptable. And I am not 'claiming' anything-throughout the season he has proven to anyone with eyes how pigheaded he is.As for having form for doing better, the only form I have seen is endless excuses while looking clueless.

And this 'right candidate' thing that people keep spouting about is a mirage. There is no 'right candidate' that is picked off a supermarket shelf AND league titles appear like magic. What is needed is a professional/professionals who exhibits identifiable and incremental progression year after year. It can be one manager or a succesion of them. The guiding philosophy every year (or two) should be: hire-give targets-assess-keep or boot.

Apart from Klopp and Pep,who are these sure-thing candidates that you want the market to 'buzz with'? So we persist with a subpar manager until this 'market buzz'appears? Life, even away from football,is full of risks. But standing still is retrogressing and can be fatal. Waiting to find out if he can improve next season can be very costly and that is why this fraud needs to be fired like yesterday.

INEOS cannot bang on about hiring best in class and then appoint Gareth fecking Southgate as manager.
Only thing is - the 'best in class' appointments (CEO, Sporting Director, Technical Director) were made by INEOS. Whereas the manager appointment would likely not be directly made by INEOS.

I still cannot believe that the supposed “footballing” people have identified Southgate as the guy  Surely they’re having these journos on - because what the feck

So we have gone from job for boys to job for boys.

Its funny when everytime United hired a new member, it was job for the boys because they had worked with them... I.E Murthough, Richard Arnold.

INEOS are doing the same, we have hired Berrada, who in turn has brought in Cox, Communications director who both worked with him at City.

Ashworth wants to bring Sougthgate who he has worked with at England.

Welcome to United where jobs are for mates.

But Ashworth isn’t even employed by us yet.

Why is everyone on here panicking over a few third rate journalists mentioning that Southgate “could” be a possibility?

Whether it's rumours, agents pushing or straightforward clickbait garbage the Southgate stuff just isn't going away. Maybe the reaction is always so big it'll keep generating the clicks wanted until the truth comes out. The alternative that it is actually genuine is too much to bear.

There isn't a point in his career where Delaney has been remotely close to reliable.

If Ten Hag stays then they surely have to give him a new contract as he will be a dead man walking otherwise going into this season.

Really taking a lot of stock on some rumours.

Maybe Southgate's name is floated to make the upcoming contract extension for ETH more palatable. Already every 10th post on here is "I am an ETH outter but I rather have him than Southgate".

Hope no players or agents are following this spectacle. Embarrassing for INEOS. I'd resign if I was ten Hag.

If we hire Southgate, it'll be the most united the fanbase has been since Fergie was in charge. Just for the exact opposite reason.

Players are usually back the last week of June, meaning for the ones not playing the Euros, they will have 4 weeks rest. (FA Cup was the 25th May, and in two weeks it will be Monday the 24th June.)
Think it was early July last year. And (as you say), plenty will have longer due to Euros… a good month away yet

So bizarre

This is what I think too, what better way to get fans ok board if ETH is staying than to let everyone think Southgate is coming in.

This is a joke now, really worrying.
He's been fired and they're sorting out his replacement.

Regardless, I think they're waiting for the Euro's to start to bury the news under all the England stuff. Whatever they announce now goes out into the void for a week to be picked over and over analysed until the Euro's kick off and people have something else to focus on.

Leave or stay the amount of time it's taking is so Glazer esque and we are lead to believe Joel Glazer will be involved in the decision it then makes you wonder about other decisions like the delay with Ashworth etc and you wonder if this is going to be any different?

If he stays then they most likely leave it until the 2nd half of the season and let him go for nothing if we’re in a bad position or renew for a year or 2 if he surprises and has a good season. Alternatively he stays and we start of very poorly and then he gets sacked mid season which puts us in a bad position.

I dunno. We was quick to sack, mourinho, LVG, Ole. All under the glazers.

Yeah, the Arsenal blueprint just seems the best way to go. I mean, 4.5 seasons and 1 FA Cup. Not to mention 2.5 utterly underwhelming seasons while bottling 4th place to Spurs.
