Make that 140M with Mount as well.

Great point. I literally (and I literally mean literally) forgot Mount is on our squad. I actually like Mount as a player but we didn't need him and if we need a backup for Bruno we can always plug in Ericken, Hannibal or even Donny.

Hope he enjoys what will be his last Manchester derby.

He’s completely lost the plot. We’re already at the throw enough shit at the wall and see what sticks phase. We’ve seen it with every post Fergie manager and we all know how it ends.

He’ll be back at Ajax by the start of the year.

Yeah, he's lost it, fecking pathetic team selection

Amazing how every one of our recent managers react to pressure the same way, pick the donkeys who got the last one sacked

Lots of negatives and questions need to be asked today in that line up.

It's almost like he is setting up for self destruction.

Don't worry; he'll sub in Varane, Reguilon, Antony, Garnacho, Martial around 75 minute mark when the score is 0-5.

Reading this thread should make sure, not to enter the thread in case of a loss...

As if the lineup would change anything about the pre-conditions of this match. But sure, I guess some thing we just have to field the right eleven to suddenly match none other than City in their own game. I'll stick with him, no matter how this game ends. Not because he is fantastic but because smart clubs don't act on impulsiveness. It is understandable from a fan perspective, no question about it, but overall it only adds up to a destructive environment. And everybody who argues that this environment right now is solely down to ETH doesn't see clearly unfortunately.

I'm still on board with ETH. Every manager knows what's he's getting into when he signs a contact. As I see it, the players are failing the manager, but there is no disputing that the manager set 80m on fire when he demanded that we sign Antony and the lack of a serious RW force seriously undermined our progress as a club.
I don't even blame him for that. ETH is not a scout so when he identifies a player he likes, it's up to the scouting team to say "look we found similar players who may be cheaper or may present more value to us as the player you wanted may be too expensive". Clearly our scouting team is a waste. What I'm blaming him for is the lack of commitment to his so called philosophy. Rashford and Mctominay should not be starting games for man utd no matter what? Commit to your way and if it fails, it fails because it was not meant to be. All I see is cowardice.

Probably because we’ve had 9 million injuries.

Varane is fine. Reguilon is fine. Hannibal and Garnacho have been criminally underused.

There's no excuse to play McTominay in midfield for this many games over Hannibal or Mount. Other than being a manager who doesn't know what he's doing.

After reading last few pages I am certain we have one of the worst, most spoiled fanbase out there. Proper embarrassing stuff.

You'd have to read other fan forums and let us know. I guess between now and then you can find somewhere else to be.

Impulse?? We are 3 months into the season and he has not given us any indication that he knows what he doing. This selection is a culmination of all the poor decisions and indecisions of this season. No positives can come out of this match unless we dominate Mancity and win. If we lose, it's going to kill the confidence of the players and then you have to wonder what players like Mount, Hannibal and Garnacho will be saying within themselves that they can't see a starting spot over the dross we have watched all week. If we win( most probably going to be in smash and grab fashion) it will only serve to strengthen his resolve to keep on playing this bullshit team and this bullshit tactics.

I’ve never understood this strange stick in which to beat our fan base with. Of course we’ve been spoilt and those of us at a certain age, winning leagues and trophies has been all we’ve ever known. What’s embarrassing is having such high standards to adhere to, we just suddenly accept mediocrity because reasons.

Hunch is if you factor in the size of the club, the history in terms of 'heritage' and recent history of underperformance, the amount spent (from club coffers, rather than ownership), amongst other factors...we probably have the most forgiving and least actively adversarial (towards underperforming players, managers, owners in the sense of using protest and civil disobedience) of any club in Europe. But, by all means, survey other forums, take your time...

You think this is good enough? 8th in the table, a negative goal difference, 11 goals scored in 9 games, already on the verge of CL elimination? You think he shouldn’t be getting criticism? You think those are acceptable standards for Manchester United manager?

Sure, lets make the spectrum of acceptable result as narrow as possible. Might as well save yourself the time to watch if this is what your expectation level is. Recruitment is what it is now the season started. As if you could come up with a lineup that will give you domination and positives...

Actually, given the club’s previous rich success, Utd’s fanbase is almost surreally placid and accepting of mediocrity.

It’s far from spoilt, more ‘ruined’.

Agreed, most fans have come to accept mediocrity and finishing top 4 as a massive achievement.

Apathy is the best way. Now I just watch football teams for the best players, its more fun that way.

Abso-fecking-lutely!

This, a thousand times over.

That lineup is unforgivable. He deserves the sack and I never thought I’d say that.
Murtough takes most of the blame surely? He's supposed to be the director of football but he's so clueless in the role that he has to defer to ETH all the time.

100%. Your duty is sporting director is to question the manager on tactics and selection. You can support the manager all you want in public but privately you have to surely insist that he stop self sabotaging himself. Makes me remember Chelsea during the Roman days when the sporting director would walk into the dressing room and override the manager. We don't want that to happen here but surely he has to exert himself.

Genuine question..

How many transfer windows, and how many hundreds of millions does he need to be given in order for us to look somewhat organised and dangerous?

Soft penalty aside, whatever Erik’s gameplan was, it isn’t working. We can’t get near them. He needs to change something.. but he won’t, he is to stubborn.

Tactically inept at times, suicidal pragmatism, and not got the desire or ability to protect the club in the media. He’s got to make changes.

Awful manager. But nothing we didn't already know already. He cleared the deadwood with yet more deadwood to the sum of £400m.

I have defended him so much, but time after time after time he gets his tactics terribly wrong against the top 6 teams.

What is he trying to coach this team to do, we literally have no control and every half decent team sets the pace and tempo of the game every single time.

I honestly think this season might be the worst football we’ve played post-SAF.
