I remember 2 years ago people (not necessarily you) were banging on about how win ratio was a poor stat to judge a manager on in defence of Rangnick. PPG was a much better indicator apparently.
Obviously PPG is a much better indicator (for the league), cause win rate makes no difference between a draw and a defeat.

For Cup competitions both are useless. You need to check until what stage the club reached and what competition it was. A club reaching semis of Conference League might have a better win rate than a club winning UCL.

It‘s true Hag didn‘t get marquee signings like Frenkie and Kane, whereas Mourinho got Pogba. But he did get other good signings, he has been backed.

Mourinho should shut up, he played atrocious football here.

The point is, if you want to challenge for the title right off, you need those marquee signings. Otherwise, it will take more time.

The club agreed a deal with Barcelona. De Jong didn’t want to move.

The club didn’t want to pay over £100 million for a 30 year old striker.

You’re right ETH has been backed to the hilt with transfers.

Since the subject of stats is active.. how close are we to having our worst PL season ever?
Number of points. We need 4 points and to keep the current GD to not get the worst ever PL seasonZ

In table position? If we finish where we are, it will be the lowest ever in EPL.

FFS people are still banging on about De Jong?

The fact that our directors flew out to Barcelona and wasted their time there getting a deal approved with the club is abundant proof that ETH has been backed, to an absurd degree even.

Most clubs won't even bother negotiating a transfer fee until they have assurances in place that the player wants the move and some level of agreement over personal terms.

Our two clowns didn't even wait for that before starting negotiations with Barcelona!

Ten Hag claiming he's not had his signings is absolutely laughable. Just the other day he claimed Casemiro. Who didn't he get? Kane wasn't going to happen. FdJ didn't want to come after we submitted a successful bid. Fecking Brian Brobbey? Arnautovic? Amrabat on a permanent?
I think that these comments are the marker that he’s probably going to get sacked. You don’t throw the board under the bus if you know you have another season unless you are Jose. He’s trying to preserve his reputation for the next job. Easy for him to say he wanted Harry Kane…. But he’s insulting the club, even though those fellas are all gone. It’s not a good look.

Fair enough, I rmemeber we were linked with Timber very early as well. But as you say he was being touted as more of an option to be an understudy to Varane and cover fro RB.

I don't personally believe a Dutch manager wouldn't have wanted a left footed LCB at the club. We didn't have one so it's no surprise that was one of our first signings. Was the same under Van Gaal when we signed Blind and Rojo.
Fascinating that Dutch managers are so obsessed with this. Vidic was right footed if memory serves. I suppose football is different now, with an emphasis on playing out of the back, but I’d rather have a world class CB at LCB who was right footed than a mediocre one who was left footed. Sergio Ramos was fecking nails and played a lot of LCB for Real.

So many randoms pulled up from our youth teams during the LVG era because of this weird obsession. Most of whom are now in lower league obscurity.

Yeah his comment on that is laughably inaccurate. He's been backed more than any other manager we've had post SAF. Saying "oh we didn't get Kane" is like saying "oh I wanted Mbappe but the club wouldn't buy him". We were never getting Kane unless we blew the entire summer budget on him, it was a stupid fecking premise from the get go.

Yeah it's a fair opinion to want a left footed LCB because it can make building from the back easier for obvious reasons. But the extent to which some go for it is bizarre, I'd rather have an elite CB that's right footed playing on that side than a mediocre defender that can play some nice passes with his left foot. It isn't the end of the world if your LCB isn't left footed.

At this crazy rate, it cannot just be about bad luck IMHO.
Weird thing is didn’t we hire the head of Arsenals medical team at the start of the season because Arsenal had very few injuries last season and he was seen as part of the reason towards that. Then he arrives and we’ve had nothing but injury after injury.

Thing is we should have known and expected people like Varane, Shaw and Evans to spend a large period of time injured as they’ve shown over time they get injured a lot or are of an age where it’s expected. Maguire, Lindelof and Martinez is bad luck.

United have bad injuries all seeson

“Yeh but other clubs have injuries”

Uniteds injuries keep getting worse

“It’s gotta be ETH”.

Maybe the World Cup in the middle of a season put every player under a lot of strain. Maybe this and United having more games then most last season (City have a much bigger squad) has meant our squad has struggled more then most.

i mean injuries, no injuries, weve looked crap with whoever is out there. EtH's ideas with how to set up the team have just been diabolical regardless.

I guess the argument at this point is if he remains an adequate coach for a year. We will have people above him making decisions and improving the squad. They will also be recruiting for the type of football they want to see in the future and need the head coach to be just that. A head coach.

How much of an upgrade can we get by sacking EtH and replacing him with a guy like Tuchel? We could definitely use that 10m or so that it would cost to sack him to invest in the squad instead.

The new manager is not going to struggle because of those individuals. I strongly believe most of those players have a "role to play".
The main reason new manager is going to struggle is because the squad is completely unbalanced, mostly because we made all the wrong choices in the summer (Fred/Mount/Amrabat/Hojlund).

The next manager will be forced to close the gaps created by the this.

A manager still needs a core of quality players that can perform consistently, only having players that are good enough to play a role only is not sufficient at all, I Know the squad is unbalanced but that's still the issue, due to that unbalance the team is really lacking and full of holes/gabs, and any new manager will need this team overhauled or at least 50% of the unneeded players out and perhaps 4-5 new signings to cover the gabs in the first summer, a mojor change in the playing squad is really necessary at this stage and without it a new manager will not be able to achieve anything of note and the same cycle of boom and bust will repeat

If ETH was so desperate for De Jong because his future as United manager hinged on it, maybe he could have done more to convince his former player to come...?

Why did ETH cause the club to waste 2 months of transfer prep when he should have been able to just phone De Jong up and ask him if there was any chance, find out there wasn't and save all that time.

Why was his former player so dead set against coming to play for him? Maybe the weather wasn't the only factor...

If SAF or Klopp or any other good manager (or just any with charisma and people skills) has an offer accepted for a target, they're on the phone to them immediately. Hell SAF literally kidnapped Berbatov once Spurs had accepted our offer.

If we don't believe in his methods, 10m is pocket change for replacing one of the most important cogs in the machine. You hear him complaining about not getting "his" players now, how is he going to work with new people going forward?

It becomes an issue when all your leftbacks are out too.

By which metric?

Worst position?
Lowest points?
Lowest goals scored?
Most goals conceded?
Most defeats?
Lowest GD?

We are close to most of those I think.
Well I meant lowest points and worst position - but I’m interested in the rest too

Oh I really feel for @TenHagEra. What a potentially rough time for him.

At least he won't have to do anything at all to his twitter account or bio, because it has zero images or mentions of the club Ten Hag is actually managing, anywhere

Thank you. Season ends at the end of next week. Mental to think we’re doing so badly

Well we need another 5 points to beat 21-22 as the lowest points total.

And we need to finish 6th or higher to beat 13-14 as our lowest finish.

Always a risk selecting a username associated with someone who may not be at the club for long :nervous:

I wonder if it's the same guy. Presumably it is.

Made an account here to lurk and see if his troll tweeting was getting reactions.

I still can’t predict if ETH will be here next month or not. But considering how bad that is and how likely it is to be our worst ever season, you’d feel he’ll be extremely lucky to survive

If he does, I’d have to assume that the INEOS investigation finds a very big reason why Ten Hag isn’t the problem

How is some unattributed ballcrap now breaking news?

If it were announced by any sort of official source that's different.
Kicker are a pretty big outlet in Germany aren't they?

4 games left in the season and Crystal Palace with nothing to play for in 14th place are the bookies favourite for tonight’s game. I don’t think it has ever been that bad. We can go on and on about players we didn’t get and the number of injuries but at the end of the day he is just not getting the best out of what he has, and therefore needs to go along with most of the players.

ETH and his agent are fishing for a new contract. Let's see if the new management is as stupid as the last one & offers him one.

I very strongly feel, EtH will thrive at Bayern and, if Tuchel walks the opposite direction, he will fail here

Most managers thrive at Bayern because it's even easier than managing Ajax or Celtic.

I very strongly feel ETH will not thrive, especially in the CL.

No wonder they're favourites. Half our bloody team is on the casualty list.
