We changed tactics frequently this season in big games. The strategy has been the same: utilizing our fast wingers, playing out the back and through the press. We have played long balls in behind all season, as well as played through the middle.

Defensively we were very good, but not flawless. We showed great teamwork and cohesion, but failed to deal with some of their overloads. Not a shame, City is good at those.

Our best performance was when in possession actually.

Some of our poorest games this season saw us giving the ball away almost continuously. And yet, against one of the best pressing sides in the world, we barely misplaced the ball, played through their press and factually destroyed their tactics.

So, how is it we can keep the ball against Cheaty and could not against Palace or Brentford?

Some of it is related to personnel, but the big reason is teamwork. Everyone doing their job, following instructions to a t.

EtH and staff pulled out all the stops to get the team motivated for this game and the tactics were rehearsed against Newcastle and Brighton. The result was a performance level that many didn’t think was possible anymore under Ten Hag.

You might say Ten Hag’s attacking tactics cannot work at this performance level. They will if we are even half as good on the ball as against Cheaty, and with squad improvements that are needed regardless.

Surely this is just evidencing how bad ETH has done all season? He has a squad which is capable of going toe to toe with one of the world’s best teams and his tactical incompetence has meant that we’ve looked awful against teams like Wolves, Palace etc.

He seems a nice enough guy but he’s failed with his transfers, he’s failed with his tactics and I don’t trust his ability to even judge the players he is training. I see absolutely no basis for keeping him.

I’d be very interested in seeing a list of our best 5 league performances this season. Maybe Arsenal away as the best? Chelsea at home? Struggle to get past those two.

It is not the tactics, it is performance levels. Against Palace we lost the ball constantly, that is performance. Defensively players weren’t covering for each other.

I’d say based on Mainoo’s development and players like McT, Dalot, Højlund, AWB etc he’s doing well with player development.

How do you explain the Athletic one (75%) or Andy Mitten's own poll with 60k votes (85%) on Twitter then? If you don't trust those, United We Stand had one which was heavily in favour too. But yeah, it's opposition fans on RedCafe that are tipping the balance.

The consensus has not moved to keep him at all. Looking at the poll, the consensus to sack him (80-20) has moved to there being no consensus, 50-50.

They do, mostly London clubs and a few Pool supporters ….Utd are the big joke to them, though they’d actually prefer Southgate at Utd

Amongst the match going fans its very much in favour of keeping Ten Hag. Likewise in other forums like the United subreddit.

As much as I enjoy the Caf, I do feel like it tends to swing more towards the negative narrative.

I basically don't know an avid Ten Hag out fan outside of this forum. It's quite weird.

I don't think that it's about swinging towarads he negative. I'm almost sure to remember that it has been the same trend since 2013, everyone eventually joins the Caf but they are just very slow, though they call it patience unless it's everyone other than the manager.

Yeah neither do I. There was certainly more parity when it came to the likes of Moyes and to a lesser extent - late stage Solskjaer, but with Ten Hag it feels like there's a complete narrative split between the Caf and the rest of the fanbase.

Who’s not enjoying it? It doesn’t alter the fact that the entire season prior to that is a complete failure. An utter embarrassment in fact.

ETH does not deserve to remain manager after that and no bullshit from the cult of Ten Hag will convince me otherwise.

In the real world opposition fans are laughing their arses off at the prospect of ETH staying. They think he’s shit and the season stats back that claim up.

The sub reddit had a lot of fans wanting him out, maybe that's changed since the final. I also know other match going fans who want him out. But the opinions of the fans means nothing. These are the fans that wanted a structure and a proper way of going about our business, but now they want them to ignore their own conclusions and give in to fan pressure.

The same fans who wanted most of our last failed managers, and wanted to make Ole permanent when there was absolutely no need to. The same fans who were voting him out 24 hours before the final, yet now want him to stay. Fans should be ignored as they don't know what they're on about for the most part.

That anyone could watch the gaping chasm in midfield that was there for 9 months no matter who played and think there were no tactical issues last season is astonishing.

Giving the ball away? There was never any intention to keep the ball, it was press high, force turnover, hit the space behind, that was it.

Football fans aren't exactly well known for analytical, rational approach to decision making.

United fans on any platform would have probably been 95% in favour of giving Ole a permanent deal after the PSG win.

Did I say there were no issues? I think Ten Hag asked too much from the players too soon. He was impatient to get his project going and might pay for it yet.

They might not need to make an announcement, but the press will be briefed, if not by Ineos then by people around ETH.

This is taking longer than expected. I kinda thought they had enough time to make a decision already. And while the FA cup win made me change my mind, I'm an emotional fan at the end of the day. You'd think they had clear plans already.
 
I also think the RedDevils sub on Reddit is far too overly positive. It seems anyone with any kind of negative opinions gets down voted into oblivion.

I know one or two, but they are more how to say this "sport" fans, than Man utd fans if you know what I mean.

He came to Man Utd and ended our 6-year trophy drought with two cups in two years.



Explain again - how is he NOT a winner?
The guy is built to achieve silverware.

I forgave him for the awful season, he delivered when it mattered the most.

It wasnt only Man Utd fans that voted in those polls, they were open to everyone including rival fans so the results are meaningless.

You said it was not the tactics, pure delusion, removing responsibility from Ten Hag, the above draws back a bit on that but not enough. Ten Hag's famous "best transition team" quote shows what he wanted, neutral possession was never part of it, what I watched all season was win the ball quick, hit the space behind, and very little else.

No-one has given a valid explanation for his blind spot in midfield that lasted until the Arsenal game when he finally realized that being a bit more compact might help the beleaguered back 4.
