He already made some decisions, lets see if anything changes for next game. Dont think anyone can argue that he needs some players to recruit but him picking first XI is his decision and if they fail thats on him, after last season and everything what happened, trying same shit, sorry thats his fault.

I will say I think we need a dedicated, competent, experienced person to work with him on transfers in and out. I don't think Murtough will be able to help him with this at all. That's my worry with his situation.

Isn't that what a dof and scouting department are for?

We looked better in 2nd half with Donny and Eriksen deeper. He'll surely see what's the problem with todays game and what needs to be changed for Brentford. I won't look into previous page but I guess there are already calls to sack him?

Bitter welcome to the premier league. Unlike most other european leagues where you have maybe 4-5 quality teams, the premier league has 12-15 decent sides who play extremely competitive football in terms of how they set up & their tactics depending on the opposition they face. This is why its the most competitive league in the world.
EtH knows this & knew it is a long road ahead ahead.

Today's game was as bad as it could have got. Unlike what we saw in the pre season, we were awful from the start. Giving away easy passes, no rhythm in our game our pressing was no cohesive & shaky at the back. This was what we saw last season. Once we went two goals behind, players heads, shoulders were down. Second half we gave a decent reaction but no where near what everyone here expects.

But this is not the end but a harsh reality check to what we can expect in our next 37 matchdays. Man Utd are no longer a dangerous team & everyone thinks they can beat us. Today Welbeck was prime Benzema & he will go missing for most of the season. This is how every player will turn up against us. They know we are not the force we were once.
Playing a false 9 will not work for us most of the time & we really need a CF or Target man. A team like man city can effectively play a false 9 as their main man & really affect/change the game for them. Two main reasons, Their inverted wingers (Top quality) & second being team fear them even before the game begins (reputation).

For Eth these are the mostly the same players that have been so poor for the last 2 managers. This will take time & if he is supported well in what he wants (New Players), we can see a drastic change in 2-3 transfer windows. If not, it will take about 4-5 transfer windows to get to where he wants us in terms of our play & performance. But Eth also has good youngsters at his disposal. Garner, Gernacho, Mejbri, Shoretire, Savage & Iqbal. He can develop them & introduce into the team sooner that expected.

Hoping to see a good reaction next saturday against Brentford. Hopefully we can break the away losing streak against them with an empathic win...

Confidence is shot. This is why we needed to burn the house down and start afresh. The team looks uncoachable.
Disastrous transfer window.
I agree. People complained about us signing players he knew, but he needed that. The club failed badly to deliver

Murtough has no experience at transfers that I know of. I think he or Arnold needs to accept that and leave him to do other things. Get a specialist in for that. As for the scouts, do we even have any? I think we're overhauling things there but would greatly benefit from someone who knows what they are doing in the transfer market and most importantly, will be able to challenge Ten Hag where needed.

Ten Hag and McClaren want Arnautovic....

That is absolutely shocking if true!!

If this doesn't send a shock wave of concern to supporters I honestly don't know what will.

Even Barcelona, a team even worse than us regarding situation, had improved their side like crazy after this summer. Why is it only Manchester United that needs 4-5 windows to supposedly "transform" our side?

I don’t care what people think -

But ever since his targeting of certain players became more obvious; I’ve been worried about him as a manager.

I just don’t know how a manager can not understand their own tactical football to the point to where it’s easy to target players from any league all over the world that is capable of playing that.

Guardiola and Klopp may get help from others - but I’m sure they can target players anywhere who are able to play their style of football to some degree.

If he is truly targeting players like Gakpo, Arnautovic, Malacia, Martinez and De Jong only - then I am certainly worried.

There is of course some truth to what you say, however we had Donny and Garner sat on the bench. We saw Iqbal and Savage both have solid pre seasons.

I'm not saying for a second they are definitely the answer to our prayers in midfield, but you have got to start somewhere.

There was and is absolutely nothing stopping ETH from playing any of those 4 players mentioned to start a new CM pairing off. I would expect it to be an issue still at the start but at least there is evidence the manager is trying to change things and start something new.
The only one of those players who has played at top level in the Prem is VDB, who has failed to impress under every manager and club here.

The others are prospects, yes, but if he plays them and loses, everyone will be asking why he's not playing his more senior players.

He needs proven quality in midfield at least. That's on the board

We don't have any levers though

Seriously, we don't have the funds or the craziness of Barcelona to do this. Plus we needed to have a proper structure in place for scouting transfers etc - which we only seem to be addressing now. Barcelona at least have some semblance of that even in all their shite ness. We have a ways to go.

However, we do need an addition to our structure quite urgently of someone to deal with transfers specifically. I need ETH to be steered in a different direction if who he wants is not the right target. ETH knows what he wants, but everyone can always do with an alternative viewpoint imho.

Time is precious to develop one with critical thinking capability. It’s too late already.
Time won't make these useless players any better.
Just honestly ask yourself how many players you want to swap with this Brighton team so that you think our team will win this match? Just think about it. You don’t need to reply.

Has Moyes vibes when it comes to transfers. Hopefully, his coaching can compensate it.

Did you see much of his training on the field today? Honestly, for me I didn't see anything new. Not press resistant, not a good passing game from the back, not many runs from the fullbacks.
Maybe I was just unfocused, but that's what it looked like to me....
Mostly like last season....

The state of the players mentality needs so much

This has been a problem since the crowd came back after covid...after a 5 min spell of the opposition having possession the team just bins any tactics and goes full on Ole-ball hitting long balls and trying to force an attack.

You need leaders and a captain to tell them to calm the feck down and stick to the plan.

he's a back up striker, for next to feck all money.

He utterly shite and not even worth that money and we shouldn't be linked with him.

On a day where City's new forward Haaland scores a brace were haggling over a fee for a racist 33 year old spectacularly average centre forward with zero upside.

I really don't understand year after year why united are not trying to sign a specialized DM. Aspiring top 4 without having at least one DM player in the squad is absurd. And ETH hasn't prioritised that position as well which is baffling. A DM may not play every game in his plan but there can be many occassions where that kind of player can come very handy. These days EPL top 4 is minimum 6 horse race. Sometimes even 7 or 8. You need every weapon in your 20+ member sqad.

I find it odd that people are being so critical of ETH sending out a team that was set up in the manner in which he ultimately wants us to be playing moving forwards.

We all knew the glaring weaknesses in doing so, but did we really expect him to set up his first team in charge of United in a format that was at odds with everything he’s spent his managerial career developing?!? Of course not, I’d be more disappointed if he did.

He needs to learn fast or he won’t be here long. He’s making a lot of mistakes at the moment and the club has no one sensible enough to properly advise.

I really like him but this season he’s going to be picking a starting eleven with at least nine players he inherited every league game. He’s got a squad full of players who aren’t good enough and/or don’t suit how he wants the team to play. Buying and selling players is still a complete shit show and competition is much stronger.

He’s pretty screwed unless he works miracles or everyone is prepared to be extremely patient. I have this horrible feeling he could be gone within the season because he’s either got to abandon what he wants to do or repeat what we saw today where team is made up of players who simply can’t do what he is asking.

Beggars can't be choosers sadly, if the budget will only stretch for a 30+ year old CF then the options are limited.

The Glazers have spend about 50 million this summer after one of the worst seasons in the clubs history! That should be as clear a message as any fans needs to see this isn't the Manchester United we grew up watching anymore.

And we don't have this sadly. Maguire himself gets deeply affected when things are going wrong, so how can he help? It's a real big problem. Think we need to not only target players for their technical ability, but also some hard arsed mentality as well.
The problem is that we're in a vicious circle. The negativity from outside is overwhelming. Everytime something goes wrong, it's a big deal. I'm not sure what we can do. Maybe the players should avoid all media in every form and watch tennis/cricket instead?:D

Seriously, it's a big big issue.

Tell me about that lot of mistakes?

The problem is that some don’t understand what ETH’s vision actually is, and/or do not share it, and/or don’t understand there is no overnight miracle in football…

Ralf weren't far off when he said this team needed ten (5/6 first XI and 4 squad players)

You honestly can't be serious with this comment?

We've released a bunch of senior players and freed up a serious amount of cash on wages and only bought 2 players with transfer fees attached and 1 other in terms of a wage. Where is the rest of the transfer kitty gone?

We were willing to give Barca 75m with the bulk of it up front to assist with paying off the monies owed to FDJ.

I'm sorry but its absolutely disgraceful we are linked with him for a litany of reasons. He's nowhere near good enough, he's racist and over the hill!

I'm wondering if the 3 subs at 90 minutes was a message to the 3 players who went off. "I gave you 90 minutes and you were shit. Bring on the kids. They couldn't do any worse and may actually play for the shirt."

Well unless he’s Jesus he can’t do miracles. Are people going to let it sink in yet that this is a huge job and it will take a season and a few more new players till it starts to bear fruit.

he needs time to get his coaching idea across
I think that’s fair, the frustration should be vented in other threads.

Should have brought on Garnacho earlier. He actually could have done something or rather he couldn’t have done worse than Rashford or Sancho.
