People saying he has a contract and no announcement is required, I am the opposite, the way the club have handled this, they do need to put a statement out.

If not, his first presser will all be about his future and we dont want to start the pre season like that.

After a week of reviewing, the club are still talking to agents, the writing is on the wall. You dont carry out a review then talk to agents unless you are sacking the manager.

He is going into the final year of his contract and if he is to stay on the back of so much speculation, without a new contract, it would just seem the board are looking for an opportunity to sack him in the next 12 months.
Wouldn't this be by far the best option though? If he stays and the season goes wrong again, Ratcliffe can sack him with zero pressure and money compensation. If he turns it around and we go better than expected, he can offer him a new contract and put this freak season behind us. Poch and Tuchel are not going anywhere in the mean time. They aren't exactly the highest prizes and few clubs are looking for managers currently. They'll still be available in December

On that note, why the hell would we be going for a manager who just had a WORSE season than ETH and hasn't won shit throughout his career? This is just mind-boggingly stupid. Might as well just get Ole back.

You mean a manager who's team eventually finished above ours after being 14th for the first half of the season and who outscored us by 20 goals and 30xG?

Because I'm a virgin in my 30's and I never leave my bed, I was thinking about this situation last night before I slept

If INEOS have decided to keep him, even if they only decided after a week of deliberation and talking to other managers, would it be a good idea if they made Ten Hag reveal it himself? Maybe just by speaking to some random Dutch reporter. He could play it off like he knew since after the cup final that he was staying but didn't say anything yet because he was enjoying his holiday and didn't see the need to talk about it. INEOS could then just stay quiet and let it be, giving the impression there was never any serious issue

It was Poch who had them at 14th too. What has Poch won in England? Ten Hag has won 2 trophies in 2 seasons.

Would certainly agree that it’s the best angle to play it if it was the case.

“In 2010, Frank de Boer was appointed manager of Ajax and led the club to its first league title in seven years, and record 30th title overall, in the 2010–11 season. This was followed by back-to-back wins in 2011–12 and 2012–13 to match his three consecutive titles as a player in the 1990s. In 2013–14, Ajax was again Eredivisie champions, winning four consecutive league titles for the first time in club history.[23] After finishing as runner-up to PSV in both 2014–15 and 2015–16, de Boer resigned as Ajax head coach in May 2016.”

Just to add context as like people mentioned before ETH was appointed, it’s not much different to what De Boer achieved and he lasted 4weeks probably less at Inter Milan because they couldn’t believe how poor he was. We should all be aware what happened at Crystal Palace too.

This was always ETH potential red flag and he hasn’t really done things from a coaching perspective to suggest much different. Literally EVERY ajax fan would tell you this ' it’s not much different to what De Boer achieved ' statement is laughable..

Dude, reading some Wikipedia page doesnt tell you the whole story about Frank de Boer vs Ten Hag..

Its a HUGE difference.. If you ask 10 Ajax fans how they rate Frank de Boer 7 or 8 would tell you he was horrible for Ajax and a lot of fans lost their love for the club during that time because of the style of play and how he set us up.. There are literally books written about this and the revival of Ajax being Ajax under Ten Hag (and Peter Bosz shortly before that)..

Peter Bosz and Erik Ten Hag every year at Ajax exceeded Frank de Boer's amount of maximum amount of points by a large margin. The style of play Ten Hag implemented and got results with is far far far from comparable with Frank de Boer.

Besides that.. Looking at what Ten Hag did in Europe (also bar the 18/19 semi final CL campaign) it far above par what Ajax did the past 20 years and far above what Frank de Boer did with Ajax..

Appreciate the insight, shame people won’t listen if it doesn’t suit!

It could work, but they've also quite clearly briefed the entire media that they were starting some Apprentice-style deliberation process immediately after the FA Cup.

Which the more I think about it the more fecking pathetic and small time it seems. Whether you back or sack Ten Hag that decision should have been made long before the FA Cup.

Announcing to the entire media you're going to review his performance is so demeaning. I'd tell them to feck off if I was him.

He's won a bigger league title than Ten Hag.... tier 2 vs tier 3
PSG should be winning that league every single year. He also bottled that league to Lille. Look where Ajax was after ETH left.

We need to do that or else he will walk.
Perhaps that is why the club is quiet at the moment?
A new contract being drawn up and prepared and Eric to sign it at OT just like Robbo did when Atkinson signed him from West Brom.
That will get a few posters foaming at the mouth.:D

The only way this makes sense if we're still negotiating with managers and waiting for things to be 100% complete before saying anything. I agree if Ten Hag is staying we won't come out with a big announcement but surely we would have found a way to let the fans and everyone know the club is behind the manager and put end to any speculation?

That doesn't paint Ten Hag in the positive picture you think it does. Besides go look at the leagues top 10 most expensive signings and they're nearly all under Ten Hag. So he spent a lot and it crumbled when he left....great!

He also played some of the best football in Europe whilst there. Not sure if their current manager continued that.

Agree but I think the way it was worded at the time made it possible to backtrack. As they said it'll be a general review of the season and future planning, including Ten Hag's position. So they could make out like the Ten Hag part was a small, standard thing they'll do every close season anyway, even if we win the treble. And could say that it didn't take long to decide his future and 99% of the discussion was regarding other matters.

Why the feck are we talking about Southgate? It won't be Southgate so stop fear mongering.

Oh, but it will. Especially if Sir Gareth wins the Euros with Sir Gareth's England.

Mates with senior figures at the club, including Ashworth. British to impress Sir Jim. His winning feck all enough of a marginal gain to impress Sir Dave. Blanc and Berrada will be shouting about it but they can pick up their 'voluntary' redundancy money on the way out.

We are going to be a British club for a British people with our new Wembley Of The North, named after Lord Kitchener, Margaret Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth 1 and 2. Public money, see. Well spent. We are Manchester of the United Kingdom and we deserve to win.

We'll rule the waves and Ineos will add more desperate supplicants to their bulging portfolio. UEFA will bend to the British will as we hold all the cards. They'll be begging to join us and play in our Super League, exclusive to Ineos members. Indeed, the only reason Real play in the CL is because we have access to it. I can imagine Florentino Perez is already on the blower to Saviour Jim, who is mulling over whether those twerps deserve to play in anything but the soon-to-be-knighted Dan 'The Man' Ashworth's British garden.

Silly ten Hag is on a high wage whereas we proper supporters feed on scraps?

All that stops when Lord Gareth arrives.

My theory is they want him to resign. That way the fanbase is not turned against INEOS. No mention of him by Rat on Cliff, during his remarks. After winning FA Cup? After beating — comprehensively — our biggest rivals, making them wear silver medals with red ribbons? After getting Europe, and displacing Chelsea and Newcastle Saudi barcodes?
Such a failure of class.

If they are even somewhat competent they shouldn't care about any of that.

It’s not really like that with one bad (De Boer) and one good (Ten Hag). Overmars started building with De Boer when the club was a mess. There was turmoil and revolution everywhere in the club. De Boer did a great job to stay calm and just focussing on the first team and win the Championship back to back, with a very poor team. With Bosz better players came, from the youth academy where they changed a lot in the De Boer years and from buying players because there was more money available after the Championships and CL money. Bosz had a talented squad but played a bit naïeve, also in de EL final against us. Ten Hag played with a bit more realisme and defended better but he profited of all the work done by Overmars, De Boer and Bosz. By then they had a very talented group of players from their own youth academy and also had a lot of money after years of CL football, EL final and the sale of some players to buy expensive and good players. The scouting network Overmars had by then was very impressive. The last half year of Ten Hag at Ajax was already very difficult, the football was bad and Ten Hag changed his system to two strikers. The last years Ajax fell way back because they fired Overmars after sending dick pics to female staff. They miss Overmars and his organization and scouting much more than the miss Ten Hag.

I've been patient about this but it's dragging out a bit now. Clubs don't have to announce they are keeping a manager, but after last season and the strong rumours, it's something they have to do. Doesn't it also make it harder to negotiate with players, both incoming and present, when they don't know who will be manager?

Either back him or sack him but don't have this become a shambles. Although if the plan is to wait for Southgate, it doesn't really matter in the end anyway.

I think it's clear to everyone that some sort of statement should be made, they're not stupid.

I wasn’t trying to compare, as like for like the comparables are always likely to be different. I appreciate the background to the titles and I’m not going to pretend I watched loads of games but to caveat this. You are talking about a team that had De Jong, De Light and Van De Beek on the horizon, yes there where additions to that but previous teams never had that quality.

That run consisting of 2 draws against Bayern, the 4-1 against Real and 2-1 against Juve.

Other than that they did nothing of note in European competition in any other season

But you think Poch is better who has done worse... He had a PSG team and couldn't win a league there, no trophies in England, No style of play.

He also won the league 4 times in a row. Before that they came 2nd 4 times in a row and after ETH they came 3rd and 5th.

well this is getting a bit weird now isn't it?

Are INEOS just planning on making no announcement, and we just continue with this guy now as if nothing has happened? This is turning into an absolute farce of a situation.

Pochettino won a league title, a ‘Coupe de France’ and a ‘Trophée des Champions’ (i think it’s a French community shield but not certain). He absolutely has a definable style of play, he’s been in England long enough for you to know that by now?

that would be very strange indeed

the fan-base need to know

He’s never won the league four times in a row

Also, reductive analysis. He took over a team that missed out on the league by 1 point, meaning it was a competitive team (as Ajax generally is in the Dutch league). He pushed them over the line though, and won the league with them, but Ajax sold damn near their whole first team since - so it’s no surprise they’ve failed to find their footing since.

These are some of the players that have left them in the last two years:

Antony
Licha
Haller
Gravenberch
Tagliafico
Onana
Mazraoui
Blind
Timber
Kudus
Tadic
Alvarez
Bassey
Klaasen

But you think Poch is better who has done worse... He had a PSG team and couldn't win a league there, no trophies in England, No style of play.

You’re wrong.

You are literally asking for what has already been happening in every press conference for a few weeks prior to the cup final.

INEOS are staying quiet and not giving any impression there is a serious issue, apart from a review which was meant to have happened before the end of the season. EtH has been maintaining he is here next year.

Then only people who made an issue were like two journalists, which was then copy and pasted by every other outlet with most back tracked, and of course EtH out fans.

But you think Poch is better who has done worse... He had a PSG team and couldn't win a league there, no trophies in England, No style of play.

Poch's Spurs did knock Ten Hag's Ajax out of the CL semis in 2019. They also knocked out Pep's 115 Charges FC in the quarters that year. It was probably one of the more improbable CL runs by an underdog side, and if not for a dumb opening penalty and Dele Alli's constant misfires they had a great shot in the Final, Liverpool didn't look all that great that day.

It is certainly fair to call out Poch's lack of success in England, granted it is Spurs, and losing the title to Lille in France. His Chelsea side looked better than Ten Hag's United side this season, and both clubs were in disarray throughout. Would Poch fare better at United? Maybe, maybe not.

If they're actively looking for a replacement then the decision is already made, and presumably they're just waiting for Ten Hag to return so they can let him know face to face, rather than through a text, or twitter
It will be Tuchel, I bet.
I am so unexcited by Tuchel, but angered by even the thought of Poch.
It's Southgate, lads.
My guess is that he is going to stay.
If he wasn't he would of been already sacked.
Fairly confident that it won’t be Southgate just from a purely logistical point of view.
There's zero chance if Ten Hag is sacked now, it'll be Southgate, that's just common sense. If he stays and is sacked in a few months time? Then, it's obviously a possibility.
I have a strange feeling that if they do sack ETH, they will get Poch in.
This is beyond ridiculous. Wtf is INEOS doing?
All in the last 2-3 pages. This thread in a nutshell.
Southgate, Poch, Tuchel, Ten hag staying, going, the feck is Ineos doing.

That doesn't paint Ten Hag in the positive picture you think it does. Besides go look at the leagues top 10 most expensive signings and they're nearly all under Ten Hag. So he spent a lot and it crumbled when he left....great!

Compared to Poch who had some of the best players in the world and still lost out to Lille.
