Quite a remarkable exchange between Ducker and ETH beginning at 6:53 . ETH clearly uncomfortable having to explain his summer transfer logic.

I didn’t think the interview was that bad. It was pub talk level questions and naieve like ETH said but he handled it grand.

Most balanced people can see ETH is having to sign Weghorst level striker shoe ins, like Ole with Ighalo, and has had to work in a dysfunctional club that never has a solid, balanced squad for its managers. Most people understand aswell that a modern managers job is not squad management but to coach the players he receives. Most people understand a manager doesn’t bid for players and set the fee. And most United managers have been stuck with Martial cause one of the owners has a hard on for him.

ETH can’t be saying “you do realise somebody has just bought the football side of the club because of how poorly it’s been run?”. That’s your answer really but no , the press and some fans need a target in the stocks to throw rotten vegetables at and many lap it up.

That was uncalled for. These journos are attacking ETH like he and he alone made those decisions.
They don't get to interview Murtough and Arnold, so obviously Ten Hag will field those questions. Anyway it's him who chose the players, so it's fair enough. He deserves to be grilled about the terrible transfer business

I think this is what most of folks defending Ten Hag have been saying, a lot of his detractors on here have no alternative suggestions beyond throwing managers at the problem.

Put a better support structure in place, set the manager up to succeed rather than to fail, and put some succession planning in place for managers who will fit the style and culture we're putting in place. That way if ETH doesn't work out, we won't be throwing away the good stuff he's done and starting again from scratch.

Exactly

As much as I love Ten Hag and I very much have wanted him to remain - last year he did great and since joining has endured horrendous conditions.

HOWEVER

There was once a manager from Aberdeen who delivered an unprecedented achievement breaking winning the Scottish league despite it being dominated and then beating Real Madrid in the final of the Cup Winners Cup.

There is current a manager from Leverkeusen who will deliver an unprecedented achievement winning the German league despite it being dominated and is currently unbeaten in 23 league games and with 18 out of 18 points in Europe.

Jim wants a best in a class and a return to the top.

With the changes we're making here, Alonso would surely see that we're an enticing long term project. With ambition, he's attainable.

If he wins the league and the UEFA cup - despite Ten Hag's abilities - should we be going all out for Alonso despite the Liverpool connection?

I personally think we should. What's he's doing is incredible

p.s. sorry Erik

I dont know why everyone thinks he is wrong. He's probably just annoyed listening to ETH talking crap. We all knew it in summer. Our attacking was sht. We were 30 plus goals off the top last year. Only I think Villa were much less in the top 10. And that was just because Rashford had a crazy season. You could see a mile off that if Rashford didn't get another 30 goals we were fkd. When he came we were already not scoring enough goals and his decision was to get Antony. Then he got Wehgorst. Every time he says these players will get goals and we have good front line. He's said this for a year and a half. His solution was get a 20 year old. It was fkn obvious that was not enough. And so its proved with 35 goas this season. 35! The same as Luton! And he's still saying we have a good front line and we will get goals. Yes we have good players. Yes they have potential. But its not rocket science. It was obvious this was where we were ending up.
I know that he cant really say it and its not all his fault. But he's talking crap. That means he can be challenged.

Guess you haven't seen the news lately then. Alonso already took a job.

No way in hell Alonso will choose United over Liverpool.

How is he out of line? I wish managers are grilled more like this.

The question he asked was legitimate, going into a season with a teenager as your most workable striker is not smart.

It's not just on Ten hag, it goes to show the incompetence at our club.

It also calls into question the Mount transfer, we haven't missed him since his injury but we now don't have a serviceable striker.

I will be glad when this manager doesn't control our transfer business ever again
I think he was heavily invested in Martial Rashford and Greenwood giving us the needed appearances in instances where Hoijlund needs a rest or is out. He just never anticipated Martial turning out to be quite useless or Rashford not building on last season. Then there is the Greenwood situation...

Obviously the Mount signing was a mistake but he hasn't played yet and he could turn out to be useful when he returns and gets an extended run. Where he truly fecked up was the LB situation, farming out A Fernandez on loan with Malacia's status unknown.

so whats the value then of having sent of hugill on loan in Jan? he would be a good option off the bench if (most probably) rashford does nothing for us. hugill had a great pre-season, we're giving shots to the youth team, he has more than a specious claim on a subs spot.
Not good enough.

I think he had it in his mind that we were going to play Mount and Bruno ahead of Mainoo or Casemiro. Mount/ Garnacho to chip in another 5-10 goals each. Rashford to keep playing well and cover for up top. Antony to find some form. Unfortunately, none of these happened. These were all gambles and none of them paid off.

You never know.

Don't think his affinity for Liverpool is that high. I might be way off.
If it’s between them and us though he 100% chooses them. There’s also Bayern in the mix now aswell. Think Liverpool will be his first choice then maybe Bayern. We won’t even be looking for a new manager anyway… most likely scenario is we finish in a CL place and ETH gets another season under a new structure… Ratcliffe as already said the managers can’t keep being the problem when not one as been successful under the previous environment.

i think it would be dependant on the package and the project. We can certainly offer both

Alonso isn’t Gerrard. He’s attainable IMO

Maybe… I’m still sticking by what i said and he’d choose them over us if we both wanted him. However if Liverpool weren’t in for him and we was then your probably right, he may want to join as it’s a step up in his career and one of the biggest jobs available. Not sure how the OT crowd would take it though with him being former Liverpool.

Logic would suggest no Antony in the line up. He is out of form and too much linkage to Ten Hag. If Antony fails again today it wont shine a good light on Ten Hag. I bet he goes for McTominay or Eriksen as 10, Bruno right wing and Garnacho as 9. Rashford was a disaster at 9 so i'd be very suprised if we see him there.

Edit: indeed and thank god, no Antony starting. Not a bad half. Garnacho is amazing. Bruno again not making any difference though. Fingers crossed no Antony 2nd half. Come on Erik!

I’ve maintained that ETH deserves patience due to the injury disruptions this season but the new management has a huge decision to make this summer. We need to see true progress by the end of the year otherwise it’s hard to make a case for him continuing.

I'm not watching the match but i read on the news feed that Fulham have got in through our midfield quite a few times. I didn't like the aggressive insistence of Ducker's questions but i kinda wish someone would ask EtH more about the midfield set up, regardless if its true in this specific match.

Hoping we squeeze a victory. Villa are 3-0 up and we really need to win these games to stay with them

It's not his fault our squad is so poorly balanced we've got a right footed CB at LB and a 19yo full debutant at CF.

we have spent £400m during his tenure - with him having major influence (described as ‘control’ by most reports) in that spending, no?

Fraud, he should not be here in the summer, no plan or idea to how we play. God I hate his football and this united team.

His £85m donkey signing cannot even get a sub appearance. Absolute joker.

If he at least started him as a LB, we can praise his invention but he's got no clue what to do.

Injuries are.
To be fair we are missing Shaw, Martinez and Hojlund. The others are all healthy and playing.

While obviously we’d be better off with them, it doesn’t justify being outplayed at home by Fulham who are missing their 3 best players themselves (Palhinha, Willian and Jimenez).
