I would rather have Potter at this stage.

ten Hag will undoubtedly get lucky against Forest and then draw Coventry at home in the quarters of the FA Cup though so he'll probably muck through on the strength of a cup run.

There were even reports that people at United were unhappy about the involvement of ETHs agent in the transfer business. I think it's peculiar the way it unfolded with players signing with SEG and then signing for United, when it looked like deals were already lined up and wages not expected to be an issue.

Why do you think Ole was lining his agents pocket but not ETH and SEG? I'd say its likely they are/ were both doing the same thing. Not that I'm particularly bothered, it's the least of my worries when it comes to ETH.
SEG is the biggest agency in Holland with a history of landing their clients big moves to big clubs. They've always had a good relationship with us and played a key part in us signing RvP. There's nothing dodgy about it. Hojlund most likely signed there to give himself a better chance at signing for United. And as @Berbaclass said his son isn't even an agent he works as an analyst.
I'd be on the run like Assange if I did
So nothing then.

Incorrect. Liverpool will draw Coventry at home in the quarters.

There is no such thing as lucky against a team like Forest. If you beat them at their own turf in a cup game, it is a significant achievement for the coach. If you lose, it doesn’t matter because it is a tough away game in the cup at a fierce ground.

He either makes history tomorrow or we just forget about this game the following day.

In my opinion, this is unethical even if his son works there as a janitor. ETH using his own agent, in a company where his son works, to buy the likes of Antony for huge fees is outrageous. If I was in Ratcliffe's position, I'd sack ETH just for this.

There's so much of this in football. He's not even in bad company among United managers who have form for exactly this kind of situation.

There's also Mourinho being pally with Jorge Mendes. Ole with Jim Solbakken. If you go down the football agent rabbit hole, this shit is absolutely everywhere, not just at United. Harry Redknapp was basically a meme for this type of thing. It stinks and it's a problem the whole game needs to clean up, but I can't see it happening.

I have nothing left to say so I'll just leave it but this ten Hag/SEG conspiracy theory is biggest load of shite I've read on here in a long time.

Being pals with agents is normal. Having your son work for the agency that you regularly do business with your club, thats a bit much. The only difference is he's clever enough to have his son's title be called analyst instead of agent to avoid a BBC investigation.

Zidane is never going to happen.

I just can't see Zidane wanting to come to us to do a rebuild job. Honestly I don't even know how he would do. He's only ever managed great group of players who he then elevated. Is he a great coach? Does he have the stomach for a long rebuild? He doesn't speak English.... etc. Just so many things that point to it never happening

With the rebuild Ineos are undertaking I see no reason we won't be able to attract the best managers. When managers/players see we are becoming a serious football club, rather than an "adult Disneyland" they'll be more willing to pick up the phone and hear what the new CEO has to say

I'd sack him just for buying Antony.

It's the equivalent of someone with a gaping knife wound lying on the floor and deciding to give it time and hope it'll get better rather than call an ambulance.

its actually absurd.

Man bought Mount, Onana, Antony and wanted to play a midfield of Bruno and Mount. Every Tom, Dick and Harry knew that wouldn’t work but he couldn’t predict it.

But yeah sure let’s give him whatever time he wants cause Fergie that one time a billion years ago.

Surely the most important aspect of picking a direction in style of play is to stick to it, let the process weed out those players who aren't capable of doing it and bring in players who are.

Not saying the ETH way is the right way or the wrong way, but at some point you have to make a decision regards where you want to be as a football club, the type of players you want, mentality, style of play etc etc. Within that process tough decisions have to be made and jettisoning players who aren't suitable to where you want to go is all part of sticking to the process.

If you're constantly chopping and changing tactics to suit this group of players you're going to end up going round in circles. This squad of players just isn't good enough to make a serious challenge for any major trophy under any manager and no amount of adapting to their strengths will change that.
How's that working out?

Pure craziness, yes you work toward your ideal style but that might take several seasons, in the meantime blindly sticking to a system which is failing is abject stupidity or blind obstinance, unless you are Man City each team has to chop and change in order to be most effective against any given opposition.

The football formations, selections, substitutions and tactics employed by ETH this season are suicidal, we are flattered by our current points total, he is extremely flattered to still be in a job!

Achievements by ETH's utd

  • Galatasaray beat utd, first time in 117 years that they have won on English soil, not having scored an CL away goal since 2015 until netting 3 at OT
  • first time losing the opening 2 CL group games
  • first time conceding 7 goals in the opening 2 CL group games
  • first time conceding 3+ goals in back-to-back CL games
  • first time losing 4 of the opening 7 games in PL history
  • fewest points from the opening 7 games since 1989
  • first time in 28 years conceding 4 goals in a CL group game
  • had not conceded 3+ goals in 3 consecutive games since 1978
  • first time losing the opening two away games since 1973-74
  • had not conceded more than one goal in 4 consecutive league games since 1979
  • had never before conceded 2 goals in the opening 4 minutes of a PL game at Old Trafford
  • had never before conceded 23 shots in one game at Old Trafford in PL history
  • first time losing consecutive home games by three goals or more since October 1962
  • first time the losing eight or more of their first 15 games in a season since 1962-63
  • first time losing five of its first 10 home games since 1930-31

Great manager! but yeah stick to the format it will come good if we give him long enough, by which time we will be in the beezer homes league!

What would you recommend we do to speed up the process how long do you think it will take?

maybe lets start with when you see a manager is obviously not working let him go. Rather than ruining the entire season, because Fergie that one time.

If we had sacked in December its not impossible with the new manager bounce we could have scrapped a CL spot. With ETH its impossible.

Grim reading

He's waiting for the France job in my opinion. The guy achieved so much with Madrid I wouldn't be surprised if he feels like he has nothing left to achieve in club football and now just wants to win the World Cup as a manager. Maybe a feeling of unfinished business too considering how his playing career ended.

I have to say I grow quite tired of the underestimation of Zidane as a manager. Seems most still think he just clapped his hands and watched Madrid carry him to 3 straight UCL’s

Exactly what he did. He did a very good job managing a very good squad. When it was time for a rebuild he quit.

It's not about who Ineos want. It's who Berrada and Ashworth want.

And they wont want Zidane, can tell you that for free.

He can not even utter a word in English. There hasn't been a single report that has given the slightest encouragement of him coming to England. I do not dispute that INEOPS might truly want him, but what he wants might be a totally different thing.

Hojlund looked nailed on to be signing when SEG took him on, so I'm not really buying that. We also paid the extortionate fee, so it's not like it did us any favours, Atalanta got what they wanted and would have sold him regardless of who represented him. And I doubt wages ever would have been an issue.

New manager bounces are on average worth 6-7 points in the first 6 games.

I wouldn't be so sure. If they rate Potter then they probably rate Zidane. We have a strong French connection now with SJR and Blanc, so they may be able to sell him on the project and get him in.

With that being said, I'm a bit weird and see him as a Madrid guy through and through, so he wouldn't be my ideal. I'd be more excited to see De Zerbi come in, for example, but certainly wouldn't say no to Zidane at this stage.

I'm sorry if someone already posted this and not sure if it's correct but it certainly feels that way.

In the last 5 years of managing at the top ETH has hsd just ONE disaster year. Under a structureless regime. That is why a number of people are not as eager to ditch him as those who thinking him garbage.

I think people mostly don’t care about what he did in the league with Ajax as it’s a completely different job. Villas Boas was amazing with Porto but terrible with Chelsea, the leap from Eredivisie to managing United is huge. It’s also very rare, almost unprecedented for managers to be allowed one terrible season at a top club.

Thats part of the problem. The mess at United is so big, pre INEOS, that any manager would have such a season at some point

It's the lamest argument ever made! He competed with Europe bests consistently in the Europa and UCL managing a Europeam traditional giant. To pretend his success was isolated to Eredivisie let alone comparable to one season wonder at Porto, no European level impact, Villasboas, simply betrays the agenda behind anyone who thinks that way.

For it's common knowledge a Postecoglu isn't being judge that way by those using him as a stick to beat up on ETH, for example....

I'm sure there will have a few simple Palace fans who will have said the exact same about De Boer.

Then the rest will have pissed themselves at the suggestion the Eredivisie is part of "the top".

I guess people also remember all his embarrassing European exits at Ajax.
When it was clear ten Hag would become United manager, his European record was slightly concerning for me. Yeah 18/19 was great and will stay in memory for Ajax fans forever I'm sure but other than that, they were mostly average/poor in Europe under ten Hag. One year they got knocked out by Roma in Europa when it was expected they would progress and then we/Ole's United, beat Roma 6-2 despite being terrible tactically (was also a semi-final that imo showed Ole can't continue as our manager).
