It's been like this since 2013 with 6 different managers. I'm not saying Ten Hag is the way to go, but we've tried the whole "appoint a new manager and hope for the best" and it hasn't worked so far. We can appoint a new manager, sure, but INEOS should tidy up the organisation primarily. Everyone wanted to behead Ole toward the end and now we see posts about bringing him back... A lot of people here think everything would be clouds made of cotton-candy, houses made of choclate, sunshine and roses in happy land if we just simply appoint a new manager.

Ten Hag may not be up to the task but his squad is fecking dogshite and made of glass.

Yeah and it's very much his squad.

Ok, say Southgate was fundamentally chosen as ETH successor, what can we expect from the waistcoat one ?
Positives and negatives.
Pros
Smartly dressed
Speaks English

Cons
Possibly inflexible with tactics, seems to love 2 defensive midfielders
Maguire shoe in to stay
No club experience

im sure that I will think of more

Didn't he manager Middlesbrough for a few years?

Edin Terzic has now achieved more in the Champions League than Ten Hag. Something to consider the next time that one season half a decade ago is mentioned again as some sort of proof of his supposed top class ability.

Doesn't deserve to finish the season as our manager.
If he'd been sacked back in November like a well run club would've done, we'd probably have gotten a CL place.

Clearly, neither one of you watched the clip.

Whether or not they are good pundits is immaterial. Both played under McLaren when he was a first team coach, not as a manager. Both were adamant that these are Ten Hag’s tactics and McLaren is sidelined. Why? Because they both agreed that Steve McLaren is an excellent COACH (not manager) and under no circumstances would he ever set up a side the way Ten Hag has.

Coaching is about communication of details, teaching really. Players who are confused play poorly.
This shite that the Ten Hag supporters claim that ETH is good coach is just fecking bollocks.

None of that goes against the point I made. At which point did I say that they were talking about him as a manager?

McClaren isn't the best coach ever that's a ridiculous hyperbole; when he was at United he was working under the guidance of SAF as a first team coach. The silly thing about their claim is that it ignores the insight of the man at the top, that's where you need to pause and wonder how their minds work.

Mitten sits on the fence too much. He's stuck between being a fan at heart and a journalist professionally. He doesn't want to upset the apple cart too much, as that's how he earns a living. It leads to him saying some negative things while also trying to be objective. His interviews on platforms like SSN and OTB can be a bit wishy-washy. If you spoke to him off camera, I'm sure he'd give a more honest assessment. He has to be careful with his words. Upset the wrong people and you could lose access to key sources.
I don't think he sits on the fence, he just tries to be balanced. Where as a pundit is paid for an emotional style reaction, as it generates the most traffic.

Of course he's not going to break sensitive information that could put someone's role in jeopardy or piss off a contact, but he's happy to put his opinion out on what he knows.

I'm actually annoyed at EtH right now. I have been EtH out since the Palace game at OT, the first United manager I have EVER advocated sacking...but I always maintained I quite liked him as a person.

Now I feel he's really taking the piss out of the club. His job as the manager is to take what he has and do the best possible job he can. That means finding a system / tactic that works for what we have.

Going away to Palace and setting us up like a child playing a game on FIFA is not acceptable, it's actually damaging to the club and not fair on the fans. He has a responsibility to look after the team and the badge, not drag it through the mud because of some dogmatic obsession with a tactic / system that literally baffles fans and pundits across the land.

It's an utterly crazy way to play football when you have 11 prime athletes at the top of their game. When you have Evans and Casemiro at CB, two teenagers, a 21yo CF, a chap with a pacemaker playing CM and a right-footed left-back it's completely irresponsible.

I don’t think that is the case. He’s only on our payroll for one more year and even while releasing him from his coaching duties, we could keep his contract valid and keep paying him without paying off his full severance. If he then goes on to find a new job, he would be released from his current contract and I don’t think there would be much payout involved (maybe cover some of the difference in salary). With his contract situation it would not be very expensive to part ways with him.
Even if he were to move on to another club I think we should just keep paying him considering how hard done by he was by our club structure.

I have seen that several times on the caf but don't really get it. What makes likeable as a person? And why are you annoyed now, in May, and not presumably not annoyed in September?

None of what we are seeing is new, we had the exact same issues during preseason and these aren't issues that are fixable with a different personnel, we are talking about fundamental issues related to space, players can't be in two places at the same time or faster than the fastest sprinters on earth with the stamina of marathon runners.

It's a genuine question because I don't know if it's a case of seeing the issues like everyone else but giving him an incredible amount of slack or is it a case of not spotting the issues until recently?

Even more interesting, this CL run is basically saving Terzic' job because what Dortmund did in the league would be a reason to replace him.

Okay, well, now I know you really didn’t watch the clip.

Not sure how far you went playing football, but Paul Scholes played for 30 years and at an elite, elite level. Youth club teams, youth National teams at various ages. 10s of thousands of hours on the training pitch. He had, what, maybe on the low end, at least 100 coaches he had come across. Man United has probably 3-4 first team coaches at any one time, cycling through. 19 seasons in the PL.

For him to say, “for me, he’s the best coach ever” is a huge compliment. He’s not saying he’s a better manager, he’s saying he’s the best coach he ever worked with on the training pitch. It has nothing to do with Sir Alex. It’s about doing the system work on the field and teaching the nuances of a system of play. For Paul Scholes, it’s not hyperbole, it’s truth, based on his experience.

The point still stands: Both Owen and Scholes hold Steve McLaren in very high regard as a coach. Ten Hag is not using his coaches to teach tactics, or at least not McLaren, as these tactics are absolute dog shit.

Going to save everyone’s time here and just say that no matter how crappy those two are as pundits, in this arena, training, coaching, both of them are WAY more qualified to comment both on quality of coaching and specific coaches they’ve worked with than any knob in the Caf. Show some fecking respect.

I can't believe no one has asked if the current situation constitutes as meltdown. What's the fecking meltdown barometer?
Maybe we're going full Chernobyl and only classifying it as a "nuclear incident" but the party has it all under control!

Getting ragdolled by teams just above relegation zone = Not bad, Steve can take over if it ever gets bad.

You do realize that no agreeing with someone or questioning their thought process isn't a lack of respect? Also if we follow that logic why are they questioning the abilities of a manager that has been more successful than they have been as managers and also been more successful than McClaren? ETH is supposed to be more qualified than all of them.

It's very clear he's going to be here until Wembley and then after City batter us he'll be sacked within 48 hours.

This has been easily the worst season in the last 35 years. He has to go, there shouldn't even be a debate.

I was certain of this, but these noises make me think there is a chance, albeit slim, that he's gone before it.

I assume they define meltdown as players actively refusing to play and publicly calling the manager a bald egg head, or Ten Hag having a breakdown and taking a shit in a bin then driving to Dundee without shoes. Because performance and results wise it can't get much worse. I can only guess that they would rather avoid the hassle of having to do the paperwork to get an interim for a few games

"If the situation goes into meltdown"

I'd hate to see what they classify as "meltdown" if this whole season does not.

 indeed. I don't know how much worse it can possibly get so if they consider this as somewhat short of a meltdown, their bar for failure seems to be ridiculously low.

What if he doesn't get sacked!!

Huh? Watch the fecking clip. You’re normally a very insightful poster, but you’re clearly not fully informed or just being obstinate unless you are just wumming.

They were talking from their perspective as players. It’s like Neil Armstrong saying, “wow, the Apollo lunar lander was unstable on touchdown, need to improve the landing thrusters.” Sure, you could comment and say he is an idiot, but since you’re not a rocket scientist and you’ve never piloted a lunar lander, nor been to moon, you’d just come off as being an arrogant moron.

You’ve never been coached by Steve McClaren, you’ve never played PL level football, nor been coached at top professional levels. Paul Scholes and Michael Owen have. To say their opinions are garbage about Ten Hag is one thing — they don’t know him and haven’t played for him. To say their opinions about McClaren as a COACH are garbage (again, watch the clip), is stupid, and a sign of disrespect.

No matter what you think of Ten Hag, we really should be taking direct aim at whatever players are ignoring his instructions.

The fact that we're apparently in for a quiet transfer window is just dire. We're fecked with this lot. It'll be a few years before noticeable change occurs. I think I heard one of the lads on the Talk of the Devils podcast that Ratcliffe has earmarked around 2028 as a time we may be up and challenging. Sounds about right, if not optimistic.

What if he doesn't get sacked!!

We have 4 games left. There's a good chance that we lose half of them, which would take us to 20 defeats in all competitions.

You can't justify that if you're INEOS. The current 18 defeats is already bad enough. It's a new record amount of defeats post SAF.

There's a good chance that we'd have won less than 50% of the games we've played this season if we didn't face teams like Wigan and Newport in The FA Cup early on.

22 wins, 8 draws and 18 defeats could easily have been worse. So many lucky escapes.

The underlying data from this season and since last February is there for INEOS to analyse. If they're as analytical and strategic as they're perceived to be, ten Hag will be sacked at the end of the season.
