Since the subject of stats is active.. how close are we to having our worst PL season ever?
Point wise, very. We need 5 to beat the Rangnick disaster season.

But hey, his win % is better than Arteta and Klopp's worst thanks to easy cup draws.

Come on Erik take that Bayern job you finally get to work with Kane next season

It‘s true Hag didn‘t get marquee signings like Frenkie and Kane, whereas Mourinho got Pogba. But he did get other good signings, he has been backed.

Mourinho should shut up, he played atrocious football here.

The point is, if you want to challenge for the title right off, you need those marquee signings. Otherwise, it will take more time.

Thanks

I think if we lose 1 more match then it’s the most defeats we’ve ever had in a PL season. But would need clarification on that

It’s been an awful season

When, in the history of United, have we signed true marquee signings? And I mean proper signings, like Kane, Zidane, fat Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Del Piero, Rivaldo, Figo, Davids, etc. The best of the best.

It's not something we've ever done, we tried to under Woodward but he managed to get in a bunch of A-list pretenders that weren't fit to play for the likes of Madrid, Juventus and prime Barcelona. We should stop pretending we're Madrid, the Mbappe's of this world end up there, not in Manchester.

Why so sure?

His position is already untenable. The situation will become a lot more toxic after the losses against Arsenal and Newcastle. Handing City the double at Wembley will be the icing on a shit cake.

He is already gone. It's just a matter of making it official.

Nah that's bollocks, he might not be the one carrying out the negotiations but he's informed and will ultimately sign off on it. He thought it was fine to pay that amount for Antony (and the others) and if he doesn't have the brains to realise that impacts our budget elsewhere it's on him.

As a manager if you're signing a player you've already managed for such a fee you have to be very confident of their success.
We signed him on deadline day...not sure any manager is going to turn around and say 'fee is too high', especially with how we started that season.

He's talking like he's gone and needs to get some excuses out in the open so a new employer picks him up.

By that logic we should also give him a go the following season, and the season after that.

In fact that's what I expect most of his defenders to say next season if he does stay on. "Just give him another year, he'll turn things around!"

Not really - they’ve made big changes behind the scenes. He’s already on thin ice so they’d justifiably sack him and say he had the structure in place if next season started badly.
I’m not a big ten hag in person but I do recognise he’s done some good work in his time. He’s been on the back foot since Liverpool smashed us at anfield last season though.

Man keeps crying about injuries but has never given an explanation as to why a lot of them happen during training sessions
He said it is just bad luck in his press conference. He has been manager for 10 years and never experienced this.

We have had them but you are right: never like Madrid or Barcelona.

No such thing, he just doesn't want to say that all the running he's making the players do without the ball is causing muscle related injuries.
That is a huge assumption on your part. Do you have anything to back this up?

He's digging an even bigger hole for himself by making all of these excuses, the comment about not being backed as much as previous managers is also a very reckless one to make. His time is almost up at this club.

For the last 10 years, the players have had too much say.
When times get hard they down tools and wait for the next clean slate under the new manager.
The players need to know that there are consequences to poor attitude/form over time.
An underperforming player should be out the door in the following transfer window.

There is no obvious replacement for Ten Hag.
The team's performance this season comes with a lot of asteriscs. (Injuries, take-over, accusations of crimes)
The new CEO, TD, and DOF would know where to put the blame for this season and act accordingly.

I think Ten Hag has a CL clause that makes it easy to fire him if not met. (All previous Glazer hires had?)
So the fact that he is still in charge... I can't even imagine what kind of horror show INEOS has seen inside Carrington.

The bottom line here is. We have no clue what goes on inside Carrington.
And let's hope that the people who make the important decisions over the next years do.

I feel fairly confident he’ll still be here next season. The only real toxicity is here on the fan forum, there doesn’t seem to be as high a demand for a replacement from other outside sources. Possibly because the choices of replacements are so poor there is nothing that says vast improvement out there.

Since the subject of stats is active.. how close are we to having our worst PL season ever?

By which metric?

Worst position?
Lowest points?
Lowest goals scored?
Most goals conceded?
Most defeats?
Lowest GD?

We are close to most of those I think.

This thread will be lively tonight after losing and dominated by palace.

We were never singing Kane. Spurs/Levy wouldn't sell to us and it'd been a very poor signing in terms of value for money even if they did. £100-120m+ for a 30 year old is not money well spent, especially not a year after signing Casemiro for £70m.

You assumed (based on completely different people in an entirely different structure) that things would continue.

Can you not read?

My original comment said competency should not be assumed. That does not mean incompetency should be assumed - it means we don’t yet know their levels of competency, and so we should judge them on what they do, as I specifically pointed out in a subsequent post.

These nuances are not as hard to understand as you’re making out.

Which players?

Ten Hag claiming he's not had his signings is absolutely laughable. Just the other day he claimed Casemiro. Who didn't he get? Kane wasn't going to happen. FdJ didn't want to come after we submitted a successful bid. Fecking Brian Brobbey? Arnautovic? Amrabat on a permanent?

Nonetheless I think United has a significant share of fans who think sacking a manager is generally a terrible thing. I don't get this feeling with fans of other clubs, where it is much more accepted that cycling through managers simply is a normal thing as sooner or later (almost) every manager hits the end of the road.
Think it has got to do with the fans belief/confidence in the guys above the manager and also to an extent attitude of the players.
Fans at United and in the past in other clubs like Chelsea, Barcelona have sided with the manager over the club admins.
Also if fans are convinced that the players don't have the right attitude/persona, then it the opinions would once again be split on who is to be blamed for the mess.

But what are you basing the idea that he wanted Timber ahead of Martinez on? How do you know he didn't want both equally?

Everyone thought Casemiro was a panic signing when he couldn't get DeJong but Ten Hag recently revealed he wanted both and his plan was for them to play together.

I mean its nearly two years ago now but it seemed like the pursuit of Timber happened earlier and we moved for Martinez after he said no and Arsenal were pursuing Martinez. It's possible he wanted Timber to play as a fullback too I suppose.

Fair enough, I rmemeber we were linked with Timber very early as well. But as you say he was being touted as more of an option to be an understudy to Varane and cover fro RB.

I don't personally believe a Dutch manager wouldn't have wanted a left footed LCB at the club. We didn't have one so it's no surprise that was one of our first signings. Was the same under Van Gaal when we signed Blind and Rojo.
